Notes on Layout

Overview
What we have here is a straightforward, well-cared for villa where all the important elements are supplied plus some interesting extras.
The property is completely private, with the extraordinarily broad views you can appreciate from the photos.
It’s designed with the accent on outdoor living to make the most of a climate typified by long, warm, sunny months from spring to autumn.
It’s also in a very peaceful spot where you have every reason to expect peaceful days and nights in the Andalucia setting. The locals cultivate the land, but there is no heavy farming activity.
The house is fully equipped for self catering.
We'd have liked proper wardrobe space in the main bedroom rather than shelves, but the bed felt comfortable cushioned with latex, and shutters plus curtains shut out the sunlight if you want to sleep in, or take a siesta.
For indoor dining, you're fairly limited. There’s a breakfast bar and a small dining table with low stools provided for the purpose.
You have much better options outside. On the viewing terrace there are two dining tables, one of which can always be in shade. There’s a barbecue here, which may sometimes be subject to restrictions during the very dry summer months, so to supplement this, and if required, the owner provides an electric hotplate for outdoor grilling at any time of year.
The kitchen is small but very adequate. It’s the views from the kitchen that we remember best. This really is a beautiful area and the views of the Ronda hills will stay with you long after you leave.
The villa has a salt-filtered pool: it is very inviting, and nicely separated from the villa on a lower level.
The steps down to the pool terrace can be gated at the top, so the villa may be of interest to those of you with a child. The wall around the terrace patio is around 1.5 metres high and we did not feel that there were drops that made the property unsuitable for children. Only the fact that the mezzanine bedroom is upstairs might not make completely suitable for little ones. This second room has relatively low ceilings and overlooks the living area.
Poolside, the views continue. There is an additional small table under a simple pergola which also provides some shade.
You can set up the outdoor table tennis here for games of ping pong. Given the space, the ball may end up more than once in the pool, but we reckon this could well be part of the fun.
All in all, it’s a very nice choice for a couple who don’t need luxury but do want privacy and a decent standard of accommodation.
Especially recommended local trips are Ronda, just half an hour away and Grazalema at the same distance, where hikes in the Natural Park are a treat.
Another tip, which you’ll find explained in more detail in the local guide we send you as one of your holiday documents, is a bathing area on Lake Zahara on the way to Grazalema. Dinner at a restaurant overlooking the lake in Zahara village itself can be a highlight of a holiday here.
For other days out, Seville is less than an hour and a half.
Five minutes from the villa, El Gastor is a placid village where you will get a feel for genuine Andalucia and can buy all the simple shopping you may need. It has café-bar terraces where you can sit out of an evening.
Location
The early folds of the western Ronda mountains, near the Natural Park of Grazalema.
5 mins drive from El Gastor village. Accessed along a steepish 600 metres tarmac road perfectly negotiable with an ordinary car in 1st gear (but the smallest category hire car might struggle to get up).

+ Read moreWhat a stunning property. Jose was so friendly and helpful when we arrived and checked we were ok. Beautiful views. Peace and quiet. The cottage had everything we needed. Definitely go shopping in Olvera before you go to the cottage. Just Google maps Mercadona and it has everything you need there. Our teenagers enjoyed the ping pong table and the lovely pool too. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Jose and thank you for another amazing trip Rustical Travel."
+ Read moreThis is our second visit to Jose’s beautiful villa. He’s the perfect host and replies to any queries almost immediately! We had our young son with us and Jose provided a ‘travel’ cot, but it was really substantial and had a great mattress with very sweet sheets too! The villas is immaculate and very well looked after. The views are outstanding, having a sundowner watching the sunset and seeing the stars com out - it’s so peaceful. We’ll absolutely be back!"
+ Read moreThe road uphill was rather steep, but apart from that this is a wonderfull place to relax and discover Andalucia. The view From the large terraces is stunning, the house very pretty, welcoming and convenient. Thanks to our pleasant host, who informed us about the corpus-christ fiesta in the nearby village, we could witness a marvellous Andalucian tradition. The area is full of beautifull nature and more wonderfull pueblos blancos. We would recommend it to anyone with a car (and some mountain-drving skills)."
