Overview

Five minutes from charismatic Grazalema village, your newly-built villa is lodged high up in the natural park's intriguingly rugged hillside.

The track up to the villa is manageable in a normal car, but it's steep alright and you’ll want first gear for the last 200 metres.

You’re thrillingly on your own here, well away from it all, hidden among the limestone crags. You have direct access to the hillside and can walk up to the mountain ridge for stunning panoramic vistas.

The house and blue mosaic pool are in sun most of the day, with different furnished and shaded spots to sit out. A couple of outside areas are surfaced in white pebbles and there’s a grassy area by the pool.

The villa is modern in build and facilities. The salient points are:

• An airy, double-height living room with a grand picture window view of the mountains.

• Five bedrooms.

• A smart, new kitchen with wooden food-prepping bar and modern bathrooms.

• A pool and olive tree garden in plenty of sun.

• A furnished patio with wooden dining table and sunshade.

The seclusion and the view are what really make the place stand out.

Lounging in the sun, or resting in the shade of the old oak tree after a dip in the pool, are both inviting notions, but sooner or later you’ll be tempted to roam up above the house and garden. The boundary between the property and the common hillside not marked and if you head up 15 minutes, you’ll be rewarded with views of all the peaks of Grazalema Natural Park, the Serrania de Ronda, villages and on a clear day even Sierra Nevada in distant Granada.

Nearby Grazalema, tucked away in its own Natural Park, is a delightfully well preserved village with a lot of history and a willingness to make visitors feel welcome and well-served. It has all the normal facilities you may need, a variety of café-bars and restaurants, some with terraces by the quiet central square. It has an imaginative mini-spa baths, an excellent tourism office, and a gorgeous location with sweeping view down the valley.

Many people come here solely for the walking. There are fantastic hikes in the hills and also caves to explore.

What's more, offered for free to Rustical Travel guests is a special opportunity to explore one of the very best walks in Grazalema. The owner is an accredited local walking guide, with access to some of the restricted areas in Grazalema Natural Park. If he's available the week you are there, he will guide you on a morning walk of 3 to 4 hours, having talked over the choice with you on arrival. Other walks can be contracted with him, or you can ask him about self-guided hikes.

For other days out, half an hour away is quintessentially Andalucian Ronda with its dramatic bridges spanning the gorges, a favourite destination of Orson Welles and an inspiration for Hemingway, who spent hours at its bullring, the oldest in Spain.

We also recommend a picnic on the green banks of a lagoon 15 minutes away, when you can paddle, swim and shelter from the sun under the trees.

A simply superb house, very well appointed and in a beautiful secluded location with rich wildlife. One of the most speical houses we have stayed in. The owners are lovely people and we enjoyed the complementary guided walk one afternoon. The booking experience with Rustical Travel was very smooth and we felt very well briefed before arrival."

Charles | August | 2019

The villa just a brief drive from Grazalema has been beautifully restored with some really well thought out modern features blended excellently with the old building. The location is remote and really quiet so don't expect any interaction and distraction with other people, as this is the place for a peaceful holiday surrounded by nature. The views are spectacular and don't be put off by the narrow private road up to the villa, once you've done it a couple of times it's nothing. A four wheel drive car would be welcomed but not essential, although may increase your confidence. Booking is super simple with Rustical Travel and they provide an excellent welcome pack with really helpful information that will ensure you enjoy your stay. This is a gem if you're looking for a peaceful holiday with great views, I would recommend it to anyone."

Absolutely stunning location, so peaceful with just the occasional cries from the vultures to interrupt the silence. The owners are lovely, absolutely non obtrusive and the care and delight they take in everybody having a fabulous holiday at this location shows. Grazia village is a short drive away and so pretty. We didn't want to leave!"

Quite magical We can’t recommend this villa enough. It has everything you need for a totally relaxed and away from it all break. We spent lazy days by the pool, going for local walks or adventuring out beyond Grazalema, but always eager to return to the tranquillity of RD49. OK, so the approach track is a little challenging the first time, but the reward you get at the end is worth the tiny effort. The views are just jaw dropping. Every which way you look there is something to see, whether the changing colours of the mountains, the circling eagles, or just lying back at night stargazing. Wonderful. And so very quiet and totally peaceful. The perfect place to relax and unwind. The place was spotless, spacious and airy. The pool kept sparkly and clean. The owners have put a great deal of effort into making the place perfect and it shows. We have very happy memories of a superb holiday. Thank you!"

