Overview

For undisturbed holidays surrounded by nothing but rich and healthy nature, this villa fits the bill perfectly.

The scenery on arrival is simply fantastic. It's wild, lush and green, with the gentle murmur of the river in the background.

Views sweep down the river and far along the valley. Sunset and sunrise experienced from the terraces are special moments at this totally private, secluded woodland location.

The villa’s high-ceilinged spaciousness complements the expansiveness outdoors. The sense of contact with the outdoor world is there always, light and the vista flooding in through a a huge window. Rustic furnishing, wooden floors and beams lend warmth and character to the house, and there are colourful washes in the decoration.

The large verandah fronting the house and just above the pool area is a favourite spot. It has a broad, well-equipped barbecue area, and beyond that are semi-wild garden areas planted with fruit trees.

The swimming pool, accessed down a few steps, has been built in a postion where it give swimmers and sunbathers a sensational view down the valley. We don't consider it suitable for toddlers, although it has some protection from drops.

Rambling in this area is highly rewarding. The walk down from the house to the river Genal alone is naturally inviting. Down here you can take a river dip and explore around. The pinsapo woods are special: a rare variety of Spanish fir that elsewhere is in decline due to global warming, whereas here it is very much at home and thriving!

There are a couple of very good country restaurants, one a terrific walk away, 4 km upriver at a spot where you can bathe. Generally speaking, the profusion of water in this sunny locality makes it ideal for wild swims and canyoning adventure.

Genalguacil, often visited for its permanent outdoor art exhibition, is a lovely Andalusian village to have nearby. Unlike the more popular Gaucin, for instance, it has very few tourists yet plenty of charm of its own.

During the first two weeks in August (in even years), artists from all over the world come here to make sculptures that then remain on display and are looked after by the village. These represent an attraction in their own right.

Genalguacil offers most of the services you may need, including simple, typical bars that serve meals and now a new restaurant with WiFi.

A drive around these Ronda mountains will take you along the quiet roads that lace together the villages of inland Malaga. Gaucin with its castle is 30 minutes away, and so is the Costa del Sol with sandy beaches at Estepona. And the route to the coast is a pretty drive through the mountains, too.

Ronda is an hour away: definitely worth it if you're interested one of Andalucia's most attractive historic towns.

A longish tarmac road (10 to 15 minutes) from pretty Genalguacil village leads you to the property. You only need a normal car but the drive should be taken reasonably slow where the track steepens.

Phil | July | 2016

It certainly lived up to the description for seclusion and wonderful views. An excellent holidat retreat. The only drawback was it took a long time to get anywhere on winding mountain roads. You had to make sure you were well stocked up because nipping out for milk or bread was a 1 hour round trip."

Charlotte | June | 2016

Everything was perfect, the environment, privacy and view. We also very much appreciated that we could enter the villa without having to wait for somebody. Juan was very nice on the phone. Some small details. Cutlery is very poor when you are with more than 6 persons and some lightbulbs were broken. We also missed an aks to portion the wood and the double sized beds are very small (Dutch people are tall). Never the less we would recommend this villa to our family and friends. Thank you for good services and a fantastic holiday."

Susan | October | 2014

This was the most idyllic place, the views from the pool were amazing, the sound of distant goat bells so atmospheric. It was a deeply relaxing break. The property is remote, which is exactly what we wanted, but come well supplied with food. There are many hair pin bends to reach the location and the track to the property was a bit scary on the first attempt. Everything in the property was designed and made to a high standard. Delightful, would go back tomorrow."

Just to say a thank you, we are back from our stay at RD11. The directions were perfect and the photos of various stages a huge help. We had a fantastic break away, at night we could not see another light in the valley , as the owls hooted and the occasional fox called, hugely relaxing."

We are still trying to acclimatise to cold Britain after a fantastic week in sunny Spain. We really loved the Villa and pool, it was superb. We also particularly enjoyed swimming in the river down beneath the house, where the fish nibble at your legs. There were a couple of English people living down there in tents, looking after a friends land since February and they had seen Terrapins and Otters. Thank you very much for your personal suggestions on things to do. We went to the El Visir restaurant and had an excellent meal and also diverted to refugio Los Reales on the way back from a day in Estapona. Wow what a view! We could see right across to Gibraltar and Africa. The only thing we never saw was an amazing sunset from the pool, as there was not a single cloud in the sky the entire week. It was great to be able to lie outside and look at the stars each night without any light pollution and to be able to pick ripe fruit from the trees. Thanks once again and good luck with the business in the future, we will certainly recommend you to others."

We had the pleasure of staying here (booked through Rustical Travel) and loved the peace and complete privacy it offered. It was completely perfect and we enjoyed very much. The property was lovely and we especially enjoyed the fact that it so peaceful and secluded. We liked the village very much and enjoyed being the only touristd for miles! Many thanks."

James | July | 2014

Fantastic villa for anyone who wants a truly relaxing and remote holiday. It is a wonderful location and if you want total seclusion it is perfect. You will not be disturbed for the duration of the holiday, with the exception of roaming goats and cork harvesters clinging onto the hillside to harvest the cork by hand! If you want to be able to walk to a restaurant this is not the place for you, if however you want to laze by a pool totally undisturbed and not see anything other than beautiful scenery then this is the place to go. We had a great holiday away from it all."
