Overview

The property is an organic group of three interrelated buildings. With no neighbours and plenty of spots to relax and enjoy the majestic views of the Sierra Nevada in complete privacy, staying here is akin to living in one’s very own small settlement. Vistas range from the deep valley below up to Mulhacen, the highest mountain in mainland Spain.

The area known as Padre Eterno lies at the threshold between the Low and High Alpujarras, where altitude and climate permit an outdoor lifestyle and a variety of plant life that you will not find anywhere else in the region.

Here it includes a unique and extravagant rose garden.

Where travellers once used to pause for refreshment as they walked down to Orgiva, imagination and the running waters of an irrigation channel have created a marvellous holiday location.

The rose-covered entrance gate leads you through a wide green lawn to the accommodation and the main farmhouse, which is serene and rustic.

The simple, agreeable furnishings are suited to the natural scene in which the old building is set.

The bedrooms are on the upper floor. They share a bathroom and there's another one accessed from outside downstairs.

The Casita house provides the rest of the sleeping accommodation. It's pleasant, adequate and bright. There is an unpretentious sitting room as you come in and two bedrooms. The rooms are simple and ceilings are lower than average, but one of the double is signally superior to the other, mainly on account of the spectacular views from the balcony.

The kitchen and dining room are in an independent building directly opposite the main house. It’s newly built with plenty of natural light and very well equipped, having all you need to enjoy cooking meals. A large table allows up to nine people to sit or dine together very sociably, with windows all round and a terrace just below with breathtaking views. One of the beauties of this place is the choice of spots to sit out and eat.

A few steps up through a rockery is the swimming pool. It’s a good size and there are tremendous views all around from the pool terrace, as well as a soft green lawn. It's tranquil and intimate.

The unique location that embraces the dual climates of the High and Low Alpujarras has provided the opportunity to plant and develop gorgeous botanical gardens. Nature lovers or garden enthusiasts will find expectations surpassed. From the moment one passes the main gate, and its large well-maintained lawn, mature and colourful plants abound, accentuated by the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada, the second highest range of European mountains after the Alps. It is quite something to enjoy warm weather while viewing snowy peaks.

The best of the explorations from the cottage is the one closest at hand. A short path leads from the kitchen terrace to the wooded acequia (a Moorish irrigation channel), which you follow along garden terraces planted with an astonishing variety of more than 700 different roses and interesting plant species, such as a baby lemon tree. It’s a beautiful walk.

The property is reached down a well-maintained dirt track and the classic white villages of the high Alpujarra are just around the corner, starting with Pampaneira (4 km), then Bubion and Capileira.

Close by up a drivable road are the Buddhist centre of O Selin and pine forests.

Granada is less than an hour away and day trips to the seaside on the Costa Tropical are also popular.

The property is unique, we all loved our stay in this beautiful area. It would have been even better if the separate bedrooms had air conditioning."

This property provides extensive and comfortable accommodation in a peaceful and fabulous setting with views all around. We stayed during very hot weather, but there always seemed to be a breeze, and of course we were able to cool off in the pool. There is air conditioning in the main building, which kept us cool at night. Inside, the kitchen is well equipped, and the furnishings very comfortable. Outside there are numerous places to sit, and there was always somewhere to find some shade. Access is along quite a rough and narrow track, which may be worth bearing in mind if you have a wide vehicle."

What an absolutely superb place. I honestly can’t recommend the property highly enough. It’s impossible to articulate just how stunning the location is, the photographs give you a good idea but when you travel up the dusty track to get to the property you realise just how beautiful it really is. We were 2 families comprising 2 teenage girls and 9 11 year old boys. The property suited all our needs perfectly. The property is very well stocked - really everything you might want for a family holiday. Fantastic kitchen, the BBQ was excellent, great bathrooms (always hot water available) and despite the rural location the wifi was brilliant which was a nice surprise especially for the teenagers in our group! Before arriving I worried whether the lack of air con in the bedrooms might be a problem however it really wasn’t an issue despite being 30 + degrees for the entire 2 weeks we stayed. There are ample fans and because the property has shutters you are able to keep the main house and casita nice and airy. The property and gardens are very well maintained and full of charm. The beds were all extremely comfortable along with the numerous seating areas. The pool is a great size. I also want to say how easy the booking process was with Rustical. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Rustical again. In particular I want to mention Eloisa who was our host. She was an absolute joy when meeting her to collect the keys. She introduced us to the property and gave us such a warm and informative introduction to the house and local area. Unfortunately one of our party left their wallet but Eloisa found it and returned it very promptly which we were so grateful for. Communication with Eloisa throughout the whole process was fantastic. She is a star. The only advisory issue I would flag up is that the property has a lot of low doorways! Sounds a silly thing to mention but the folk over 6ft in our group had a lot of banged heads! Also there are no plastic glasses which would be a great idea to have so that they could be used around the pool. I think it’s fair to say when those two comments are literally the only advisory notes I could think of, we would all be delighted to return. What a holiday!"
