Overview

Location really does matter and here you are in extremely quiet country surroundings less than 20 minutes from Mediterranean beaches, and just 10 minutes from popular Gaucin, which you will see high up in its mountain stronghold, the castle illuminated by night.

We particularly liked the lay-out of the accommodation. It’s all on one floor, uncomplicated, well suited to the unperturbed atmosphere of the place.

It's a a good choice for families with children, not just for the nearby beaches, but also for three parks for children within 40 minutes' drive: Selwo Safari Park, the Water Park at Algeciras, and Marbella Adventure Park with rope bridges and zip wires.

At the centre of the rental property is its large living room, plush and red with comfy sofas and armchairs. In this warm and sunny area of southern Spain it's most natural to keep the french windows open to the terrace, even after sundown, preparing a late supper Andalucia-style, or taking a night swim outside.

The lounge has an overhead fan as do the three bedrooms, which are ranged along a hallway.

To the other side of the lounge is a well-equipped kitchen area and, on a slightly lower level, a dining room where six people can sit together comfortably at a wooden table.

The property continues outside to include plenty of terrace and garden areas.

Although the owners live alongside, they do so most discreetly in their own space and with old-world charm. Even the estate’s animals, two very child-friendly dogs including an old labrador, and a cat, respect your privacy.

The swimming pool and its gardens are for your private and exclusive use. It has Roman steps, a ladder and a diving board. Alongside are paved and lawned areas where you can sit out.

Most impressive is the columned pergola at the end of the pool, where a wooden dining furniture is an open invitation to take meals out-of-doors, yet in shade.

There are lights around the garden and even a pool bar where you might take in turns to serve each other drinks.

If you prefer to stay by the house, there’s also a furnished terrace hugging the front of the villa, where you can roll out an awning if the sun is strong.

Some children’s toys are provided: aside from taking normal precaution around the pool, which is not gated, the property is safe for young children. The only steps inside the house are the three which set the dining room at a slightly lower level. The tended gardens end at hedges and low walls beyond which are no drops, just wild scrubland.

Look up from the gardens and pool and you see Gaucin and its castle, Genalguacil village (recommended for a day out), and the great massif of Mount Crestalina pointing south towards the Mediterranean and its sandy beaches, just 20 minutes drive away. Mobile cover is excellent in case you want to tell anyone about where you are :)

Before you travel, you’ll receive our detailed Gaucin Guide, which contains our tips for tapas bars and restaurants as well as information on walking, horseriding and ideas for day trips.

Close to the villa, on the way to Gaucin, is the shallow River Genal where you can drive down to go paddling.

A major attraction here, of course, is the coast. In just 20 minutes you can be at the Mediterranean Sea, where Manilva and Sabinillas beaches offer sand, swims and bar-restaurants.

Francis and Edi | July | 2018

My wife and family have now stayed at this oasis nestled between the hills and mountain near Gaucin, 5 times in the last three summers. The serenity and peace, the softness and sweet scents, the wonderfully hospitable and caring owners, all add up to call this finca our oasis. Jo and Barry are wonderful, ever helpful, kind and considerate, yet invisible. They have become more that hosts, they are now our friends. We eat al fresco, enjoy the pool, the glorious sun or relax under the dapple shade that the olive trees provide, the breeze and quietness. And then the wonderful bars and incredibly welcoming places to eat in Gaucin. We have tried most of them. We will return, again and again.

This is a really great house, a sublime aesthetic confection of classic Andalusian majada acortijada and traditional English home counties comfort. The outside space is fantastic and the pool is remarkably warm given the elevation. The hosts are charming."

Amanda | August | 2015

We have just had a most wonderful holiday at this property. The villa is in the most stunning position with 360 degree views of the mountains with the white village of gaucin perched on the top. The house is lovely. Very clean and well equipped with everything we needed and beautifully furnished. The outside area around the pool is fantastic with various seating areas and a huge shady pergola under which we enjoyed many meals, not to mention the bar!! Our children loved the pool, diving board and the table tennis table. We spent a lot of time relaxing at the villa but also had some lovely meals out in gaucin and at a fantastic beach bar. We also travelled down to tarifa on the coast which the kids loved - fantastic waves for body boarding and surfing and an amazing whale and dolphin watching trip!! Lastly Barry and Jo (the owners) were so friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat and day trips if we needed them to but other than that we did not see them. You would not know that they live on site. I would definitely recommend this villa and we will return!
