Overview

Avoid the coastal crowds and enjoy divine countryside tranquillity at this good-looking holiday property in sunny Malaga. With views that go as far as the sea, you are also only a short drive away from pretty, typical-Andalusian, white-washed villages.

Holidays here feel like a peaceful retreat with plenty of time for relaxing, enjoying the views, dips in the pool and family barbecues. Going out for a day at the beach is also easy and only a stone´s throw away.
The casita itself is pleasant and attractive; it is also practically arranged on one floor with hardly any steps. The pool, its furnished terrace and shaded areas as well as the parking spot are just a few metres from each other, meaning everything is conveniently at hand.

The access to the house is perhaps a bit bumpy and steep but the first impression doesn´t count as everyone seems to get used to it straight away. You don´t need a 4x4; an ordinary car will do, albeit one with high clearance. What you get in exchange is a very private spot with stunning views and a great level of seclusion.

Although there are other houses dotted about in the surrounding hills, you get a great sense of remoteness. Those seeking for privacy should be pleased with this holiday spot.
On arrival, the first impression is that of a property that is noticeably well-maintained. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are kept nicely neat and tidy, and you will find a good level of standard throughout.

Don´t expect super king-sized beds or a dishwasher; instead, rely upon having all the basics for an enjoyable holiday, including WiFi, a lovely illuminated pool by night and some extras like a welcome food hamper for you on arrival.

The overall style indoors is simple and uncluttered with rustic furnishings and details. Ceilings have exposed wooden beams that give the house a certain charm and personality. The shaded outside terrace is great for al fresco meals.

Take a short, 10 minute drive through the countryside, and find yourself in the postcard village of Competa, a genuine, white-washed town which has attracted visitors from all over the world for years for its climate and its genuine and unspoilt Andalusian feel – a truly laid back lifestyle primes on these hills.

The area is well known for its raisins… the extraordinary amount of sunlight Malaga receives makes it the perfect production setting for these delicacies. Sweet wines are also highly recognised, owed to a certain grape that grows in this climate.

There are some good walks in the area for keen walkers too, although in the peak of summer you may find the temperatures are too high to stay under the sun. Spending a day brushed by sea breeze is a great alternative that is only 30 minutes away.

Location

Setting

Rolling hills in the warm and sunny Axarquia region.

Location

In open countryside. About 2 kms from village of Sayalonga and 3.5 kms from Competa. Access via 1 km unmade road. The last part of the track (about 80 metre) into the villa is steepish and bumpy; an ordinary car with high clearance is what we recommend (e.g. Fiat Doblo, Volkswagen Caddy, Peugeot Partner).

The nature and views."

This was our 2nd rustical travel holiday and it was really hard not to compare it to last years, which was outstanding (RD39) The good: the views are incredible, the sunsets beautiful and we loved sitting out at night watching shooting stars. There are villas dotted around nearby but it still feels private and peaceful. Villa is well equipped and we loved the pool, great size and very deep - a welcome relief from the heat! Great base to explore, not far from the beautiful Nerja and Frigliana. The not so good: the road to the villa is essentially an incredibly uneven, narrow dirt track with a sheer drop to one side. We never got used to it and when they say you need a car with high clearance, they mean it. We knew there was no aircon when we booked but some nights were particularly uncomfortable. The pool lights weren't working so night time swimming felt risky! The WiFi was not working for the duration of our stay, despite reporting on day 1. With a 12 year old in tow, it was not ideal, especially during the hottest part of the day when he wanted to hide from the heat and had read all his books. Also, just a heads up - the mosquitos were particularly ravenous!"

The tranquility of the location, the amazing views (particularly the sunsets and night skies). Very simple but catering to every need. The journey to get there was always well worth the views. The booking system worked well and efficiently."

A lovely warm welcome from Vikki started our two week stay, So peaceful and quiet. Exactly what we both needed after a couple of very strange years. The property has a good feel about it. The views are quite stunning. Almost 360 degrees of majestic gorgeous-ness. Swimming in the sparkly pool felt like swimming in silk. Divine. We completed a few walks into Competa and Sayalonga, all very good, but even better to return 'home' to AX34. Thank you Rustical Travel."

Barry | October | 2021

I couldn't fault the property, it was lovely, with amazingly views all around and still very private. The villa has everything you need, plus the welcome basket was a very nice extra touch. My only criticism, is that the access is very poor, with a very steep dirty track with lots of pot holes and not particularly safe driving it at night, an SUV or 4x4 is really needed."

I rented the finca to do 2 photoshoots: this place was excellent for this! Garden, pool, terrace, flowers, grapes and free view over the valley (as background! Privacy as well. And, of course the good weather: but with that it's depending on the season...."

Loved the amazing setting with beautiful views and fantastic pool. House was also nicely decorated. Glad to be forewarned of the road to get there but once we’d done this once it wasn’t a problem and wouldn’t put us off returning. Only improvement I’d like would be aircon otherwise perfect."

The villla was lovely and it couldn’t have been in a more gorgeous location. It was lovely and clean and the gentleman looking after it was so friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend it - we had a fabulous time."

The property itself was lovely and the views were absolutely spectacular. I have only one caveat I never quite got used to the 'road' into the villa which I always found a bit daunting. Other than that, it was a perfect week!"

Many thanks to Kevin Janet for being accommodating letting us get into the villa early as we had set off much earlier than planned from our previous stop to beat the worst of the Spanish heat wave. Also thanks to Kevin for putting me and some of the luggage off the bike into his car so that my partner could negotiate the track solo for the first time. It’s a bit daunting to start with but we coped fine with it on a daily basis. This is a beautiful property in a beautiful location. It is very well equipped and clearly a well loved family holiday home. One criticism would be that it could do with air con or failing that some insect screens on the front windows so that these can also be thrown open to let the air circulate better. Other than that fabulous."
