Overview

This holiday home has been featured in the local paper for being the most positively evaluated by clients in Asturias. It goes to show how important it is that owners take such good care of both house and guests, although the location between the Picos de Europa and Asturias beaches (just 15 minutes from both) is what clinches it.

While enjoying due privacy and independence, it benefits from lying within the boundaries of a working farm: you have the proprietors on hand and farm produce on the doorstep. The loudest noise comes from the cow bells. The owners, Jose and Mari-Paz are kind hosts and contagiously enthusiastic about their area, keen to help guests who want to discover the very best of the picturesque Asturias region. It is a most relaxing location with nature and impressive views all around.

The area offers many attractive options, from mountains to spectacular beaches, from enchanting hamlets to pretty towns, mysterious palaces, medieval towers, caves, rivers, Roman paths, forests or high alpine rocky peaks: all nearby for you to explore. Llanes fishing village, a special Asturias destination, is just a few minutes away.

The house itself has been assiduously restored with plenty of  thick old chestnut beams ceilings and floors and an original handcrafted wooden balcony. The decoration is simple, but attention has been paid to detail. The house is neat and inviting, well presented with colourful flower beds and plants.

On the ground floor is a country kitchen and open-plan main room, with a working old-fashioned range: a perfect scenario for a comfortable, rural lifestyle. Just outside, under the ancient hórreo (pillared grain store), an illuminated barbecue area has been improvised.

Upstairs, a hall gives onto the restored wooden terrace, the broad balcony typical of traditional villas of this kind. It’s an excellent spot for reading a book or simply sitting out admiring the view. It is quite private, not overlooked.

It's difficult to imagine that you can be in such beautiful green countryside and yet have pretty beaches only 15 minutes away.

If you are interested in being initiated into the art and science of birdwatching, a short and particularly bird-rich guided route is often available in the Springtime.

There are also very good options for eating out nearby, which you will find described in detail in the local guide we send you before you travel.

MARY | July | 2022

We loved the location of this home. It was a short drive to the coast and the mountains! The property was beautiful- gorgeous flowers everywhere! The host was super helpful answering questions about the surrounding area and also respectful of privacy. The only thing that I think could be better is the main living area could use a bit more light. I would stay at this home again!"

Jose and Marie are the most wonderful hosts from the moment you arrive until you leave, you are treated with kindness. The enormous cake that greets you, then the never ending supply of eggs, fruits and nuts are incredible. The garden is a wonderful place to relax and the cottage is ideal. Peace and quiet abound. The scenery both from the cottage and in the area is spectacular. Plenty to see and do and some brilliant walks. Plenty of birds and some new butterflies for us. All in all a fantastic holiday. The hospitality was outstanding. Rustical Travel provides an excellent service and we were extremely impressed by the professionalism shown and the way that they kept us up to date with everything we needed for our holiday."

We loved our stay in Northern Spain. This is a property with a wonderfully peaceful location with just the sound of cow bells and the occasional bird of prey. We loved sitting and eating outside and reading on the balcony. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and so hard working in the way they maintain the gardens and setting.Great location for both beaches and mountains.Rustic interior with well equipped kitchen. Good showers with only minor detail being a double bed upstairs was a little short but certainly comfortable. We would stay here again!"

We stayed at Maria-Paz's very nice property in Debodes, Asturias during June, it was just perfect for us! The view from the relaxing veranda (when the clouds/mist finally moved on) were stunning. We had 3 days of clear skies and the huge number of hydrangeas in Marie-Paz's garden looked even more stunning - she takes such great care and pride in her property with the support of her very nice and friendly husband. The cottage itself is excellent for up to 6 persons with 3 double rooms. The kitchen/living area is comfortable and very well supplied. The house is kept to be a home-from-home and felt like a home as soon as we arrived, we were very sad to leave at the end but will definitely return. And, we were presented with fresh eggs, home-made jam, and a huge home-made cake which lasted all week. There are some lovely local walks, quiet roads, and the Picos and local beaches are only 15-30 mins away. All in all a great location. We would like too thank Marie-Paz and her husband and also Rustical travel (Carlos Garcia) who were an excellent agent."