+ Read moreThis property was excellent and obviously well loved by the owner. The villa inside was immaculate as was the garden and pool area. Beautiful setting with outstanding views. Thank you once again to Rustical travel for their efficiency and professionalism."
+ Read moreThe villa is truly outstanding, so tranquil and the views are just amazing. Jose Antonio (owner) is really nice, always available to help but leaves you alone to enjoy your stay. The amenities within are plentiful, everything worked and we encountered no problems. The track can be daunting, but a normal car in 1st gear can achieve the drive up. Rustical travel were amazing as always, friendly and really helpful. We experienced a number of issues with our flights out this year and they were excellent with their help and advice."
+ Read moreFantastic views"
+ Read moreI love the place, perfectly clean. I love the energy and the amazing views. We didn't like the noise from the neighbour's, lots of machines, music, loud speaking during the weekends. However, We would still come back, because it was amazing and we would be doing something else during weekends."
+ Read moreWe loved this rural hillside hideaway, with terrific landscape and mountain views ahead, and also looking across to the sparking whitewashed houses of El Gastor. Lots of birds and wildlife to enjoy, especially the majestic vultures flying overhead. We wished we had binoculars - so pack a small pair if you have them. Amazing sunsets! The villa is well equipped and cosy (we went in October/November and it was colder weather in the second week) and the wifi is strong so we were able to have the semi-working/writing holiday we planned. We had a few hot days in the first week - the pool is a lovely size and great for cooling off. Our top tip is to swing by the Mercadona supermarket on the outskirts of Olvera to stock up on supplies before arriving at the villa. Hosts Jose and Isabel are super-friendly, and we loved hearing that the villa was the farmhouse that belonged to Isabel's grandfather and where he used to press grapes for wine. Highly recommended, and as ever, the team at Rustical Travel were helpful and knowledgeable. We plan to return!"
+ Read moreWe had a fantastic stay. The villa was so cute, the pool lovely and the view outstanding! I would highly recommend and would definitely return for another relaxing break. Many thanks!"
+ Read moreA really lovely small villa - the photos do not do it justice! We are a small family - one adult and 2 teenagers, and it was perfect for our needs. The property was immaculately clean and tidy and well equipped, plus had plenty of shady areas to sit and admire the lovely views. The drive up to the villa is steep and winding, but we had upgraded our hire car to a larger model as advised and it was not a problem. There are chickens nearby but the cockerel kindly didn't crow until 11.30 each morning! El Gastor is not touristy with no really decent restaurants, although is excellent for day-to-day provisions with a great little bakery and choice of little supermarkets. Ronda, Grazalema and Zahara de la Sierra were our favourites for evenings out, and all are within a 45 minute picturesque drive"
+ Read moreGreat place to stay, everything we were looking for and more, loved peace and quiet and the views, great pool and fantastic location.."
+ Read moreRef: RD76 We had an amazing time at the villa and surrounding area. The property itself in reality is better than the photos depict... the photos are really good! The level of finish and attention to detail of both the villa and its many areas for relaxing, are second to none. Well kitted out and in need of nothing this is a true home from home where the host Jóse Antonio (one of the soundest people you'll ever meet) was incredibly welcoming and obliging, with nothing an issue, a true gent. We will return one day soon but next time we will skip Malaga for the few days before and after and spend the time in El Gastor. The people of which are warm, friendly and enjoy the banter, regardless of language barriers. Eat at the Gastropub, views and incredible food at an amazing price. Lastly hats off to Rustical Travel, very accommodating and professional with excellent communication. Mark Jen"
+ Read moreGreat property. Great communication from Rustical Travel."
+ Read moreWe loved this rustic villa. Jose was very nice when he met us and the villa itself was spotlessely clean and well equipped. The location, the pool, terraces and the view absolutley fantastic. Perfect for a couple deserving some rest relaxation (exactly as the website says). The drive up and down to the villa is a lot of fun, don't let it put you off ! We would recommend this villa without hesitation."
+ Read moreThis is a lovely well equipped villa which is ideal for two people. The gardens and views are fantastic and there are plenty of different places to sit and enjoy the ever changing vistas. We really enjoyed our stay at RD76 and we could quite easily have spent another week here. There is plenty to do and visit in the surrounding areas. We arrived on the day of a Fiesta in El Gastor so all of the shops were shut. Jose was really helpful and after double checking that everything was shut he directed us to the supermarket in Olvera. This does stock everything and is approx a 20 minute drive away. This is the second time that we have booked with Rustical Travel and I cannot fault the service. Many thanks to all."
