Overview

For couples or a small family who have a number of requirements and a moderate budget, this cottage satisfies in its own neat and simple way.

The property offers what many of our clients ask for: a pretty, natural setting; privacy and seclusion within walking distance of a village; outdoor dining, a pool and garden; a decent standard of well-maintained accommodation; WiFi internet and walks from the front door.

It’s not luxurious, but it’s more than satisfactory, and it comes very fairly priced. If you don’t need a fancy country kitchen, bedrooms with amazing views, or an Olympic size pool, you’ll find a very nice holiday home in this Andalucia villa.

The property is reached from Gaucin village down a one-kilometre track which doubles as a walking path in the wooded hillside. We reckon the walk up to Gaucin at 25 minutes going there and 20 minutes coming back downhill.

Cottage, garden and pool are very correctly kept and completely private. The wooden fencing you see in the photos simply encloses the property to keep any wandering horses out, and the property boundary extends some way beyond.

The villa is unpretentious inside but attractively presented. The main building gives you two sofas in the living room, a perfectly adequate kitchen for self-catering and two bedrooms.

Beds are only standard size, but mattresses are viscoelastic and we imagined sleeping very deeply at this tranquil location.

Directly outside the kitchen, a vine-shaded dining terrace is a favourite spot for meals. As fire prevention regulations in this forest environment mean that charcoal can’t be burned on barbecues, the owner provides a gas-fired hot plate griddle so that you can still cook outside.

It may be a modest property, but the owner cares for it and is always making small improvements.

Adjoining the main cottage is a conservatory and here there’s another indoor dining area, as well as additional sofas and TV. It’s a fun space for children, especially.

The pool and garden round off the property very pleasantly. The villa is neither superior nor by any means inferior, but rather in a Goldilocks zone: just right, simply providing all you need for a self-catering holiday in privacy and comfort.

There’s a small lawn with at most a minor drop by its garden wall. Generally speaking, the property’s a good option for young children or people with reduced mobility, being all on one level. It’s not common to achieve such a  level of convenience out in the woods.

The pool is not gated, but it is slightly raised.

You feel very snug here, in the garden, in the pool, ensconced in the woods. There isn’t a view as such, but you have a clear sight of the peak of Gaucin’s Hacho mountain.

Although there is excellent privacy and a good level of seclusion, you are not totally isolated and there are other houses in the mountains. But they are at such a distance away that we find it difficult to imagine how your tranquility might be spoilt.

Before we went to visit the cottage, we already recognized that it was located on a little known circular walking route. It’s one that we recommend in the local Gaucin Guide that we include as a holiday document for people coming to the area. It’s not the only such walk, some of which are long and beautiful, but it's on you doorstep.

The walk up to town is perfectly manageable even in summer as a lot of the track passes through woodland which provides at least partial shade. As long as it’s not too hot, the walk is perfectly pleasant.

Gaucin is one of Malaga’s top village choices for rural holidays. There are some good options for eating out and the views are terrific.

Just over half an hour away are sandy beaches.

We had our minimoon at this property and had a wonderful relaxing time beside the pool. Magnificent place all round."

Zeno | July | 2024

The rental is good, it is cute, it looks like the picture. HOWEVER, there is a HUGE issue with wasps. There is probably a nest nearby because there were on average more than 15 wasps graviting in and out the swimming pool and there were always coming from the same area above the house. During the 7 days we spent there, we could not use the pool at all and it was very disappointing as the pool was one of the main reasons why we chose the location. We asks the owner if she could help but she said there was nothing to be done. However there are plenty of traps that are made for this or she could have called a specialist to do something about this as there was most likely a nest as I mentionned earlier. So if your goal is to chill ar the house in the swimming pool, this house is not a good choice. If you dont care about the pool, the house is very cute."

Rustical Update

The local manager acknowledged that there were wasps in the area during some summer days. While no nest was found at the time, they will monitor the situation closely next season to address any potential issues. Unfortunately, it's difficult to completely prevent wasps or other insects in rural outdoor environments, but the team will take measures to minimize their impact as much as possible

We liked it very much. A bit scary when the fire was raging in the nearby national park! The hot water is very slow and you have to waste so much to receive!"

