Overview
This centuries-old cottage has been sympathetically restored to keep its character and charm.
The current owners bought this house when it was a rural building – the farmer was retiring – to turn it into a lovely place to stay. Originally there wasn’t even a staircase to the first floor, but now the ladder has been replaced with stairs which lead to the spacious master bedroom suite.
Stone flagged floors with rugs and whitewashed walls are the theme throughout the cottage, as befitting a period dwelling of times gone by.
A wide, shaded terrace runs along the length of the front of the house, the perfect venue for outside dining and relaxation.
Ceramics, pictures and oriental ornaments are used sparingly but tastefully in the living space.
You enter into the dining area of the main living space. The living space is divided into a comfortable living room at one end and, three steps down, to the dining area at the other.
The living room is comfy and cosy. French doors from the living room lead directly to the pool terrace.
All the main rooms in this house are on the ground floor, with the master bedroom suite being the only room on the first floor.
To the rear is the spacious, newly fitted kitchen complete with all mod-cons.
From the dining room, a few steps take you up to a light and cheerful twin bedroom, with an en suite shower room.
This bedroom has the traditionally thick walls of an Andalucian country cottage to keep the interior cool in summer.
Upstairs is the wonderfully spacious master bedroom. The sloping ceilings with exposed beams and wooden floors add an extra helping of delightful rustic charm.
The front terrace leads onto the inviting pool and the terrace at the side of the cottage. Behind the pool area, the rocky landscape rises up, creating a natural backdrop to the south and the far reaching, wide open views. There are so many mature trees and shrubs which provide shelter for birds, you’ll be able to spot a variety of species just relaxing by the pool or lounging on the terrace.
The third bedroom, a comfortable double bedroom with an en suite shower room, is in a separate annexe to the side of the cottage. This annexe opens to a pretty flower garden with roses around the door...a pretty welcome to this bedroom.
The estate owners live on the estate in the main residence and there are two other rental cottages. Each cottage is independent, there is enough space and seclusion for everyone!
All in all, this is another heavenly spot, peaceful, secluded and surrounded by outstanding natural beauty.

YOUR REVIEWS
This beautiful rural property is the perfect holiday getaway for anyone who wants to unplug and relax! The scenery is stunning, the house is rustic and gorgeous and our hosts were incredibly accommodating. Local area is beautiful and there are some great local restaurants in Gaucin, which is a 10 minute drive away."
+ Read moreThe house was in such a fantastic spot with outdoor space perfectly designed for us. The pool was lovely, cleaned every day. We could sit in the sun or shelter under the verandah. Loved listening to the birds. There are a few tricky steps around which did concern us at first but all was well. To sum up, we had a brilliant week in this lovely house."
+ Read moreWonderful and well equipped cottage in a quiet location but only a short drive to the lovely town of Gaucin. The verandah area with a big table and comfy couch is just perfect for long afternoons and evenings enjoying the views across the valley and, on clear days, to the Rock of Gibraltar and the North African coast. The beds are all super comfortable. The owners have done a huge renovation with new roof and concrete first floor so the bedrooms are all super quiet. Even though we didn’t have the best weather, we had a hugely enjoyable stay and can’t recommend the house and friendly owner highly enough. Would return in a heartbeat!"
+ Read moreThis is a lovely place , the kids loved the pool but I loved the spectacular views over the rock of Gibraltar to Africa ! The veranda with sofas was soo relaxing and the house very comfortable . The walks and swimming in the crystal clear waters of the river nearby spectacular. Meals had in Gaucin ( 10 mins in car away ) excellent."
+ Read moreWe really enjoyed our time at La Arailla, which is really well set up for a group of adults who are looking for a quiet escape. The three good sized and lovely bedrooms, all ensuite, provide ample storage space and have fans to keep the air circulating. The outside is great - a good-sized pool, lots of chairs, ample areas to flop and read books or eat as well as a fabulous outlook over the hills to the Rock of Gibraltar and the mountains of Morrocco beyond. The town of Gaucin is very pretty with some nice restaurants, OK shopping and a wonderful castle to climb if you have the energy - the views are spectacular once you are up there. Don't go if any of the party are unsteady on their feet - there are the odd uneven step/stones - or if you are a nervous driver - as the road down from Gaucin is entertainingly tight and windy - but do go if you want somewhere tranquil with fabulous views. Strongly recommended."
+ Read moreA stunning location in a quiet rural area with excellent spacious accommodation. The property is well appointed and the swimming pool maintained on a daily basis . Highly recommended ."
+ Read moreVery high standard of accommodation with a lot of character, set in beautiful gardens with stunning views. If you are looking for a holiday away from it all, just lazing by the pool, then would highly recommend."
+ Read moreThe setting view were absolutely stunning!!! The privacy, no noises apart from goat bells horses. The pool was a very welcome sight used frequently throughout the day. Ali was a gentleman; cleaned the pool every morning, plants watered, hot water for showers etc all carried out without any intrusion whatsoever!!! Character property, rustic very very maintained - very relaxing peaceful"
+ Read moreWonderful views but not suitable for our age group (75) as it is too remote and too many steps in the house. Well equipped kitchen"
