Overview

You imagine castles to be faded but splendid relics of bygone days– maybe haunted by the ghosts of history and definitely a chilly place to sleep.

Yet this 15th century castle-villa manages to capture the warmth of the Spanish sun, and with over 40 years of heavy restoration beneath its belt you can enjoy the comforts of the modern world interwoven with features of the past.

The Mediterranean landscape shimmers in all directions boasting colorful fields stitched together, deep shady groves and rambling woodlands. Instead of watching for an approaching army you can sip your morning coffee on the first floor terrace without fear of a bow and arrow through the heart.

Large parties can soak up the outdoor space; lounging beside the gated pool, wandering across the lawns, feasting on meats and mead in the covered barbeque area, and shooting pool in the stone arched games room.

Pushing open the large oak doors and stepping into the reception with its curved red brick ceiling and old stone walls, you can see why we get a tingle in our toes when talking about this property.

The original features are dripping in history. From the archway slits now turned artfully into a window to the winding stone stairwell, the heavy open fireplaces, and the original slab floors – it’s a place for the imagination to run wild.

The dining room with its long wooden trestle table, cheery yellow walls, and chandeliers is a place to gorge with family and friends.

All of the seven bedrooms are bright despite being a castle, perhaps the original bedrooms on the first floor could be considered slightly superior due to their curious features.

Of course the rooms don’t hold the regal opulence we imagine they once did; silks and jewels have been cast aside to make way for simple finery like clean towels and comfortable beds.

Yet we can bet that no one will be booking this property for the beds but to relish the opportunity to reside in a house once owned by the noble general Carlist back in the political war of 1833.

As you can imagine the castle is off in a far and distant land – away from prying eyes yet only a twenty -minute drive from the town of Solsona. There you can find a place steeped in legends, street markets and fine flavors, with carved gargoyles at every turn and glorious gourmet dining.

With three major airports less than a couple of hours away; escaping into your own fairytale has never been easier.
