Overview

Six hundred years ago, there was a mosque in Bubion, not a church, and the Moors were building their finest residences in the lower reaches of the Berber village.

One of them, now finely restored is offered for holiday lets. This delightfully rustic house has become popular with more and more guests who have also fallen for the sparsely populated mountain world and its dramatic scenery.

The house is packed with character and retains the thick-walled open spaces of the original ancient dwelling. The furnishing has been chosen to please so that every room becomes a desirable place to be. There are ancient chestnut beams and terracotta tiled floors.

As for the views, they are quite fabulous down the great Poqueira gorge and to sunsets on the distant Mediterranean. You can enjoy these from the house itself, from its lovely gardens and secluded terraces. A trickle of water can be heard from the stream running below the house, but that’s about all in this very tranquil spot.

The house is built on two floors. On the ground floor as you come in, there is a reception open-plan with a dining room with open fireplace and kitchen. There a bathroom here also. The two bedrooms (one twin, one double) are upstairs, where they share an attractive living room with south-facing, view-filled windows and access to a terrace that can provide truly romantic moments.

The house’s location on the edge of Bubión gives it the sense of being undivided from the countryside. It is just down from the church and square and yet the semi-cultivated gorge stretches out before the house within an unspoiled mountainscape.

The gardens have shade courtesy of old walnut trees, and they are balanced by a terrace a few steps down from the house: an intimate spot accompanied by trees, bushes, flowers and an old fig.

Don´t expect TV or microwave but quality Egyptian cotton in bed linen. Although, in some ways, the property may seem too rustic, we felt this was part of the charm of this magical home.

This is an excellent base for those who want to immerse themselves in the history of this unusual and captivating region of Spain. And If you love trekking, you don’t have to go far to find excellent options. The GR7, the main path that passes through the entire Alpujarras, passes opposite the house.

If you are fond of mountain life and nature, photography or painting, or simply admiring amazing sunsets, or reading and relaxing, this rustic rental cottage could be just the place for your Andalucia holiday.

My husband and I loved Bubion. We thought that the village and the house were very authentic. The kitchen facilities are basic, but the house is cosy, and we slept very well every night. We were looking to unwind, relax, write, and read, which was ideal for our purpose. We recommend Lo Nuestro restaurant for a romantic meal.

Charming, romantic fairytale cottage. Every room is special. We visited in early Summer, and the temperature was fine inside despite the heat. It's not luxurious, but we found it comfortable and gorgeous. We would be happy to return just for the view itself!

We had a short but enjoyable getaway. The location is excellent, in a very quiet area of the village of Bubion, allowing us to disconnect and enjoy stunning views from the terrace. The interior of the house is simple but has everything we needed for a pleasant stay. As hiking enthusiasts, we thoroughly enjoyed the different routes through the Alpujarra. The booking process was very easy.

I had visited the same house before, in 2010. I love it! Your website rental process was easier this time. The Keyholder was extremely pleasant helpful. The house doors are a little stiff to open /lock due to wood swelling. Other than that it was simply great. Many thanks to all I will be back! Sarah"

Wonderful house and gardens, stunning location for walks, immersing yourself in nature, great local places to have tapas or a meal. We love this place, the people and the wider area. Highly recommend!"

We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely cottage. There are lots of walks here that are all either up or down but well worth the effort. The cottage itself is simple but beautiful, the upstairs sitting room is a joy with light and great views and the sound of running water everywhere. Bubion is a very steeply hilly village , quiet and interesting, the museum is well worth a visit. The main restaurant/bar on the road through the village is very good and the local shops have enough for self catering. We will be returning."

* We had an excellent holiday in Bulbión, and found that La Casa del Músico met all our needs. * Everything in the house and in the village was as described in your web-based ‘brochure’. - We greatly appreciated the bonus of supplies left there; it was really helpful to have olive oil, coffee, sugar, and condiments that we wouldn't have wanted to buy just for a week. - We were enthusiastic spectators of the daily watering of the garden. Two more points for you: 1. There appear to be at least two places in Bulbión with WiFi: the Casa de la Cultura towards the top of the village, and Casa Ángel further down on the left. Some locals don’t seem to know that either! 2. We feel that you should draw more attention to the steep climb up to the village. We are pretty fit and in good health, but others could find the journey rather daunting, particularly as there is realistically nowhere to sit down for a rest."

Gorgeous, comfortable house. Peaceful. The pretty garden was a real bonus as was having the living room on the 2nd floor to enjoy the sun and lovely views. Bubion is a wonderful village and the locals were all kind, welcoming and helpful. Easy to walk to the villages either side - if you can cope with the gradient! Simple cheap to get to Bubion from Granada bus station - it just takes time but that's part of the adventure. Locally you can hitch a lift or go to Tiede restaurant offer to pay someone to take you - such as when you need a lift to the start of a walk in the beautiful Sierra Nevada park. Stacion 4 served quality food. Well stocked little supermarket with everything you could need. Rustical Travel provide a superb service."

Jon | October | 2016

We loved the property and garden had a sun drenched 10 days walking from village to village and up into the hills. We were met and taken to the house and shown around and were able to go to the shops and cook local food and eat well all the time. Property was very comfortable and ideal for a family, our 2 young (3/7) children loved every day of it. Well equipped and though the light bulbs blew up every now and again otherwise trouble free. Walking from the door and an open air gym and football pitch in the village suited us well but mountain air, sunny days and sunsets over the hills the memories. Find us something for next year please."

Sandra | October | 2016

The cottage is really lovely, in a peaceful spot at the edge of the village. Photos on the website show the cottage nicely, though it is bigger than you expect and well appointed. The gardens are really nice, with one of the irrigation channels running through it. The cottage is right next to amazing trails GR7, and GR240 close by. Lots of walks to the local villages, and on the smaller less used trails lots of chance to explore and get lost! Though you can always find your way back. Village retains it's traditional character, good places to eat in this village and nearby too; and plenty (too much) to do. 4th time in the area, 2nd time with Rustical Travel, we love it, and would definitely recommend the cottage, company and area to anyone."

Alison | May | 2016

Beautiful location and lovely traditional property. Tricky to get to down a very steep pedestrian road. This added to the charm but not for anyone with mobility issues! The garden was gorgeous and the house is close to some great walking routes. There are a few nice bars and places to eat in the village and nearby villages. We stayed here with 4 adults-the sleeping arrangements were fine but it would have been good to have more garden furniture. Highly recommended overall."

Stephen | August | 2015

Fantastic holiday, thank you. The instructions were excellent and the reception was really good and accommodating due to our delay (road closed). The cottage was lovely and so comfortable and homely, we felt immediately relaxed. The nights were very hot and without air conditioning it took a while to acclimatize and get to sleep. This was a minor inconvenience though and the location more than made up for any discomfort. It might be worth noting the balcony had no safety rail and the steep steps leading up to the accommodation mean it is probably not suitable for people with young children, but wonderful for most others. A hire car is a must though, as without it you would be quite isolated and trapped."
