Overview
Everybody likes Gaucin village, but you might prefer to verge on the countryside, looking down towards the Mediterranean. A villa with a pool and views, even. This is a particularly good example of what happens when excellence in taste and building combine, and it’s situated at just 3 minutes’ walk (uphill, mind!) to the village proper.
This thoroughly stylish villa has plus points everywhere you look. To begin with, the accommodation is first class. Rooms are harmoniously crafted in classic Mediterranean white and set off by rich colours in terracotta flooring, rugs and decoration.
The generous spaciousness is amplified by natural light spilling through large windows, and the views from these are as good as you’ll find anywhere in Andalucia. Far and wide across the hills and out over the Mediterranean Sea. If you look carefully at our photo of the view, those mountain tops you see in the distance are in Morocco.
The villa has several terraces and stepped rock gardens where you can enjoy the vistas, have drinks or dine al fresco. It’s completely private, even though you're still just part of the village here.
The large, swimming pool situated alongside the villa offers the same views. There’s plenty of sunbathing space around the pool and a sunlounger each is provided. A pool house makes available to bathers a shower and WC.
Behind the villa rises Gaucin’s Hacho mountain.
The villa is built on the hillside with a ground floor and a lower floor. "Wonderfully laid out", commented a previous guest.
There are three bedrooms. The living room is smart and comfortably furnished.
Double-glazed sliding doors open to a large, covered terrace with a dining table. We especially liked the way this terrace is recessed to give a feeling of protected privacy from which to gaze at the view.
A very ample (25 m²) kitchen is open plan with a dining area.
A detail that we liked was, curiously, the lay-out of the utility room. It's really well-made and practical and leads directly out to a clothes-hanging area.
If the 3 minutes' uphill walk to Gaucin’s shops, café-bars and restaurants seems daunting, you can drive there in seconds from your private parking. Note that a large vehicle such as a 4 x 4 is not suitable since the car access is somewhat steep and narrow: but it's perfectly negotiable in a normal-size car with decent power.
All in all, the perfect combination of a very fine Andalusia holiday villa indeed and a fabulous setting. Gaucin has more facilities to offer the visitor than most village destinations in the Ronda mountains and Rustical Travel will send you personal recommendations for restaurants, tapas bars, activities and excursions in the area as one of your holiday documents.
The beaches –and golf for the aficionados– of the Costa del Sol are just half an hour away and walking opportunities abound. Gaucin itself has some wonderful walks (we’ll send you a sample) and not far away are three Natural Parks: Sierra de Grazalema, Los Alcornocales and Sierra de las Nieves.
Location
Whitewashed village on top of a hill in the Ronda mountains area with views down to the sea.
On the edge of the white village of Gaucin (shopping, tapas bars, banks, restaurants) 3 minutes walk away (uphill) from village. The access is steep and narrow at places, so possibly best to hire an ordinary car and avoid large vehicles or tiny ones with low engine power.
Prices
Rustical Travel charges in Euros, VAT is included, no surcharges apply.

We loved this house. It's in a fabulous location, with gorgeous, uninterrupted views. It's at the edge of the village, so it feels completely private but is a short walk away from restaurants etc. That said, we hardly left the house as the pool and the terrace were so lovely."
+ Read moreWhat a wonderful villa! We loved being able to walk into town in a couple of minutes and enjoy uninterrupted views across the amazing countryside. The house is perfect for a large family, well laid out and equipped. We would definitely stay again."
+ Read moreA fabulous place, great location, easy walk into the village. We've stayed in many villa's around Gaucin over the years and this is the best by far."
+ Read moreLovely villa - so peaceful and exclusive but just a few minutes walk from facilities in this beautiful village. Spotlessly clean and yet homely - full of character. Very well appointed kitchen and bathroom facilities. The pool was most welcome after long, hot walks - what a delightful oasis to return to. The bars and restaurants in the village are well worth a visit - reasonable prices and good, friendly service - need to book. Walking opportunities locally are great - put Wikiloc on your phone."
