Overview

At one end of the province of Granada, next to the natural area of the Sierra de Cazorla and bordering the Andalusian provinces of Almeria and Jaen as well as Murcia and Albacete, we find the protected areas of the Sierra Sagra with a maximum altitude (and more than respectable) of 2,400 meters high. This is a natural enclave with its own identity, a region of mixed cultures.

In this natural unspoilt region, we can find several huge mountain farms, where wildlife abounds. This is one of them, with 700 hectares. At one end we have the property sitters farmhouse and 5 minutes away, in a fenced area, the area of the mill that has been restored to offer this special accommodation. La Puebla de Don Fadrique with all its services is 15 minutes away, so its isolation is relative and its access is easy.

The estate is hardly a hunting resource nowadays, so roe deer, fallow deer, deer and mouflon abound and being able to see them is certainly a significant part of the experience offered by this property.

Water flows in front of the lodge all year round, the small river that flows just in front of us, providing a pleasant murmur, accompanied us during our visit and we found it very relaxing. According to the owners, with its approximately 200 litres per second, water is never lacking in this enclave of Granada. It is precisely this permanent flow that allowed the mill to function when it was not being used as accommodation, back in the 1920s.

The outside environment around the accommodation with several terraces to sit and disconnect have each and every one of them a magical character. We are surrounded by immense walnut and cedar trees, this is a forest estate of great arboreal variety, with certain botanical exoticisms.

One of the main attractions to book this accommodation is undoubtedly the charm of the location, the nature that surrounds it and its privacy; but undoubtedly other of its exclusive elements are its Arab baths, the hammam (indoor heated pool). The hammam is complemented by the Finnish sauna and although this property is not included in our luxury selection, these elements give it its own standards

The other element next to the hammam pool that invited us to consider this property in our portfolio was the large main lounge, certainly the star of the house next to the Arabian baths. Although it is a bit far from the kitchen which is on the first floor, both the barbecue and the wood oven are closer at hand from this room. Perhaps this house is ideal to hire a catering service or help service for the preparation of a barbecue or wood oven, so do not hesitate to consult us about this.

If something also seduced us at the time of inviting our clients to book this accommodation was the true eco sustainability that we seem to find here. We are certainly not used to offering on our website a property with heated pool at water temperatures reaching 40 degrees without the need for electricity. This is a real achievement thanks to a complex and revolutionary system of biomass and the giant availability of this fuel on the farm.

We would have liked to complement these excellent indoor facilities with an outdoor swimming pool. To alleviate this detail, the owners offered in the summer of 2022 a demountable pool of about 5 meters in diameter that seemed to us a good option to refresh in the hottest months. The location of this removable pool is in a beautiful garden, so we thought it was a great way to cool off.

Although we are in the southeast of Spain, where the heat sets in comfortably in the summer months, the altitude of this finca and the breezy regime of its mountain ranges make it an ideal option to avoid the onslaught of the sweltering heat. Here this accommodation ticks another box, that of the desirable condition for holidays in Andalusia in summer: -good weather, but not so hot.

The double beds we found in all the rooms and the type of accommodation invited us at first to think that this was an ideal house for adults, although we think that families can also enjoy this fabulous place immensely.

The region will undoubtedly surprise us, so beautiful, so unknown and with so much to offer. We don't want to miss any of the nearby mountain restaurants, specializing in local produce and game and in the surroundings.

Welcome to the amazing sport of Sierra Sagra in Granada!

Paula | October | 2023

Stunning. Within an estate surrounded by nature, where you can see deer passing by, you'll find this SPECTACULAR house in every way: the dimensions, the decoration, the exteriors, the facilities (with an incredible climate-controlled hammam where you feel like in an Arabian spa)... Every detail, from the tableware (very complete and each piece more beautiful than the last), the ready-to-use fireplaces and the wood-burning oven, the rooms... you can tell it's taken care of and worked on with care and enthusiasm. The same is reflected in the owners and all the staff; they are charming and available at all times. The only downside was having to leave. We'll be back.
