Overview

The house is at the end of a quiet street, where Gaucin village ends and the countryside begins, and yet it’s still easy walking distance to facilities.

An amenable atmosphere results from a happy combination of natural, sunny illumination and a tasteful presentation.

There’s also a chlorine-free swimming pool, shared with two other houses, one of which is rarely occupied.

The house is a recent build. Its three floors take advantage of the sloping hillside to provide super views from 600 metres above sea level over rolling countryside down to the Mediterranean, past Gibraltar, and over the sea all the way to Africa and the mountains of Morocco. Not bad for a village house!

Park opposite and enter to a sunny open-plan main room divided into dining, kitchen and living areas. The colour scheme is a soft yellow-and-beige.

The kitchen (it has all you need and we liked the nicely tiled work surface and double sink) conveniently serves the dining table which seats six people, as does the living accommodation with its long L-shaped sofa.

From the sitting area, floor-to-ceiling glass doors slide open to a balcony, although one instinctively moves directly out to the inviting covered terrace for an even better experience of the view from outside.

Four wooden chairs and a table are provided to sit here and gaze out, making for a wonderful breakfast spot. Look down and there’s the swimming pool. In theory, it’s shared with the two neighbouring houses, but one at least is only rarely occupied. Simply bear in mind that’s it’s not private.

The house is modern and user-friendly, except for young children or anyone with restricted mobility, seeing as bedrooms, bathrooms and pool access are downstairs on two lower floors. The stairs aren’t that steep, but accommodation on one floor simply isn’t Gaucin-style – or you wouldn’t have those views...

The feel of the house is fresh and modern, although beamed ceilings are a nod in the direction of traditional local architecture. Bedroom windows have light curtains and blinds.

The rural nature of the accommodation becomes more palpable here, since hillside banks of trees and cacti are directly opposite.

Steps go down to the swimming pool where you have additional communal areas and a pool shower. There are steps down into the water (always nicer than a ladder) and the water is salt-filtered to avoid chlorine-sore eyes.

The house is prepared for holidays all year round. Portable fans in bedrooms and lounge in summer months make way for central heating and a log fire in winter, and the house is fully double-glazed.

The average temperature in summer is 22⁰C, and in winter 12⁰C: it’s no surprise that many northern Europeans have chosen to make a new home in Gaucin.

Shops, café-bars and restaurants (the Gaucin Guide we send before you travel has our recommendations) are a 4-minute walk, while beaches are a 30-minute drive down the road.

At 45 minutes, Ronda is within easy day-trip reach, too, an interesting drive through the mountains.

This was a lovely property in a fantastic location. Views across the mountains were fantastic but only a two minute walk to Tapas bars and restaraunts. The facilities were great . No complaints at all and would definately stay again."

We had a fantastic 2 weeks in Gaucin, the accommodation was lovely with fantastic views. We would recommend you direct people to the Gaucin.com website which under its sport and recreation section lists the 12 or so local walks which have really accurate descriptions easily loaded onto a smartphone for walking. The walk in the rustical information pack is also there ( there is an error in the descriptions in the rustical info). The local restaurants were very welcoming and friendly. The only downside was that for our last 2-3 days new neighbours arrived who were very noisy and didn't respect the property rules regarding the outdoor space/pool area and in particular left a lot of litter around the pool (ice cream wrappers etc). This is clearly a hazard with a shared pool and I think we were just unlucky, fortunately the neighbours for the first 11 days were fine. Thank you"

We had a very enjoyable stay in this property. Views from the terrace and pool of Gibraltar and Africa are wonderful, made better by actually visiting Gibraltar. Lots of bars in Gaucin for a variety of tapas and racionnes. Plenty to see nearby. Highlights were trips to Ronda and some of the other nearby mountain villages. Don't forget to visit the castle in Gaucin, it's worth a visit. The house is well appointed and had everything we needed."

Kerrie | June | 2015

The property had great views to the coast and the Atlas mountains, was well appointed and just a few minutes walk to all the various bars and restaurants in the village. Nice pool, though shared. Noise transfer between adjacent property could be a problem for some. We would consider this property again as we love Gaucin with great local walks on the doorstep. This is the second time booking through RusticalTravel and each time the process has been straight forward, the property is always as described and the information provided is exceptional."

Bethan | May | 2015

Just returned from holiday in Gaucin.RD54. The villa location was superb as was the crystal clear pool which we had exclusive use of. The overall quality of the house was just spoiled a little by the cowebs and dust around the villa together with the number of notices and rules and the propery guide which was full of scruffy sheets of many repeating themselves or with bits crossed out. The highlight of the week for us though was the superb meal cooked for us by Maria which we booked on your recommendation. The fact that she had travelled from Tarifa where she now lives was an added bonus. She does now have a new phone number but email worked fine. The new chef at Granada Divino is also very good as was the food and location of El Atico. Many thanks for ensuring we had a wonderful holiday. The weather was hot, Eagles soared, there were wildflowers in abundance and Rustical Travel's service was first class