Delightful and very relaxing property in an idyllic spot so we had a lovely time. The cottage is very private but not cut off and within easy walking distance of the village. We walked in every day and most evenings, taking a small torch with us. It was particularly fabulous watching and listening to nature, the eagles and vultures soaring in the skies above, when lounging about during the day pool side – my idea of heaven. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and his wife when they were down feeding their son’s horse Duce, adjacent to the property - what a lovely couple – they gave us home grown fruit and vegetables and eggs too with occasional lifts up to the village. I must admit I fell in love with Duce – he truly is a beauty. In fact I fell in love with the property, gardens, surroundings and position. The property had everything one needs and the process from booking to completion, joining instructions, Rustical support and meet greet were flawless, not to forget the ‘welcome’ bottle of red wine…just lovely. The Rustical team with the owners were wonderful and operate to very very high standards. The property was clean, well kept, and had everything we needed. We will be back for sure."

Reluctant to share my thoughts on this villa as it could not be better and I don't want everyone finding it. The villa is lovely and set in well maintained and very private gardens. The sun room is great when it gets to hot outside. The local area is wonderful for exploring with plenty of good walking routes just outside the front door. The village of Gucin has all the things you need for a relaxing holiday. Excellent restaurants, a great little Deli and a good supermarket. All in all a delightful place to stay."

This is an ideal place for privacy, relaxation, and walking/hiking. We had two glorious weeks in this very comfortable house with wonderful outdoors areas for eating and relaxing. The garden is beautiful and the owners are very good at making sure everything is perfect. We walked to town for groceries, but some might prefer to take a car. We loved being able to pack a lunch and start a walk right from the property, some walks were more rigorous than others. Never went to the beaches, not our thing, but did visit Ronda and a couple of nearby towns. We'll be booking again for next year!"

A wonderful stay was had by us all in this lovely holiday cottage. Drive down track For first time was a bit of a worry ( dirt narrow track) but garden, swimming pool and accomodation made it worth while. A 20 minute up hill hike will take you into the town of Gaucin, would recommend.if you like the peace and tranquility within walking distance of the town of Gaucin."

Just spent a great week at RD74. The villa and its gardens are very private and well kept. The location is ideal if you want peace and quite. A 20 minute walk to the village of Gaucin for bars, restaurants, banks there is also a well stocked supermarket. All in all I would recommend this property as a great place to explore the area or just sit by the pool and relax. The local Rusical Travel staff where also extremely helpful."

Yvonne | September | 2015

Property was very nice, clean and in a secluded setting as described. Road to property however was very poorly maintained and hazardous in some places for a normal vehicle, would suggest an advisory 4 x 4 would be more suitable. Minimal welcome pack, wine, crisps, tea and coffee. No sugar or milk which would have been much appreciated on arrival after drive. Cooking utensils, oven dishes suited to larger families not couples. Overall we had a very pleasant and peaceful holiday in beautiful surroundings, which was exactly what we wanted. Many thanks Pete and Yvonne"

Rustical Update

The track was improved in October 2015 when our team visited the property with a lowish based car (a Fiat 500). It is true that in some areas the drains on the road makes you stay to the side of the track, but we found it perfectly manageable.

We had a lovely time in Gaucin and enjoyed our stay at the property. Samuel | July | 2015

We had a lovely week at the villa in Gaucin. The villa is very comfortable, had everything we needed and felt very authentic and rustic. The garden is really beautiful and we could happily have spent the whole holiday there! Gaucin itself is very pretty and has several really good restaurants - although they are not all open every night so check what days they are open to avoid disappointment! The castle in Gaucin is worth visiting, lots of interesting ruins and great views from the top! We would recommend having a car there as the lane to the villa from Gaucin is quite long to walk but much easier to drive. Also it's worth having a car to visit the surrounding area. Ronda was about 45 mins away and well worth the trip with it's spectacular views!"

We had a great time in Gaucin staying at this cottage. It was very peaceful and the cottage was very clean on arrival. The garden is very nice and well maintained and, being enclosed, it was perfect for our two small children. The pool too was great and we spent most afternoons around and in the pool. There's lots to do in the area and we enjoyed day trips to the beach and Ronda, as well as walking around Gaucin. We'd particularly recommend dinner/lunch at Platero and Co in Gaucin, with its fantastic view from the terrace. Three oberservations. not to be taken as criticisms, are: 1) The property is all on one floor, the pcture makes it look like there is an accesible upstairs. 2) There is no dishwasher. Probably not a problem if plan on eating out lots but a week was about as much washing up and I wished for! 3) There is an open void between the two bedrooms and sounds travels readily between the rooms."

This property offers now a small dishwasher
