Overview

We found this restored mill in Melegis, one of the villages in the attractive Lecrin Valley. This region is well known for its quality lemons and oranges as well as for having a privileged position between the magical city of Granada and the exotic Tropical Coast. It is also at the foot of the west side of the Sierra Nevada massif, snow-capped for most of the year.

This original village mill is now offered as a holiday villa in this semi-tropical environment.

Although it certainly is a property with a wow factor when you come in through an old wooden door, it is not a typical luxury villa but a rustic, charming home with plenty of unique features.

We found the Moorish and Spanish decorations very attractive and appealing. It really does feel like you are transported back to the time of Ali Baba and his treasures!

The downstairs area is the heart of the house; the living area has a cosy feel with high ceilings and built-in seating full of cushions in true Moroccan style. The kitchen is next to the furnished patio, the dining room also has high ceilings, and the original mill features are quite stunning.

The dining table is an amazing huge round millstone, lovely for familiar, gregarious and intimate meals with your loved ones!

The double bedrooms are so cosy with beautiful exotic touches; you could feel as if you are sleeping in a little oriental palace! We regarded the larger double-bedded bedroom on the ground floor, with its chandeliers and direct access to the patio/pool area, as the master bedroom.

The upstairs double-bedded room is bright and enchanting! It also has access to the patio, leading to an attractively furnished terrace where you could imagine Aladdin and Princess Jasmin to be resting!

The storage space in the bedrooms comprises of rustic built-in units, and there are portable fans but not A/C. The two bathrooms are separate from the bedrooms.

Although we didn't have the chance to be at this property during the night-time, we can easily imagine the summer nights on this patio by the pool, cooking barbecues, having drinks and sitting around the mosaic dining table surrounded by Moroccan lamps; it surely is a treat!

As the pool is so easily accessible and on account of the steps, you would need to be very vigilant with small children.

Although Melegis only has one bar/restaurant, this is one of the best-established local places to eat out and is just a short walk away. Other restaurants and supermarkets are within close driving distance.

This holiday villa could be the perfect base for you, being 30 minutes from both the beach and the ancient, vibrant city of Granada. You will also love the white-washed Moorish villages of Las Alpujarras, also just a 30-minute drive. This is a superb location!

YOUR REVIEWS

Alan | September | 2023

Our time at this villa was truly delightful. Two families with children, and the villa provided ample space and seating for all of us to spread out comfortably. The pool was generously sized, and the villa, including the kitchen, was well-equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. The decor was not only fantastic but also intriguing. The location proved to be excellent, with a 30-minute drive to either the beach or Granada, offering a variety of activities in between. A charming restaurant was conveniently just a 5-minute walk away, and a large supermarket was reachable within 10-15 minutes. We would undoubtedly choose to stay there again, although there is still so much of the world left for us to explore!
