Overview

Some holiday homes are a joy to offer and this is one of them. It promises a goodly measure of splendour both indoors and out.

The dignified 17th century residence is situated on the edge of the pretty hamlet of Anayo, along a lane that takes you into deep tranquillity and privacy, with just one other property nearby.

A grand living room has furnishings and style to complement its impressive size. A high ceiling, quality materials, judicious lighting and a thoughtful design create a variety of very pleasant sitting areas.

This main room opens to a formidable terrace and a wooden balcony which runs the length of the front of the house. The views from here are of deep green fields and valleys, with the rocky, snow-capped Picos de Europa rising dramatically up to the sky.

Spreading out from the house, a huge garden invites children young and old to run and feel carefree. And beyond the private lawns and gardens are 5 acres used as pasture land, which also belongs to the house. The docile cows or sometimes horses with relaxing music of their bells provide a picture that might easily be found on a Swiss alpine postcard.

The property has been brought up-to-date with as much taste as expense. Rooms have character and a homely feel. It's a place where you will want to sit back and admire the beamed ceilings and decoration, which includes some contemporary paintings.

Little old windows have been restored here and there, adding to the charm to this historical building, which even has its very own little chapel alongside: an unrestored curiosity that harks back to another age, when the buildings were part of a farm dependent on a local monastery. Over a door lintel you will see the cross of the religious Order of the Skull.

The villa is situated in the Sierra del Sueve, part of the Cider Country, a comely mountain range betwixt the sea and inland Asturias. Its lower slopes curve down to evergreen fields and culminate in a rocky coast line interspersed with unspoilt sandy beaches on the zesty Atlantic Ocean.

Close at hand then are a range of excursion and activity options. If walking in the Picos de Europa is a delight, so is swimming at the pretty, well cared-for beaches. You can be at the "Dinosaur Coast" (complete with fossilized dinosaur footprints) in half an hour. Lastres fishing village is perfect for a day out, savouring the fresh seafood, good beaches and the nearby Jurassic Museum.

We aso recommend little Tazones fishing village, or a stroll around the medieval village of Espinaredo and its natural environs.

Armed with the comprehensive local information file you will receive as one of your holiday documents, we wager that you'll find a week flies by very fast here!

Food in Asturias is always a holiday highlight. A day's walking is soon restored by hearty fabada bean stew, mountain beef or seafood broth with rice. Typical to the area are cider and cheese which you may enjoy sampling.

Your local bar-restaurant in Anayo is walking distance and serves a very well-priced set meal of the day at lunchtime. And for something different and special, there’s even a top-quality Japanese restaurant nearby (booking in advance is necessary).

Caroline | July | 2023

We loved our week in Asturias. It is a beautiful area and the Picos mountains are very impressive. The property is high in the hills and all you can hear is birdsong and cow bells. The views from the house are breathtaking and definitely the highlight of our stay. There is a lovely, shady area to eat outside, between the house and the chapel, that overlooks this view and the verandah was a wonderful place to sit. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. On one side of the garden is another small holiday let (a studio apartment for 2), but you are not overlooked. The kitchen is well-equipped but small. It was fine for us as we were a party of two adults and two young children but catering for a large group of adults might be difficult. Another point is that the house is located up a long and winding mountain road - two-way, but you can't be in a hurry! You need to be prepared for a 30 minute journey or so to the nearest main roads or shops. The benefit of this is, of course, terrific views and peace and quiet! Rustical Travel were excellent throughout the booking process - very helpful and efficient. Would definitely book with them again."

This location is a paradise island! We loved everything about the surrounding and the property. Very comfortable for families with kids and couples, nature lovers and history connoisseurs. We loved the artworks at this historical house. Everything is exactly same as in the description. Optional cleaning service could be added. Thank you for professional service. We are waiting for a chance to visit a Rustic travel house again."

Mark | July | 2019

The house itself is nearly perfect - very spacious and tastefully decorated and furnished for a relaxing holiday. Location is excellent - superb views and only a few kms from towns (Infiesto etc) with all facilities you need. Easy driving through stunning Asturias countryside. We fell in love with the place. Only negative is that the kitchen seems a bit of an after-thought in the project and a barbecue outside would be such a huge asset. Otherwise , this place is pretty near perfect."

beautiful house. wonderful views. Perfect if you want to get away from it all. The only two issues are that you must drive to get food r to get anywhere, and that the kitchen is a little small for such a big house"

A family of four, two teenage boys, choose this property on line for the view and, from a map, good hills to cycle up and down. We were not disappointed. The village welcome and stunning property were more than we had hoped for. The cycling was fantastic for all and allowed routes to be planned so that we could cycle easy bits together and yet had good training climbs and descents for the boys. The weather was perfect and much better for activities and all day rides than the south of Spain which would have been too hot. Yes the property is remote, but the local bar was friendly and happy to provide food on request. The perfect holiday for us and we would happily return."