Dear Rustical Travel This was our first time to northern Spain for my wife and I and it lived up to all expectations and beyond. The cottage location is idyllic with views over the mountains to the front that can be seen from the balcony and from the seating area below the grain store. A glass of wine is all you need, you dont even need a book, the local cows, goats and sparrows will keep you entertained. The only sounds you will hear will be those of the cow bells ( I had no idea we would be listiening to these in Spain) and the sparrows with complete silence at night. This is a totally relaxing place to be. The cottage is well equipped with all you need for self catering and is almost a home from home without the worries of work or day to day life. I cannot recommend it enough as a place to stay. The onyl negative was a failing on our part and that was our limited understanding of Spanish, if only we could have told the owners exactly what we thought. The owners are delightful and only to eager to help providing cake, marmalade, eggs and walnuts (much better than UK ones). We will be taking Spanish lessons and coming back, this area is stunning and we know we only touched the surface in 1 week. You will need a car but everything is within easy reach, no more than 10-15 minutes drive to the nearest local supermarket and all the lovely fresh fruit and veg that you would die for in the UK with lovely wine starting at 1 Euro if you are willing to give it a try (we opted for 3 Euros and were astounded at the quality). Dont be afraid of driving this is rural Spain and we had not issues. I would, however, advise valium on the mountain road from De Bodes across to Llanes but would recommend you try it for the views if only at 20km/h (maximum). I cannot thank you enough for making this property available Steve and Fiona"

Katy | August | 2017

What a lovely warm welcome we received from Rustical Travel and from the property owner, Mari Paz. She made us a cake and left us with home made jam and fresh eggs from her chickens. Rustical Travel provided us with really detailed advice about where to go and what to do. The location is stunning, but also really close to fantastic beaches. The mountains are definitely rustic and rural - we saw a calf being born one day, much to the excitement of my children. The property is bright with well tended flowers. It's very traditional in style, nice and cool on a hot day, a little bit dark and damp-feeling on a wet one, but Mari Paz showed us how to work the heating if required. All in all, I thoroughly recommend this place for a peaceful getaway where all you'll hear is the distant tinkle of cow bells."

We loved our stay here! It was so peaceful and tranquil, it was one of the most relaxing holidays we have had. The melodic cow bells were a delightful background to this picturesque setting. Cottage was really well appointed, we wanted for nothing. The local area provided plenty of interest and the scenery was breathtaking. We found plenty to see and do. Would highly recommend this property to any prospective holidaymakers!"

We had a truly wonderful holiday in a great cottage, ideally located between the coast and the mountains. We found Rustical to be very efficient in dealing with our booking and the information provided in advance was extremely useful. The cottage owner was very friendly and the massive cake, eggs and jam that they left for us as a welcome gift were much appreciated. The bread delivery service each morning was also very helpful if you wanted to organise a picnic. A really beautiful part of the world and overall a really great and memorable holiday. Thank you."

AT15 - Beautiful cottage in a lovely area, surrounded by gorgeous flowers and wonderful scenery. Open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area is dark, with the lovely typical Spanish dark wood ceilings. Three good sized bedrooms and two bathrooms. Peaceful. A very warm welcome from Mari, with home baked cake, homemade jam and a bowl full of fresh eggs. Fresh bread provided every day, if you leave your order out - cloth sleeve with money inside. Everything you need is in the house. You do need a car to travel to the Picos and attractions, which are not far away. Would definitely recommend this place to stay - so idyllic. If I come to the Picos de Europa area again, I would definitely choose this property as my base. Best restaurant is la Roxin and they do have an English menu. I will definitely use Rustical Travel again for booking accommodation, because you have lovely properties and you are so helpful."

This was a lovely cottage located on a hillside with amazing views. Our hosts, Marie and Jose were fantastic, friendly and always happy to help. They made the holiday special and we were sorry to leave. The area is very rural but only a short drive from supermarkets and a petrol station. From the cottage we did a number of local walks without having to use the car and beautiful beaches and the Cares Gorge were short drives away. The cottage really does look like the pictures on the website with the gardens and lawns well kept. This was a lovely place to start our holiday as it was an easy drive from Santander on the spectacular coastal motorway. Rustical Travel were also one of the most helpful companies that we have ever booked with and the quality of the documentation supplied in advance (by email) meant that we had good travel directions, ideas of things to do and a good long list of attractions. They even arranged for our hosts to buy in a few groceries to stock the fridge before we arrived meaning that we didn't have any shopping to do when we first arrived in Spain. Both our hosts and Rustical Travel helped make this a wonderful and memorable holiday. Thank you to everyone who helped us."

This was a wonderful cottage full of traditional character. The owners kept the gardens beautifully and we enjoyed eating outside under the old grain loft . We found many sandy coves within easy reach with the help of the info provided. Some beaches provided surfing opportunities for our sons . We loved hiking the canyons of the Picos National Park and saw many eagles and vultures. Like any mountain area the weather is changeable so visitors need to be prepared to be hot and to get rained on ..sometimes on the same day. We were very content with the cottage , the lovely views from it and the surrounding countryside , coast and seaside towns . There is far more to explore in Asturias than we had time for so we hope to return . Thank you for a lovely holiday."

