Overview

Those who want the feel of a genuine Andalusian farmhouse, but with added comforts, will find this a natural choice.

The house is rustic and simple with facilities that complement its country style.

The views from the house, terraces and pool are spectacular.

Indoors facilities such as WiFi and a TV are provided, but it is the outdoor life that both climate and surroundings invite you to make the most of.

At this totally private location, the infinity-style swimming pool is a special delight. Not only does it present uninterrupted views down through the mountains, but it's also nicely integrated in the dramatic landscape.

One terrace runs along the front of the house and the living room opens naturally out onto it.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with dishwasher and even has the farmhouse’s original bread oven. You can dine inside or out on one of the terraces, in sun or shade, as you wish.

There are three bedrooms, the first downstairs, and separate sets of stairs (a little low for some: mind your head!) lead up to the other two bedrooms. The rooms are neat and intimate. 

The village of Colmenar (10 minutes' drive) provides facilities to meet all common requirements, including restaurants to enjoy very reasonably priced meals. We will send you our recommendations, as well as ideas for activities and daytrips.

The villa is reached down a 2.5 km rural track in good condition. Locations like this offer the advantages of the Axarquia – the tranquillity of country life, proximity to Malaga and the coast –without the traffic and concentration of people that have grown up around other more popular inland destinations. However, as the track to the house is rural and relatively long, some guests may not feel like going out for dinners on a daily basis.

The Axarquia, which reaches inland from the Mediterranean coast at Malaga, is a magnet for sun seekers. It has drawn a community of Europeans to live the quiet life alongside local Spanish people, whose sweet wine and dried raisins have benefitted from the same sun that warms and tans the visitor.

Sandy beaches are an obvious attraction, but don’t miss out on La Axarquia's inland points of interest: historical Antequera, for example, or walking round the striking rock formations in Torcal Natural Park.

Montes de Malaga pine forests is also nearby and offer good walking options with views over the Mediterranean sea.

We had an excellent week's break at property AX13 in mid October and enoyed surprisingly good weather for the time of year and altitude. We spent a lot of time outside on the terrace studying the glorious views and watching for wildlife in the valley below us, and watching the goats, and goatherd in the evenings. Although the very helpful owners declared the pool to be too cold to use, I was swimming on most days. The owners met us in Colmenar and thankfully guided us to the villa in the dark which was very much appreciated, as were the initial food supplies which we had requested at very short notice. The owners were most helpful, but not intrusive. There are plenty of day trips in the close area:- Comares, Antequera, Lake Vinuela and over the pass to Alhama de Granada, and the beautiful national park just south of the villa, Montes de Malaga. The villa has a tradional and rustic feel but is full of all modern equipment and is very comfortable, having large shower rooms for each of the three bedrooms. The villa is certainly remote and very peaceful and visitors should be aware that it is at the end of quite a challenging two to three kilometre track, and we would recommend renting a 4x4 if possible. To summarise, we would definitely consider a return visit to AX13. In addition, we found Rustical Travel to be by far the best and most efficient agents we have dealt with in our many visits to Spanish villas and French gites."

We had a fabulous holiday in this Villa, It was very quiet and tranquil with a wonderful pool to cool off in. The house itself was very comfortable and well equipped. The owners were also very efficient and helpful with helping us find the property and any queries we had regarding the area and property. What a fantastic property! We've just had one of the most relaxing holidays at this idyllic house. It's in a really beautiful, peaceful location with the only distraction being the occasional goats passing by. The owners are really lovely and give lots of good tips for the local area. I think the house guide is one of the best I've seen. I can't recommend this property highly enough if you want to relax and unwind in beautiful countryside. Just one tip being in the mountains, you may want to consider hiring a four by four.
