Overview
Comfort and style abound in this two-bedroomed "house with a view".
It's also especially peaceful as the street is closed to traffic (free street parking while you are here is just around the corner).
The atmosphere created inside is welcoming, pastel colours complemented by equally soft, indirect lighting. Good decisions on fabrics work together with old restored doors, beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and details like Moroccan tiled tables to achieve the kind of harmonious balance that allows you to feel immediately at home. Decoration is appropriate and attractive, mainly in the form of paintings by local artists.
The house is arranged on two floors and ends at a roof terrace with views, which also has a sunshade.
You come in to an inviting sitting room with comfortable room for four people. It has a wood burning stove for cooler months. Separated by an archway is the dining area, although for less formal meals you may prefer the interior patio, which is reached via a spacious and well-equipped kitchen.
The fresh, whitewashed patio is typically Andalusian. Breakfasts here feel very civilized! And it has a nice plunge pool for later in the day when the temperature peaks.
Upstairs there are two en suite bedrooms, each very pleasant and full of traditional character. Bedroom 1 has its own small terrace looking onto Gaucin’s mountain scenery: a fantastic spot to wake up in the morning and breathe in the fresh air. Bedroom 2 receives plenty of natural light from two windows.
Up a few steps from the bedrooms, the roof terrace is excellent for sunbathing or relaxing with a drink, admiring views of the village, the castle and the distinctive rocky ridge above it. In the distance you can see the Straits and Rock of Gibraltar.
Gaucin is a great base for day trips. Historic Ronda, just 40 minutes away, is high on most people’s list, but smaller places closer by – traditional villages such as Genalguacil or Jimena de la Frontera – are well worth a visit and stopping by for a meal. Gibraltar is an hour away and the beaches of the Costa del Sol 35 minutes.
For those keener on walking than driving, there is some great trekking around Gaucin.
Location
Whitewashed village on top of a hill in the Ronda mountains area with views down to the sea.
Quiet street in the village of Gaucin (most facilities). Free street parking is close by.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely house in fantastic location. Would happily stay here again."
+ Read moreHi Website and booking process excellent. Info sent on the property such as local info and directions very good Property contact very helpful. Property itself was excellent and Gaucin was lovely. There were a lot of wasps was the only slight issue and that's beyond anyone's control. Regards Rob Griffith"
+ Read moreVery enjoyable in a close location to village centre. Cosy apartment complete with wifi in a quite street. Good value for money. Two bed apartment. Easy to book and a lovely host on arrival"
+ Read moreThe house was very homely and well equipped with little extras like ice in the freezer, frozen cup holders. The three outdoor spaces all offered something different, with exceptional views from the first floor. Stress free parking for a Spanish village, glorious walks from the door, Casares Costa beach only 30 minutes away and the restaurants in the village were amazing. A variety of birds visible from the cottage, eagles, vultures and hundreds of swifts"

+ Read moreThis is the second time we have hired this property and it's perfect for two. We knew the location and what the property offered. Would have liked full length cusions for the two loungers on the roof terrace. Gaucin has enough eating places to vary your evenings out, so other than breakfast and some lunches we didnt eat in, although there are plenty of pots, pans etc etc. We have never had a bad meal in the village, would recommend booking to avoid disapointent, as most places are busy or only accommodate certain numbers. The local shop and the larger supermarket have everything you should need. Looking forward to returning early next year to walk some of the local trails, it was far to hot this time, in mid July, the splash pool is a bonus for a small townhouse."
+ Read moreWe had a wonderful holiday at RD14 Gauchin. Great location in centre of village close to local shop for provisions and tapas bars and restaurants. The locals are very friendly. The property, like the village, is full of Spanish character and charm and the views from all three balconies/roof tops are amazing - views right across to Morocco and Gibralter and across the roof-tops to the Castle in Gauchun which was lit-up at night. The steps are steep from ground floor to first floor and roof-top but that kept us fit in between all of the relaxation! Splash pool is all you need to cool off during the heat of the day. We also managed to travel down to the coast to go Whale watching from Tarifa and also visited Gibralter. Both within two hours from property. Rustical Travel were as usual very helpful and efficient in providing trip advice and travel arrangements for property. Still feeling the benefits of our holiday which was three week's ago! Julia"
+ Read moreHi - This house was perfect in every respect. Gaucin is a beautiful village in the mountains with fantastic walks in every direction. Some details mention it's a 30 minute drive to the coast but with the mountain roads it's more like an hour. Casares is a lovely stop half way up or down. The house is very tranquil and in a quiet location of the village with a very handy shop a stone's throw away. The three terraces all work in their own different ways - the ground floor terrace was perfect for barbequing as the kitchen is next to it. It also has a plunge pool, though in late-September it was getting quite chilly despite the 30 degree sun. The terrace off the bedroom is cozy and has amazing views down the valley. The rooftop terrace has views to the castle and is perfect for sunbathing as it's very secluded. The house itself is beautifully furnished in a rustic style and the master bedroom in particular was stunning with a lovely view of the village from the window. The kitchen is roomy and well equipped though the frying pans could do with an upgrade. The keyholder is just round the corner and replaced the calor gas the morning it ran out within a few hours so very handy if you had any problems with the accommodation. All in all, this house is perfect if you want a quiet break. The village has some great bars and restaurants too. Five stars ***** ."
+ Read moreThis is the second time we have stayed in this property. The house is absolutely lovely. It's in a fabulous location within the village and Gaucin is a perfect place to stay with young children. We were greeted by Ines when we arrived and she ensured we were settled in nicely. The house was perfectly clean and very well looked after. It was nice to see that the plunge pool now has an automated filling pump which refreshes some of the water on a daily basis. We'd certainly rate the property at 10 out of 10 and we hope to return again in a few years time."
+ Read moreOur second visit to this lovely property. Well-equipped, it was Ideal for us, and the village is so lovely and quiet, yet centrally placed for lots of day trips. Good information provided by Rustical Travel and the caretaker was charming and very easy to find! Thank you"
+ Read moreHouse was lovely, very clean and was everything we had hoped for. The key holder was not in when we went for the key but it was on their door with directions to the house. All our dealings with Rustica Travel were first class and we would definitely use you again. Thank you for everything."
+ Read moreWe found the RusticalTravel web site to be very good and informative. We also found the booking process and the way we were kept updated also very good. The information provided prior to departure, to find our property and also the key holders property was also excellent and helps a lot after a days travelling. We found the property just as described and was not disappointed in any way. As a couple, we relaxed for the whole week sunbathing on the roof terrace and eating out at night, fitting in some of the local walks through the nature reserve area on the Ronda road out of the village. We found all the eating places very good indeed for both Tapas and evening meals. Some places are more expensive than others, but found the "cheaper" ones were excellent. We found Gaucin to be just what we wanted/needed for our weeks holiday and if someone can put pressure on the "powers to be" to improve the road up from the coast it would be even better, the drive up is not for the faint hearted or Sunday driver, due to its condition and subsidence. The village seems to have a lot of "ex-pats" but still retains its Spanish charm. The shops in the village have more than enough produce and goods for the self caterer and we would not bother stopping at the larger super market in the coastal village, which we did on this occasion. We would definitely go back to the village and also the property."
Rustical Update
In the summer of 2017, the road up to Gaucin from the coast underwent restoration works, so it is now in good condition.