+ Read moreThe villa was beautiful and overall we enjoyed our stay. We particularly enjoyed the large pool, and the stunning views. The internet was fine for general use. Everyone was very helpful. There was a small grocery store within walking distance, the house was very private. Very handy to have a washing machine and dishwasher. The house was very clean. It was hot at night and could do with some air conditioning in the main bedroom. The bedrooms below were cooler for sleeping. There was loud construction noise from the town which was audible inside the house and pool area from 7.30am every day except Sunday. When we arrived late Saturday night there was no hand soap and village shops shut on a Sunday, we did think for the price of the villa a couple of bars of soap at least would have been provided or warn us so we could have brought some. The gardens were beautiful and well maintained."
Rustical Update
In late August 2024, the local manager confirmed that a parking area was built in the village, and this building work is now finished.
2nd week of our Andalusia stay having had a week in Ronda beforehand. Decided to stay in a smaller town i.e. Gaucin with a more rural outlook. The villa was ideal with huge rooms offering fantastic views south to Gibraltar. Good facilities but a few more wine glasses would have been helpful. The grounds of the villa are extensive, the pool a great size allowing a good swim. A bit chilly in the morning (early May) but lovely in the afternoon sun. The villa grounds are beautifully maintained with lovely trees and plants, there were so many places to sit and while away the hours relaxing. Good local walks as well with way marked routes from just outside the place. Gaucin is nice, not so much to do but some really nice eateries offering excellent food, wines and beers. The Castle and convent area is lovely with superb views. If interested in nature, there is great birdwatching from the balcony and we were pleased to witness a honey buzzard migration (approx 1000 birds) on one of the days. Local griffon vultures nest on the cliffs below to the side of the villa. The only negative thing to say is that it is rural so a lot of dogs that basically live in the grounds of nearby houses and they do bark most of the day and through the night. Rustical are a great company to deal with, booking process and information provision excellent."
+ Read moreLovely house with wonderful pool. The layout of the house is very practical and the views from the terraces are lovely. Some of the beds were really comfortable. We had some issues with things not working (lights, shower head, a broken parasol, general cleaning...) but Esther addressed everything promptly. The access by car is not a relaxing experience, and it's rather a steep walk, but we managed every time."
Rustical Update
In October 2024, we were informed that the town hall improved some streets and made them slightly wider, and there is now an easier alternative way to drive to this property.
We had the best stay at this villa in Gaucin, the villa is AMAZING! The views were stunning, you can never be bored with them. The villa has everything you need and more in all areas. The pool and garden area was again stunning, there was always a sunny or shady area to relax, the pool is the perfect size. I highly recommend this villa and if I ever get the chance I would book again :)"
+ Read moreExcellent facilities and brilliant views. 3rd visit here, would highly recommend. Pool amazing."
+ Read moreWe wanted peace and quiet and the house gave us that. Lovely views. I love cooking and the kitchen was big with super views and lots of light. The only problem was a week was too short! Next time it’ll be 2 ."
+ Read moreWe loved the home and the village. Sadly, we had the one rainy week of the past several months, but we still had a great time. We ate at severa of the amazing restaurants in Gaucin and made some great day trips - to Ronda, Malaga and Gibraltar. The house is very comfortable. A great week!"
+ Read moreAbsolutely beautiful house with an amazing pool and wonderful views! The garden is lovely - we particularly liked the frogs plopping into the little pond! The house is well equipped and spotless, very welcoming. The town has some great places to eat and there are fabulous day trips to be done."
+ Read moreExcellent booking service and especially all the information sent by email about the property and the area and other general information for our stay. Very pleased we had a rep to guide us to villa location as we would have had so much trouble finding it. The location and views were first class as was cleanliness and ambiance. Thank you very much."

+ Read moreReally great stay. The villa is lovely and the views are unbelievable. Really enjoyed relaxing by the swimming pool and on the balcony. Gaucin is a nice village with plenty of eating options and friendly people. Overall fantastic holiday and we’d love to go back"
+ Read moreWe wish we'd stayed longer! Absolutely wonderful villa in beautiful Gaucin. Just a stunning setting with views from every part of the house and gardens. Very comfortable beds. Great kitchen although could consider a sharper set of knives. We did day trips to Ronda, Tarifa and Grazalema. Pool was a bit too cool to use in early November but the days were sunny and warm.Staying here was the highlight of our 3 weeks around Andalucia."