+ Read moreWe absolutely loved our stay in this wonderful property - the pool views were outstanding. The villa was well equipped and comfortable everything had been thought of, spare toilet rolls, a hairdryer even a welcoming bottle of wine which was lovely. El Gastor is a very Spanish non tourist village but that’s what we wanted - we loved the walk into town for a cold beer tapas ( it is a good 30 minute walk quite steep coming back up the track but great exercise) there are many fabulous walks in the area with stunning scenery. Zahara is one of our favourite villages and the lake views amazing , We revisited Ronda and it was still spectacular but a little touristy for us. This is a fab location and we are even considering a 2 week holiday next year - can not recommend highly enough - PS Jose was extremely helpful , very welcoming and always near if we needed him for anything !"
+ Read moreYour own comments above concerning 'rest and relaxation' are well chosen! The service provided by Rustical Travel was outstanding throughout, all the information /paperwork was sent in good time and helpful. A last minute request en route asking for the closest, large supermarket nearest to the property was answered, even on a busy (for you) Saturday! You suggested Mercadona in Olvera and I suggest you include it in your information for this villa in future as it is excellent and much closer than Ronda! We were met on time by a smiling, kind and very helpful Jose Antonio, he was clearly available throughout our stay had we needed anything and he even drove us to nearby El Gastor one evening! The villa was lovely and in a delightfully peaceful location. All the necessary equipment was in place and easy to find. Two minor criticisms: the outdoor chairs could be updated and be wooden, rather than plastic and the double bed is rather small. We had a wonderful holiday, thank you and well done!"
Rustical Update
This property has from August 2022 a larger double bed (1.50 metre wide)
Having taken note about the car hire, due to the track up to the property, we hired a Nissan duke, with a bit more ground clearance which we were glad we did. Once you have done the track up a couple of times it becomes less of a issue as you get used to it. It is quite steep with some hairpins. However when you get to the property all this faded away as it was everthing we could have wished for. Just a 30 minute walk into the village, that has pretty much all you will need for provisions and the views from the terrace are amazing. The pool and the grounds are very secure and private and the owner was really good going through everything with us, we arrived a bit early but this was not an issue to him. The whole finca, gardens and pool were very clean and we'll presented. A peacefull setting which made us stay local, with plenty of good eating places in the village anything from tapas to 3 course set menus, they all take a little bit of finding in the maze of streets but once found them you could vary your choice day to day. A couple of small supermarkets with a butchers and bakers in the main street of the village, were ample to stock up as and when. we did one big shop on the way down from Seville, however this was perhaps not necessary other than being able to turn up on the first day without having to go out shopping. Comfy bed, good appliances, plenty of different sitting/lying out area in the grounds and the views from the patio table is just to die for. Would definitely go back!"
+ Read moreGreat house on a great location away from the big tourism (at least in October). We very much enjoyed our stay and José was a great host! Definitely on our ‘places to go back to’ list."
+ Read moreProperty Reference RD76 is a fabulous little "villa" operated by a friendly and helpful local man, Jose Antonio. After the noise and bustle of 3 days in Seville, the peaceful location of the villa and the fabulous views (the photos on the website do not do it justice) were just what we had hoped for. The weather during our stay (4th to 8th October) was apparently exceptional for the time of year - we had continuous sunshine and temperatures around 30 degrees C. The pool was just right for a (very) refreshing dip - brrr. It is not really big enough to swim in but great for cooling off and mucking about with the inflatables provided (I have yet to grow up!). I didn't see any sign of the bikes mentioned on the website entry for the villa - maybe they were being serviced. The villa had everything needed to cook, eat, drink, sleep, shower etc and relax - the kitchen is small but well supplied with crockery, utensils etc. Some pegs or snap closures to seal plastic bags would have been useful - there were a couple of "tupperware" boxes however. The surrounding area is great for exploring - the road from Zahara to Grazalema is spectacular and precipitous. We visited several "white villages" and would recommend a small car for hiring. On our last day, we visited the town of Olvera just to the north east of us and on our way to the airport saw on the map a "natural park" which turned out to have one of the largest populations of griffin vultures in Europe. It was called el peñón de Zaframagón (the rock of Zaframagon) and at one time in the air above the car we had 60 or so vultures circling on the warm air updrafts. We would definitely go back to RD76."
