Overview

Nestled against the thrilling dramatic backdrop of the Ronda Mountains, this vast estate is an utterly unique place to stay.

Sharing a staggering 54 acres of lush mountain land with a scattering of other holiday cottages with their own pools, this is a dreamy spot for outdoor lovers wanting to stay in an exciting enclave.

Those seeking privacy shouldn’t be put off by the idea of shared space, as with five acres to call your own you don’t need to worry about bumping into the neighbours. The swimming pool is totally private.

The setting is remarkable – rocky bluffs, vultures circling overhead, and wild ibex. The semi wild gardens fit in perfectly with plenty of magical little corners for dreaming the day away.

From the rocky gardens to the cobbled patio, and the terrace framed by mature Mediterranean trees and shrubbery – manicured lawns would almost seem out of place.

The large 12-meter pool is another highlight for those who want to cool down in the high Spanish heat. Energetic guests will also adore using the shared tennis courts.

Children will love the rare opportunity to play imaginatively around the prehistoric remains of a megalith dolmen on site.

The additional one-bed annex included in your stay gifts the choice for even more space.

The house itself may be a little rustic and well lived in, but it has some truly magical features - from the minaret tower boasting breathtaking views to the Arabic touches that remind us of the complex layers of history that come with the Andalusian location.

The main entrance of this cortijo steps straight into the dining room, cutting out any formalities of a reception. We found this layout slightly unusual and didn’t get too excited until we stepped into the living space and caught sight of those spectacular views. The living area has new sofas since 2019.

Some of the bathrooms and bedrooms feel large and roomy; one bathroom in particular felt rather sparse but is certainly preferable to cramped tight spaces. The larger bedrooms have a charming feel – punctuated by high ceilings and lovely views spied from the windows.

Evenings are designed to be special in this setting; groups of 10 or more can even request an extra-large table to sit together and watch the setting sun.

The endless trails and paths that branch out from this spot also invite after dinner walks.

The nearest village is El Gastor; an authentic little spot that boasts bars and restaurants and brings an authentic edge to your Spanish holiday.

Right on your doorstep you will also find the beautifully protected natural park of Grazalema where craggy peaks, deep gorges and gorgeous flora and fauna bloom.

Zahara Lake is also close by; with its white washed village gleaming against the azure waters. Finally, Ronda village is the jewel in the crown of these mountains and only 30-minutes from your front door.

House and pool we're perfect. The house is well equipped and the air-conditioning was great to keep cool at nite so all slept very well. The area was lovely, we did some trails and had dinner out most nights in the beautiful towns dotted around. Would highly recommend this property if you want a relaxing break, Had lots of fun in the swimming pool, it a very good size."

Great villa in a superb location with a management team that are really great. Perfect if you like nature (Wild Ibix come down to drink from the huge pool, birds of prey roost in the cliffs behind and soar over the villa). Amazing views, from the lounge and the tower. People of El Gastor quite friendly but would not recommend driving through village as streets traditional and very narrow."