+ Read moreA fabulous villa - relaxed, informal, light and spacious. Made more special by the stunning views to Gibralter, the med and to the Atlas Montains in Morocco. Gaucin itself is a quaint village - with lots of bars and restaurants - all of which seem to have a haphazard approach to opening times - which makes it rather fun. Lots of lovely walks in the area - giving different perspectives of the village and all with magnificent views. Well worth a visit."
+ Read moreThis year was our second visit to this villa and as previously we were not disappointed. The villa is fantastic and contains everything you could wish for. The village itself is lovely and full of very friendly people who were always happy to pass the time of day. We spent more time eating out at the local bar/restaurants this year and we're not disappointed. The standard of food was excellent and not over priced either. The villa and grounds are well maintained and we were fortunate to be there when the plum tree was in full fruit. Nothing better than fruit fresh from the tree! The gardener deserves special mention, not just for keeping the grounds in good order but also for being very friendly. I can see us returning to this haven of tranquility again."
+ Read moreFantastic house, outside spaces, pool, views and location! This was a lovely spacious house with character, secluded with fantastic views but very conveniently at the edge of the village with a small supermarket nearby and a variety of nice restaurants. The pool was nice and big and a great area to lounge around (temperature was ok for swimming at the end of May but not quite warm enough for bobbing around). Driving down to the house is prettty exciting if you're not used to small, steep, narrow roads, I enjoyed the challenge but if you're not a confident driver you probably won't! The only suggestion I would have is some new kitchen knives as the current ones are a bit past it. All in all a fabulous house and we would definitely book it again if we return to this part of Spain."
+ Read moreExcellent villa. Property was exactly as shown in photographs. Villa was in exceptional condition and contained everything you could think of. Plenty of crockery and cutlery etc. Views were amazing. By day we are out over the hills to Gibraltar and beyond whilst at night the sky came to life with an abundance of stars. The pool was amazing and provided a welcome re!ief from the heat of the day. Plenty of sunbeds. The gardens were well maintained with the friendly gardener being on plot most days. The villa was ideally situated for the local shops etc. I would definitely recommend this villa and would not hesitate to book it again. The service from the local letting agents was brilliant as well. We did not have transport and when the airport taxi could not get down the narrow streets, Brad was on hand to help out both then and when we were leaving again. Excellent service. Wish I lived there!!!!!!"
+ Read moreWe were delighted with all aspects of our stay in Gaucin over new year. The house enjoys fabulous views over a verdant undulating landscape with the Rock of Gibralta and Moroccan mountains clearly visible in the distance. Each of the three bedrooms, main living space and of course the fabulous balcony enjoys this wonderful south facing view. The house was very warm and comfortable - perfect for relaxing. We made full use of the very well equipped kitchen and were able to eat lunch on the balcony every day in spite of it being early January. Rustical Travel's instructions and welcome pack were extremely comprehensive and the key holder's couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful in guiding us to the property. We found everything we needed in the town and didn't need to travel further afield for shopping. The local butcher is worth a special mention and is able to supply, amongst other meats, great quality local lamb and young kid. We had a great time."
+ Read moreJust to let you know we had a great time in Gaucin and the villa was fantastic. For once the on line picture did not do the villa justice (!). Thank you for your help and suport. All the best."
+ Read moreA fabulous holiday in a fantastic villa. We will try and return."
+ Read moreOur holiday was all that I had hoped for, a haven to spend relaxed time with the children. In fact the villa and pool we're relaxing we spent little time away from it. We enjoyed our daily walks into the village and once Andras showed us the art of manoeuvring the car out around the bends we took one or two day trips. We visited Gaucin 21 years ago and were reassured to see that it still hold it's same beauty and charm. We especially liked that the house was a 'home' and not kitted out from top to bottom with IKEA. A big hit with us all."
+ Read moreLoved the villa - our second time there. Keyholder was very helpful. Only minus point would be the quality of the beds - some are not quite up to the standard you expect when paying what is a fair amount of money. The view can't be beaten, though."
