Overview

Of the handful of quality holiday villas that dot the unusually green valley inland from the Costa’s beaches and golf, this is the one that catches your eye.

It’s positioned all alone on the hillside, looking proudly out from the leaves of its wooded grounds. It’s supremely private and has all the qualities for a relaxing vacation in an unspoiled, natural enclave less than half an hour from the sea.

It’s such a large villa for just eight people! The design is expansive, imaginative and practical.

Intelligent use of space, natural light, indoor gardens and particularly stylish fittings are tell-tale signs that it was built by one of the master architects of Andalusian villas, whose feel for human requirements in terms of usability and variety of personal space was central to his vision and design.

The views are simply tremendous.

An automatic security gate draws back and you drive up to gravelled parking within a full hectare of wooded grounds. A little higher up is the garden and pool, but we’re going straight into the house.

A beautiful old front door opens to a raised hallway overviewing a wonderful, high vaulted, wood-beamed living room.

Beyond, through floor-to-ceiling plate glass doors, is a fabulous, secluded, intimate terrace.

The swimming pool is positioned in the gardens on a slight rise, where it seems to be lifted up into the high trees. Green trees, blue sky is what you see from this pool. Comfortable sunbeds are provided, of course, and a welcome, cooling breeze blows across the hilltop.

There are some drops around the private grounds so young children should be closely supervised.

Indoors, you have the choice of air conditioning or leaving the huge window-doors wide open. Most people prefer the natural movement of the sweet country air through the high-ceilinged rooms.

A signal advantage of staying in this area is that you don’t need to drive long distances to reach places of interest.

A short drive away are four satisfyingly different country restaurants that offer a range of very good food. And Casares is a delightful village, with all manner of local shops and a pleasure to stroll around. Its position, perched on a promontory with impressive views, adds to its charms.

The Mediterranean coast is only 20 minutes away and the beaches are sandy and long. Venture further west and within an hour you can be in Tarifa, where beaches take on a completely different, more natural, Atlantic character and conditions are perfect for windsurfing.

Local golf courses among the best in Europe. Nearby Finca Cortesin holds the 2012 World Match Play Championship in May.

The climate allows for a round of golf, or horse riding, easily arranged locally, at any time of the year.

The valley area, home to aquifers, is a green and genuinely rural corner of Malaga province, well suited to walks and countryside exploring.

YOUR REVIEWS

Ian | April | 2019

RD43 We had a really good time and host very helpful. A few observations: The house is designed more for the summer and is generally quite cold. As we visited in April over a cool spell it was great to have fireplace that created a great atmosphere and much needed heat (no central heating). One missing part was a barbecue. Whilst we understand that a fire in the area has resulted in the hosts deciding not to have one, a gas barbecue would result in really being able to use the patio and is a critical part. A previous review suggested to increase the number towels and the quality thereof. Something we would echo. Location is ideal, close to the beach and other places of interest. Would certainly consider visiting again"

Rustical Update

Although there is a barbecue at the property, we have decided not to advertise it as a facility as the high fire risk throughout the year means that it is generally not allowed to use it. As for towels, the owner confirmed that she will buy more new towels.

A great house for our large family with older kids (not so good for younger kids I think, as two of the bedrooms are in an almost separate basement). Comfortable, if a little strangely designed (we called one room the Bond Room...). Kitchen fairly well equipped. But the outside is another story.... So many places to sit in the sun, shade or to star gaze or vulture watch. The swimming pool area is fab , especially the two little ponds. (& accompanying frogs). Was wonderful to sit outside and eat. (Bring mosquito repellent!) The beach is a short 10 minute drive, and lots of villages nearby to explore, Casares, Gaucin, Ronda. Would've been really handy to have some info on what's nearby to do and where to eat. (Venta Victoria was great) maybe a guest book? It's worth going to meet the cats....."

Rustical Update

We always send a document with local information on what to do in the Casares area.

Lovely property and the owner was most helpful to us!"

Liz | June | 2018

Overall we had a lovely holiday at RD43. Rama was very nice and quick to answer any calls or queries. There were some things with which we were disappointed. There were only five towels supplied for six of us the quality of which were very poor. More of the same quality were supplied when we requested. The quality of the bedclothes / pillows / cushions all quite poor. Small things like no salt / pepper / storage to take out a picnic would be very nice touches. We did not realise two of the bedrooms were effectively in one area and the other two were in the basement. We were disappointed we could not BBQ. The local restaurants were more than 3km on a dirt road and most were mainly closed in the evenings in June. One of the kitchen chairs was broken as was one of the deck chairs, light broken over hob, two hob rings not working, no shower curtain downstairs in one of the bathrooms. There was no meter read for the charge for electricity. A welcome folder would be a great addition. On the plus side there were any number of balconies on which you could sit with beautiful scenery. We very much enjoyed the pool. We have rented properties in Spain and other countries a number of times. In this case we felt for what we paid it needed to be better quality - a few small touches and this could be an amazing rental."

Rustical Update

The layout description of bedrooms has now been improved. It is indicated on the property page that there may be restrictions on barbecue use in summer months. Rama, property manager informed us that the hob rings work (but she will keep an eye in case they fail). A shower curtain has been placed in the bathroom downstairs. She has also been informed of the broken deck chair and kitchen chair, and she mentioned to us that there are plenty of towels provided at the villa  (in our next visit to this property we will check this point). Lastly, Rama mentioned that the electricity meter is a bit far from the villa and uphill, so she didn´t think guests would want to go to check (but they are welcome to do so).
