Overview

This charming cottage perched on the Pontevedra Estuary may be the smallest property on our books but it is also one of the coziest and most magical.

With the ocean right outside your window, you cannot hope to be any closer – you can almost touch the water, and enjoy your morning coffee watching the fishes flitting to and fro.

Sleeping in the heart of this traditional Spanish harbor means that right outside your door you can find fresh fish restaurants, the bustling old quarter, and a lively pace of life. Despite being in the heart of the action, the place still manages to feel unspoiled, even when the pedestrian streets are filled with visitors in high season.

Once upon a time this lovely little home was used as a salt storage and now it is a delightful little spot for ocean lovers to spend a long weekend.

Visitors can choose to climb the steep ladder to sleep in the cozy attic space or can stretch out on the double sofa bed and soak up the view directly onto the salty sea.

The kitchenette makes clever use of saving space offering a fold out dining table and simple facilities for cooking.

Yet, knowing that only a few steps away you can find tantalizing tapas bars and lovely little shops means that you may prefer to dine out.

The historic fishing village of Combarro is a tight squeeze and suffers from lack of parking – fortunately this darling den comes with its own car parking space which makes life very convenient.

We think the best way to enjoy this unique pirate inspired spot is to completely immerse yourself in the authentic feel.

For when you want to venture further afield – the village is a great place for planning adventurous day trips. Boats chug from the harbor to explore the nearby islands or you can slip off the beaten track to taste local cellar wines.

Rustical Travel will send you a guide to help you discover the gems of this area.

Those who adore simple stays with an original twist are sure to feel inspired from sleeping practically on top of the ocean in this pretty pint sized home.

Very nice little house in a lovely small town. Good restaurant next door."

Stephanie | July | 2018

We had a fantastic time and loved the little apartment and the area. We didn't realise the property was in the middle of the main shopping and restaurant street - I guess some may not like that but for us it was fantastic, everything was right on our doorstep. It quietened down by around midnight which is pretty good for Spain in high season. The mornings were wonderfully peaceful with the water lapping at the window. Oh, and the private parking was an added bonus! Thank you! We hope to return again some day."

We loved this delightful little cottage, in the centre of Combarro. The cottage is small, but has everything you could need for a short stay. It’s right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of this popular village, but this just adds to its charm. A perfect base for exploring the Rias Baixas and sampling the local food and wine. We spent hours hanging out of the window, watching the fish and the world go by."

We did enjoy staying here. We loved being able to lean out of the window and watch the world go by above and below the water. The pictures on the website exactly encapsulate the property so there are no surprises. You couldn't be any closer to the bars and restaurants but that does make the property quite noisy in the evening. It didn't bother us at all because we enjoyed the atmosphere but if real peace and quiet at all times is needed it would be a problem. It was dead quiet after 11.30 when the restaurants close. It's a bigger more touristy village than the photographs suggest but no worse for that. There is enough interest in the village to walk around and explore the bars with a sizeable modern marina as well. The place is a good base for exploring the surrounding area. We were on a motorcycle so there were no issues with parking in the village for us. There is a perfectly good supermarket 5 minutes walk away through the old little back streets along with specialist shops. There is no oven which didn't bother us. The two plate halogen hob we found a little problematic and as there were no instructions had to resort to the internet for guidance! Although it states the internet is slow in the property we found that not to be the case. It was faster than our home broadband in the Midlands UK. It will happily stream a film. The fact there is just one window out onto the bay could feel a little claustrophobic but that's nitpicking really but a small terrace or balcony would utterly transform the place! The handover on arrival was a little old lady who lived opposite with a key and on leaving we left the key with a shop keeper next door which felt a bit improvised. We thought it was a charming property and really enjoyed "living" there for a week."

Rustical Update

The property manager informed us that she will leave some instructions at the property on how to use the hob, in case future clients have troubles with it.
