Overview

Looking for an easy cottage in a natural setting where you can combine country and beach holidays? Look no further and read on, as this winsome cottage surrounded by pristine rural nature may well tick all boxes for you.

Set in an inspiring and authentic location off the beaten track, this old and endearing cottage with a climbing vine on the façade is ideal for those looking for a simple holiday home from where to explore both Galician bucolic nature and its stunning coastline of splendid beaches and magnificent cliffs.

The three bed hamlet cottage is surrounded by lush nature, a ten minute walk to basic amenities and a five minute drive to the nearest beach.

Even if no luxuries are to be found in this cute cottage (this is probably the most basic property in our listings), the real treat here is the wonderful setting in the Rias Altas, one of the least explored areas in Galicia, and the endless opportunities for exploring and outings such as nearby traditional fishing villages like pretty Barqueiro town –one of our favourites, with an open swimming pool and restaurants by the harbour–, as well as forests and walks with ocean views, traditional Galician restaurants or historical towns to name a few.

There is something special about the area, the surroundings being perfect for disconnecting and enjoying simple but very fulfilling holidays.

The cottage enjoys an enviable tranquility, with the owners as discreet and very helpful neighbours with independent access to their house. They respect their guests' privacy and they are simply on hand if needed. You will also have a pretty garden for your sole enjoyment: it is quiet and has lots of flowers, which makes for a lovely colourful little spot to sit, relax and take in the sun.

Up on the first floor (be warned, the steps are steep!!) are three agreeable bedrooms which are (as well as the rest of the cottage) tastefully decorated in soft colours, which makes this holiday home pleasant, relaxing and welcoming. It has low ceilings in the two single bedrooms and a low door to the bathroom.

On our visit, we found all beds were provided with canopy netting, a sweet touch adding to the overall pleasing atmosphere. The stairs leading to the rooms on this floor are rather steep, which may make this property unsuitable for anyone with reduced mobility. Those with small children should also bear this in mind, particularly as the only bathroom is downstairs. To ensure peace of mind of the parents, the staircase is gated at both ends and can be locked at the for child safety and the cottage is completely child friendly, with a very safe garden and surrounds as well as some toys available on request: some happy regular guests here are actually families with little ones!

If you are 4 people, remember there is only one bathroom downstairs.

The practical open plan kitchen and dining area offers most basic facilities for self-catering. It is simple, clean, and perfectly adequate, its beamed ceilings and stone walls giving it all a distinct and very pleasant rustic character. The homely and inviting living room provides the ideal spot for cozy nights in and spending time together.

The cottage is within walking distance to basic facilities such as a local bar and a small supermarket, as well as the light railway station. The tremendous country and coastal scenery of the area, the pretty fishing villages and exploring opportunities along with the Rias Altas area cuisine and rural but exciting ways of life –it's easy to come across one of the all year round celebrations such as festivals and fairs going on– can definitely make for a most memorable holiday.

A lovely little cottage in a great location and managed by such a caring and lovely couple. We came to explore Galicia and were enchanted by its beauty. The great facilities at the cottage made us feel home from home. Great booking process too as our stay was not a regular for the property.. but admin was quick and helpful to organise exactly what we asked for. Thanks"

The property was as expected and fully equipped for our stay. The location was peaceful and idyllic but we were still easily accessible to all the surrounding areas of interest and amenities. The hosts, Keith and Ruth were most welcoming and helpful in ensuring we were settled in, and they were on hand if we needed any advice or needs during our stay; a lovely couple."

Our stay here was a delightful rest. We parked the car on arrival and used it once to visit a nearby town on an historic visit. The sea and woodland were easy to walk to and the local villages and back road east to find and walk. The cottage is well equipped and in a good position to muse, read, sleep and wind down. Keith and Ruth are kind hearted genuine folk who offer the cottage with the hope of visitors finding rest and fun. They made us feel completely relaxed about asking for help – we felt more like neighbours than customers."

This was our first trip to Galicia and what an unexpected gem of a location - totally unspoilt by hordes of tourists, and mainly locals enjoying the beaches and restaurants. Our hosts at the cottage, Keith and Ruth, were the kindest and most helpful you can imagine - not too intrusive, but there if you needed help or advice, or just a chat. The cottage is compact and simply appointed, but perfect in terms of kitchen equipment which is frequently where a lot of holiday properties fail. A good kitchen is important because you'll probably get regular delicious, fresh-from-the-garden treats from Keith and Ruth. While there is not much of a view, the outside area is a nie spot for breakfast or a later quiet beer or wine. There is loads to do just a short drive from the cottage and there is lots of info in the cottage about your options. One thing we did that we'd recommend is a walk along the Rio Sor from Ponte Do Porto to Ponte Ullo (PR-G 212). It is a devil to get to but worth it for a bit of an alternative to a beach day. About half way along the walk there is a fabuolous wild swim area at Ponte Colgante, so take swimming costumes. We had two go-to beaches, Praia do Caolin near Vicedo and the really local Praia da Esteiro - you have to be a bit careful about the currents on the latter but it is fine for paddling or surfing. Note some of the esturine beaches have weaver fish so beach shoes are a must. As for food, there are plenty of local places to eat, but our favourite was a pop-up burger bar, Chiringuito "Entre Cabos", near the Mirado de Coitelo. As it was a pop-up it may not be there next summer, but if it is you must go - simply the best burgers EVER. Another good location for food is Viveiro old town - lots of great sea food and a nice place to look around. We also took a couple of days out to visit the Picos de Europa, which was well worth the drive. All-in-all a great place to stay and a beautiful part of the world to explore. Finally, a big thanks to Keith and Ruth - we hope you and of course Winnie the Wonder dog are well and still watching the skies!"

We had a lovely peaceful holiday in comfortable accommodation. Keith was a most kind and thoughtful host; we had some beautiful vegetables from his garden and some groceries on arrival which were most welcome. The coastline within walking distance is stunning and we explored each day, either on foot or on the Feve train which was a great way to travel locally. Nothing was too much trouble for Keith; he picked us up one day when the heat got the better of me out walking and gave us a lift into Ortiguerra to visit the market. All in all, a lovely holiday, many thanks."

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful spot. Possibly the most comfortable bed and most powerful shower we have had in over twenty years of renting holiday homes, I have never slept so well. The owners were always there if you needed them, were friendly and helpful and provided all sorts of extras, veg from the garden, anti mosquito stuff etc. There is an excellent selection of books so no need to pack piles of holiday reading. The perfect spot for a holiday away from the world."

Everything about the holiday was brilliant. Firstly, the directions were good from La Coruna. Then the cottage was perfect when we arrived. Owners Keith and Ruth were very nice.
