Overview

Madrid is a lot more than a vibrant city.

North of Madrid, the National Park of Guadarrama is an area of outstanding natural beauty. At the foot of this mountain range there are a number of pretty lakes surrounded by ever-green oak woods.

These lakes are actually important water reservoirs which add beauty to Madrid´s mountain scenery, and here, right by the shore of one of these lakes, we find this exclusive Madrilian getaway. 

This truly unique finca has over 70 acres of land and it is only 45mins away from Madrid City, 15mins from the impressive Escorial village and monastery... and about 20mins to the base of Guadarrama Mountains. You are also only 50mins away from the World Heritage City of Segovia, another great day out.

While there are great benefits from being at striking distance away from so many interest points, what excited us the most was what we found at the villa itself, which the Rustical team has decided to label as luxury for being exclusive and having some excellent outdoor facilities.

The property is all laid out on one floor, making it easy for elderly guests or families with small children; mind the pool, though, as it is not gated.

Cooking facilities are good and we liked the addition of a practical prep area next to the kitchen.

There are 600 m2 of property so this is a spacious villa with plenty of room for 15 people. Although the formal dining room sits 10 people only, there are further tables to accommodate the full capacity of the house. Outdoors you will find tables and chairs for eating al fresco with views over the lake, all arranged around the gardens.

The master bedroom is clearly superior to the others with direct access to gardens, a good- sized living area including a fireplace and en-suite facilities; we found the twin beds pushed together a bit odd for a master bedroom, but we were told by property managers that they have intentions of changing this for a king size double.

All bedrooms have great views, except for one which nevertheless looks out at the terraces and ample green gardens.

The lounge is classy and arranged around the fireplace; during our first visit to the property the under floor heating was on and the fire lit, which we found truly cosy and pleasant. A number of sliding doors open up to the terraces and gardens, making the outdoor and indoor areas blend beautifully together – a gift for the long sunny Madrilian summer.

No matter how inviting and characterful the indoor space, the outdoors certainly does not bring the whole picture down: imagine vast grounds all for yourself with acres of woods and over 4 miles of private hiking paths within the property.

This is a large finca which requires home sitters for its proper maintenance. They discreetly live at the back of the property but your privacy is always valued and respected, while they are also at hand if needed.

The gardens around the house have matured well over time so sunbathing or simply relaxing here in total privacy is a great benefit.

Although summer temperatures here are not as hot as Madrid city by any means, the sun can still be intense in the afternoon, a time when the electric awnings on the terraces come in handy. Although Madrid City suffers from very hot summers, this location normally benefits from a lovely regime of breezes. Temperatures are usually quite comfortable even during summertime compared to the city.

For guests who like action or enjoy spending some play time with their children, there is a football pitch, a paddle tennis court, table tennis, crocket, and even a kids´ play area (not a very exciting one, probably better suited for little ones).

When you are in the pool or strolling in the gardens, the views of the lake are omnipresent. Levels of this reservoir fluctuate according to rainfall, but the sight does feel like you are looking over the sea.

And the views go beyond the lake... as far as the stunning Escorial Monastery, an architectural highlight in Madrid.

We love offering this place for holidays. It is such an exciting place to spend free time with family or friends and we like the thought of it once being just a humble little cottage for a local shepherd!

This home is one of the most beautiful, comfortable, well-appointed homes that I have ever seen in Spain. It is located close to a town with everything, and convenient for making excursions to the most interesting sights in central Spain. The surrounding land is gorgeous, right on a large reservoir and with a lovely pool on the property. The rooms and bathrooms are comfortable and spacious as is the rest of the house. The living room has an enormous fireplace and is all glass so the views of the yard are spectacular. I highly recommend booking this property