We had a fantastic holiday in Asturias and absolutely fell in love with our wonderful well-equipped cottage. I will never forget the serenity that washed over us, sitting on the beautiful balcony, drink in hand listening to the cow bells tinkling in the distance. We thoroughly enjoyed this holiday. Mari and Jose made us feel very welcome. Mari had made delicious cake and marmalade for our arrival and we were also given eggs. We were able to have baguettes delivered every morning, by placing a euro in the bread bag and hanging it on the door. The cottage is very quaint and in keeping with the local surroundings. My one very slight criticism is that I found slight 'roll together' on the double bed, but we slept well anyway because we were so active. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful and restful, close to the Picos mountains and the sea. Great for keen walkers. We saw lots of wildlife, including my first sighting of Golden eagles, which was amazing. The Jurassic coast is close by, where dinosaur footprints are visible on the shoreline. We were sorry to leave this wonderful place and I would definitely go back there."

I am not usually disposed to writing reviews however I feel obliged to do so after spending our with Jose and Mari at their wonderful house in the Asturian countryside. They were quite simply lovely hosts who could not do enough for us. The house itself is delightful. The outdoor space is decorated with a wide variety of plants which were in bloom and added wonderful colour to the impressive setting. Other clients had previously mentioned the cakes, jam, eggs & cider and we too were treated to these home made and produced products which we all thoroughly enjoyed. At the house there was an abundance of birds that visited, in particular a couple of woodpeckers with a penchant for walnuts. The sound of cow bells, cockerels and bird song was so relaxing. The sights from coast to mountains were impressive and we were all taken with the scenery, gastronomy & history of the region.

Hi All Delighted to give feed back. Marie-Paz was as last year a delight, always on hand to help even though we do not share a language! Many thanks Graham"

This stunning property was in an equally stunning setting between the mountains and the sea; well placed for long walks in the Picos mountains and leisurely days on the coast. We were very warmly welcomed by the owners and, despite the fact our Spanish is limited to very few words, we did manage some interesting 'conversations'. We also enjoyed a wonderful home baked cake on arrival and fresh eggs from their chickens. We love this area of Spain and would have no hesitation in returning to this beautiful authentic property."

Sandy & Tim | September | 2014

We had a very enjoyable stay at cottage AT15. The owners, Jose Pepe Manuel and Mari Paz, are delightful. Mari made us a huge cake, Jose gave us fresh eggs and cider. Despite them not speaking English and we speaking very little Spanish, we managed to communicate about all sorts of things. Mari showed us pictures of her daughter's wedding in the chapel on the property. Jose showed us the 300 year old cider press and other farm relics. The cottage is lovely, set on their farm, with peaceful rural views and the constant friendly sound of cow bells ringing through the valley. It is in quite a remote setting, though only 10 minutes drive to a reasonable sized town at Posada. It is about 15 minutes to beaches and 20 minutes to the spectacular Picos mountains, and reasonably central to all the attractions of the area. It is old and quaint, quite dark inside in keeping with its age, but has all modern conveniences. The beds are getting a bit old and could do with replacing the mattresses. One lovely touch was that if you put a Euro in a yellow cloth bag and hung it on the cottage door at night, the local baker would deliver a fresh warm loaf of bread first thing in the morning. Overall we really enjoyed our stay."

We absolutely loved our stay at AT15. The stone cottage was so cute with all of the flowers adorning the balcony and entrance. We had no problems whatsoever. The owners we very friendly and helpful. We could not speak spanish but we still managed to communicate. It was especially nice that we were welcomed with homemade cake and jam, both which were delicous. The fresh eggs from the chickens were a real treat. Jose kept us informed of all the local markets and it was great that bread was delivered to the door each morning. Just a couple things you might want to update in your information pack. There is a big roundabout now instead of a T junction at the point where you choose to go to either Picos de Europa or Cangas de Onis. Also in your instructions for getting to the property you said to look for a big sign (which you enclosed a picture of) before turning at the property. It is no longer there. Again, we had a lovely time at the property and definitely would recommend it to others"

Our week at AT15 was very, very good - Mari Paz and Jose were very kind and friendly from the moment we arrived, and then were extra kind when our visitor had some bad news, and I then was unwell for a couple of days with some virus or another. The supplies of cake, jam, hazelnuts, and eggs were wonderful, as was the system for supplying fresh bread each day! The facilities of the cottage were very pleasant, convenient and comfortable and the location with views of the mountains was excellent. The beds and bedrooms were also comfortable. In all it was an absolute pleasure to stay there and to meet Mari Paz and Jose. We hope to stay there again on another occasion, and we would certainly use Rustical Travel for future trips to Spain. With many thanks and kind regards"
