Overview

A driveway through chestnut trees sweeps round to reveal this excellent, L-shaped villa. The property covers 25 acres of grounds and looks out across the fertile valley of Fuente del Rey: what one client called "heart-stopping views".

The grounds are immaculately kept and a stone-walled garden leads down to a sparkling blue swimming pool.

There are few holiday rental properties that live up to such promise. The villa is an interior designer’s dream where space, natural light and tastefully balanced colours create an overall sensation of exquisiteness.

In classic Andalusian style, the main room has been left open-plan, an archway dividing off a very comfortable lounge from the dining area and kitchen. Ceilings are high-beamed and sunlight filters through from the outside to present the nicely chosen furniture and decoration in what feels like a freshly laundered atmosphere.

Four lovely bedrooms are ranged along the other wing of the house. Bathrooms are indulgently mosaic-tiled and attractive; spacious bedrooms have generous built-in wardrobes.

On the north side of the house, an independent apartment has been built into the high stone wall. It has a sitting area, shower room and kitchen. The main laundry room is located alongside here.

Although we may see another cottage below the pool area, this casita belongs to the estate and remains closed while your are on holidays.

Whether indoors or out, you will find standards and style here quite luxurious.

The gardens and lawn are carefully tended and guide you down to a truly marvellous, stepped swimming pool. It's salt-filtered and lined with deep blue tiles. With steps leading into the water and night-lighting, dips are inviting at all hours. All about are cheerful colours of bougainvillea and scents of jasmine, rosemary and thyme.

The location is a very tranquil spot of the Sierra de Aracena, yet only 15 to 20 minutes’ walk from Aracena market town. Perhaps reaching by foot the main square at the heart of this town would take a little longer.

You can enjoy any number of walks in the area by simply following the old public footpaths that link one village to another. The villa has books and maps to guide you. Nearby Aracena is thoroughly Spanish in having some 60 bars to serve a population 7,500. Restaurants, shopping and banks are all here, not forgetting the village’s famous and extraordinary underground cave network.

Tennis and golf are available locally and day-trips include the Rio Tinto mines (complete with train ride), the former mosque in Almonaster, and once-Roman Merida.

The calendar of fiestas in Aracena is one of the busiest in Andalucia: don’t be surprised if your stay coincides with some celebration or other!

Adam | July | 2023

Very enjoyable and peaceful family and friend stay, should mention a few hiccups for your notice. No one to receive us or advise on villa access on arrival, no hot water until Monday when engineer arrived to fix the heating system, could not use the pool table as it is located in a confined location, 20 minute walk to town unpleasant due to many car users on track lifting clouds of dust. But we did enjoy our stay and Mariposa xx."

Superb genuine family home property, excellent quality and room to breath. Kitchen , courtyard, pool, views and bedrooms all excellent. Communication with the owner was spot on, grace and generosity personified! We had an impromptu visit by 5 marauding piglets from neighbouring property which were delightful and a highlight of first week along with the vuelta and Local parade/ celebration joyous parts of week 2. As is always the case, walk into town on a evening turned from a slight chore on day one into a relaxing part of the day by the end, bring comfy shoes and you will be fine. The town itself is definitely worth it with lots of choice, authenticity and quality. Great holiday for relaxing and imagining living a life on the dehesa"

We have a fantastic week. I do have a complaint, though - I think your website definitely undersold the property!! But then again, I suppose we were extra impressed when we got there! Thank you for the advice which helped us to choose this ideal of properties for our needs. I will certainly recommend you to friends and look forward to booking again."