A wonderful experience for someone who likes to get away from everywhere with fantastic scenery, great little village and a very welcoming bar. English speakers were non-existent but that did not matter. Everywhere was at least half an hour or more away but for us this was not a problem even though we had 3 active youngsters in our party of eight. Very clean and well presented but kitchen a bit small."

We had the most amazing time at our holiday home in Spain. The house is fabulous and the view from the balcony was superb. Rustical travel were a great company to deal with, we had a small problem whilst we were there and they sorted it very quickly and followed up to make sure we were happy. The house was spotless when we got there and we couldn't praise the local caretaker enough. She was wonderful. Highly recommended."

I am writing to say how much we enjoyed out holiday at villa AT11, and to say thank you for your assistance. The villa lived up to everything in the brochure and the setting was truly breathtaking. Not speaking any Spanish, we still found it very easy to get by with the help of a guide book and a bit of patience from other people. I would definitely recommend Northern Spain to anyone, and your web site. Thank you once again for your help."

AT11 is wonderful property in a magical, tranquil area - much space, great views and a sunny aspect, more of a home than a rental property. It was however slightly let down by 1. small kitchen - fine for two of us but if one had 6 or 8 people there, the kitchen is impractical 2. remote - we ended up driving for a long time to get to the Picos or the coast (this is more than offset by the beauty of the location with the consequence that we stayed for several days in an around the house / garden) 3. proximity of the other smaller property - slightly overlooked but I am not complaining - the house far exceeded our expectations and we would go back. It was a lovely, quiet rural experience, exactly what we were looking for."

We want to give Rustical Travel as organization the highest possible marks on all aspects: choice and range of properties, ease of making the booking and payments, speed and professionalism of the answers provided, friendliness of staff, and personalized service. We felt during the whole process of making a first contact in December up until our stay in Asturias very much taking care of. Thanks to all of you for this. It helped making our holiday very rewarding and special. as far as location is concerned, you will not easily find something better. What a gorgeous view and environment, and so quiet !!! Also the house itself is beautifully done, very well and tastefully decorated. Everything you need is there. A few smaller remarks: only 4 (white...) towels for a week is a bit low, as you do not want to do too much laundry during your vacation. The house is damp and in some places you can smell mould. Obviously it is an old house in a 'wet' environment, but airing it as much as possible, also if it is not occupied, may help. The kitchen equipment is, compared to the rest of the house, a bit behind. Everything works, but it cannot compare to e.g. AG21. All information in the house is only in Spanish, which, with also a 'Spanish only' caretaker, makes it a bit of puzzle sometimes for non-spanish guest like ourselves. But overall, we liked it even better than AG21. Again, thanks for everything, and please see our remarks as ways of even further improving the experience of future guests. We will certainly recommend both Rustical Travel and the individual houses to all our friends."

Our party comprised a family of six including two young men aged 18 and 20. We very much loved the house in Anayo. It is a great space with wonderful views in a quiet, calm and rural setting and it very much fulfilled our hopes. Yes it is remote but this suited us and as other reviewers have mentioned, the bar was friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the short trip for a very inexpensive drink or two and the chance to feel part of local life. The kitchen was small but it was adequate for purpose provided that everybody didn’t congregate in there at the same time. The kitchen equipment was fine for our needs although I would plead for some sharper preparation knives. The weather could have been better at times but it did not prevent us from pursuing our plans and we knew that this was on the cards when visiting Green Spain. The mist in the valley in the mornings provided some marvellous camera shots; sometimes it lifted and sometimes it didn’t! On a slightly negative note, we felt that the house instructions should also be provided in English and that they need to be updated. Our 20 year old is a student in Spanish (a reason for choosing the area) but without this advantage we would have found it difficult. The information on recycling needs to be updated with details as to where to put glass and paper as well as general waste. Most important, however, is that there was no information about getting medical help if necessary. A doctor’s number should be available in case of emergency. Bread can be ordered and delivered to the bar but it does not arrive until 11 am (12 on Sundays) so this should be borne in mind- no fresh bread for breakfast. The service provided by Rustical Travel was excellent at all stages from booking to the receipt of final details, the staff friendly and the service personal. The information available ahead of departure was very useful in planning our journey and activities once there and was much appreciated. Not having wifi meant that we were reliant on what we had available so we made good use of it. I would certainly recommend this property and also the services of Rustical Travel."

Rustical Update

In early 2017 we helped the property manager translate the housebook into English so this information can be available at the house. Our local info also includes now medical contacts in case it is needed.
From 2020 there is now WiFi at this property.