+ Read moreThis was our second visit back to this fab villa! This time the pool was warm and delightful because the weather this September was much better than last year! Can't fault the owner or Rustical Travel, all went smoothly and if its a break from the hustle and bustle of busy life that you want then this is the place!!"
+ Read moreWow - quite possibly the best holiday i've ever had. We spent a night in wonderful Seville then headed down to the villa the next day. We were blown away by the views when we arrived - everything was perfect, exactly what we wanted for a romantic, relaxed break. The pool was great, we had everything we needed, and the villa was in a great remote location, but still situated well enough for some good excursions to Ronda, Grazalema, San Diego (great little beach down there), Cadiz and numerous rural villages. The driving was always dramatic and fun - some amazing mountain roads - take it easy and enjoy! Wonderful memories of this lovely place."
+ Read moreThis was our second stay at this property and hopefully won't be our last. It is the perfect retreat. The views are breathtaking and everything you could wish for provided in the cortijo. The pool was spotlessly clean as was the house. The wifi signal was strong so we were able to send our lovely photos home to make everyone jealous. Love the ping pong table! Thanks"
+ Read moreThe villa and surrounding area was everything we dreamed of. The service from Rustical Travel was impeccable. We plan to return as soon as we can."
+ Read moreWe loved this little villa and peaceful location. The Villa, patio, pool and gardens just delightful and the views are amazing. We will be back soon!
+ Read moreHighly recommend this villa just outside El Gastor! Exactly as described on the website but I suggest its even better than that, the view is to die for and the villa itself has everything that you need for your stay! I cannot fault either Rustical Travel in our preparation for the holiday, or the owner Jose, for making our stay one to remember. Cannot wait to come back!!"
+ Read moreWe had a wonderful week relaxing at this villa. It had everything we needed and the views were an added bonus. José was very friendly and helpful, as were the locals at the nearby village, El Gastor. We are definitely planning to make a return visit. The directions and information about the surrounding area were also most helpful."
+ Read moreWonderful place - went there with my husband and 7 year son, and we had a great time. The house was just the right size for us and it had everything we needed. Beautiful setting and the most amazing sunsets - we were extremely sad to leave and the owners are wonderful and extremely helpful - thanks again for looking after us."
+ Read moreVery enjoyable holiday. The villa is in the perfect spot with sunshine all day. Would recommend for sure."
+ Read moreIt is such a lovely place! The villa is in a quiet location with spectacular views. The high quality of the property and attention to detail exceeded our expectations. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and we could tell that he took pride in his villa and in ensuring that everything was perfect for guests. We had such a wonderful holiday we really didn’t want to leave and we hope to return to the villa in the future. We were impressed with the service provided by Rustical Travel. Everything went smoothly and the information provided about the property, travel routes, etc. was very accurate. The company were very quick and helpful in replying to our queries. The villa and Rustical Travel are recommended. Kinga and Dave"
+ Read moreLovely cottage in a great location. It's very well equipped with everything you need. The pool is great and there are fantastic views from the terrace. A very relaxing place for a holiday."
+ Read moreSuperb location, friendly, unspoilt village, plenty to do in the area. The cortijo had all we needed, pretty gardens and Jose Antonio looked after us well - ideal for two people or a young family, we would definitely go back. The beauty of RD76 is the peaceful location. The only drawback is that there is another holiday let next door, further down the hill to the left - we could hear voices in the evening. If there were a noisy crowd here it would spoil things for anyone looking for peace and tranquility. The house to the right was quiet. It would help if clients were given the NAME of the house as well as directions. When we arrived we found it difficult to tell which was the right house, despite the directions. There is a sign to the cortijo at the corner of the lane but we did not know the name of the house, so it did not help!"
Rustical Update
Further details included on our directions to the property assure the house can be easily located.
Thank you Rustica. Everything exceeded our expectations. Such amazing valued money. The villa was so secluded, well equipped and am ideal escape from city life. We'll be back next year. Jamie and Tracy x"