We came to stay in this wonderful villa at the beginning of November. It really is a very special place, quiet apart from the occasional goat bell and is set in some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. The drive is steep but manageable and well worth the effort. The villa itself is very comfortable with every facility you could hope for. Wifi is slow but sufficient for news, weather reports and local information, the wood-burner more than a match for the chilling of the evening. Quite apart for its location in a spectacular national park, the villa is in a great spot for trips out to a fine array of Andalucian towns, such as Ronda, Cadiz, Jerez. All are easily accessible while driving on good roads through superb scenery. Genuinely this was one of the best holidays we have ever had and we will be sure to come back. Many thanks to Sergio and family for making us so welcome."

We had another excellent holiday in this villa. The setting is amazing with stunning views and so peaceful except for the rather haunting sound made at night by the dear as they were rutting. We also had regular visits from an ibex as well as sitting by the pool watching vultures and eagles circle high over head. The villa itself is so lovely - beautifully decorated and with so many extra touches to make you really feel at home. Thanks to Rustical Travel for making the booking process so quick and easy and for all the useful information you sent beforehand. Special thanks also to Sergio who took us on an amazing walk. Much of the time there didn't seem to be a proper path but Sergio knew exactly where we were going and we reached a peak with spectacular views across the whole area and down to the lake at Zahara. Along the way Sergio gave us so much information about the area, the wildlife, where he used to live, etc - a walk with Sergio is definitely recommended and we hope we can do another one next time we visit. As well as enjoying some beautiful walks in the Grazalema area we also went to the coast for a day - I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly you can reach the coast from Grazalema; made even better by the beautiful countryside all along the route."

What a beautiful villa! We were off to a great start even before the holiday started with all the excellent information that Rustical Travel sent us. Once we arrived in Malaga, the driving directions were excellent and we had a very straightforward trip to Ronda where we stopped for lunch. Then onto Grazalema where we met Sergio and Jero, the owners of the villa - they were very friendly and helpful. I have to say that the track up to the villa is very steep near the top - I think our car was happy when the holiday was over! The villa itself is every bit as beautiful as it looks in the pictures on the website and there are so many extra touches that make it perfect. The setting is amazing and if you want to get away from it all then this is the place for you. Sitting by the pool on the first evening I heard some rustling and looked up to see a deer walking up the path beside the house - it reappeared on other occasions during the holiday. The pool is small, great for a dip but not if you want actually want to swim. Having said that, it is just a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the amazing scenary. It is possible to walk to Grazalema from the villa but the path is not well defined from the villa and if you go wrong (as we did) it's an awkward descent back down! Grazalema is a beautiful village although it does attract coach loads of tourists - it's best to visit in the evenings after the day trippers have left. The main purpose of our holiday was to walk and there are some really lovely walks. Unfortunately the tourist office in Grazalema was closed which meant we had to go to El Bosque to collect permits for the Garganta Verde walk - thoroughly recommended. On the plus side, this gave us the opportunity to do the river walk from El Bosque to Benamahoma - another really lovely walk. All in all a fantastic holiday - so good we are considering a return trip for later this year!"

The first thing I should say is that I found the website very easy to use and any e-mails I had from the company were very polite. You never know when booking on line if the property you have rented is as good as the photos. Well, I can tell you that this property is even better. If you want to get away from it all, then this is the place to go. The journey from the airport in the car is lovely and doesn't take too long and the directions given to us were spot on. I would recommend stocking up in the supermarket, as told by the property owners, as this property is very high up in the mountains and the nearest shop is a car ride away in Grazalema village. After the very steep climb in the car to the villa, it doesn't disappoint! It is very tastefully decorated and has plenty of room. It is very well equipped in the kitchen and even has pool towels supplied. It is clear that the villa has recently been decorated and feels very luxurious. The views from the villa and the pool are fantastic! It is so quiet and peaceful and a great place to get away from it all!"
