Overview

There are certain holiday properties that we feel totally confident about and this is one of them. Carefully and thoughtfully looked after by a very amiable local couple who are aware of professional standards and what our clients are looking for, it provides just about everything you might have at home and often miss on holiday, unless you opt for a luxury-priced villa.

Details such as extra pillows, a special bowl for popcorn, even a sewing kit and bottle of wine as a welcome: a lot of consideration goes into making your stay here a very satisfactory one.

The house is not particularly large (we thought four people would be more comfortable than six, so it sleeps up to 4 + 2 children), just very well put together.

Neat and well presented, the villa is welcoming, cheerfully decorated and better equipped than most properties in this range, especially in the kitchen, which has a Smeg fridge.

Access is easy, along a short dirt path. The villa gates open to a carport for two cars.

The accommodation is all on one floor, of easy access from parking and also easy to pass from indoors to the exterior terrace, and so relatively suitable for everyone irrespective of mobility.

Safety for children is built into the design, too. A bright conservatory lounge (most people’s favourite spot) has sliding glass doors which open it up to the pool terrace, which may be convenient for parents with little ones.

There are three bedrooms. They have insect-netting, shutters, curtains, wardrobe space and bedside lamps.

Bathrooms are of boutique hotel standard.

When we visited in November 2014, new viscoelastic mattresses had just been bought for the Master bedroom and one of the twin bedrooms. A sitting test found them to be very comfy and the same went for the armchairs in the sitting room.

The sitting room is cozy, as you can see in the photos, and it’s the conservatory lounge looking out to the pool that’s most used for dining in or watching TV. The windows have blinds that you can lower if the sun is strong.

The pool terrace not only has a shaded pergola (furnished for four people), it has a tremendous, unspoilt view out west, all the way to the Sierra de las Nieves.

You’re unlikely to tire of gazing out over those rolling, olive-planted hills. The sunsets looking west are a treat (see photo gallery).

If you want to cook out on the terrace, a gas-fired barbecue is provided.

Check the location on the map and you’ll see why there are other good reasons why people like coming here.

It’s close enough to Andalucia’s star attractions without being too far from the coast and beaches, 45 minutes to the south.

Directly north is the Natural Park of El Torcal, where signposted walks guide you through the unworldly landscape of its granite massif.

Just the other side of El Torcal is Antequera town, unusually rich in churches and other historical monuments. It also has some sophisticated restaurants.

Venture further and you come to major cultural attractions: Granada, Cordoba and Seville, all within day trip reach. Granada’s Alhambra palaces, Cordoba’s ancient mosque, Seville’s Giralda tower and fiesta spirit are unrepeatable.

Closer still is Malaga, where the Alcazaba fortress and Picasso Museum will interest many, while others will vote for the Mediterranean beaches.

The villa is in a sparsely populated neighbourhood of villas set a discreet distance from each other. The villa enjoys good privacy, with a 5,000 m² belt of land around it, but you can see other houses aways off, so we wouldn’t call it secluded.

The nearest facility is a little supermarket 7 minutes walk away. Other shops, a bakery, and bar-restaurants are less than 10 minutes’ drive in two nearby villages. Have a full meal or choose from a list of tapas: it’s an informal, interesting way of dining.

A top-class fish restaurant and major shopping are to be found in Casabermeja half an hour from the villa.

The villa owners live just 10 minutes away and are on hand should need them, although they do all they can to ensure that you already have everything you need to make the holiday go very well indeed.

YOUR REVIEWS

Doug | July | 2023

Fantastic stay, owners friendly and helpful. Rustical travel were great as always. Villa needs some minor updating. Main bed has cable ties that remain sharp, one toilet had loose mounts. First aid box was lacking nearly everything, fire extinguisher, only one tucked away and still in wrapping. No life ring by the pool, pool has some loose grouting- not a problem but could become a tripping hazard. Bedding was changed but cotton sheets for polyester, a minor detail but when the temperature increased during our stay you noticed the difference. These did not lessen the great holiday we had, just felt more commercial than homely."

The villa was just perfect and Coqui and Juan Ramon have really thought of everything for a perfect stay. There is now a great addition to the poolside, a huge outdoor bed that Linda and I spent most of our time there in the sun.I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your understanding and thoughtfulness when for 2 years running we had to cancel - I just have to say, it was worth the wait.

A beautiful property, setting and experience. Coqui and Juan Ramon were the perfect hosts, welcoming and reassuringly close at hand, but also respectful of privacy and peace and quiet. The photos don't do the views justice, and the outside space offered a number of places to sit and relax and enjoy the view. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms are great. Car is a must, but it's worth it to get up into the mountains and enjoy the view!!"

This is a really beautiful house - even better than it looks in the photos! The pool is wonderful and the views from the terrace are stunning. The house is so well equipped with everything that you could need for a great ‘home from home’ stay. We spent most of our time outdoors, but the conservatory is also great for relaxing in the evening. The owners were so helpful and friendly too - they brought an extra fan for us and left a bottle of wine and a home-cooked tortilla to welcome us. They also came to refresh linens and clean the pool half way through our stay. This area of Spain is very quiet, but it is not far to travel to El Torcal, Antequera and Malaga. We loved watching the local goat-herd walking past every evening with the goat bells ringing! As another reviewer said - the local dogs tend to bark a lot, but we didn’t mind that at all. We would recommend this property to anyone and hope to return one day. We also recommend Rustical Travel - we have booked twice with this company now and they are professional and helpful - even sending local area guides before your trip."

Andrew | May | 2016

Lovely secluded villa.. Excellent value for money. Cool house but sun room perfect as doors slide open so can enjoy heat but not be in it. Owners very helpful and replaced a sun shade/canopy. Good enough supermarket and restaurants in nearby village although you have to remember Spanish opening times! Slightly noisy dogs around but bedroom window shutters ensure peaceful sleep. Just loved standing beside the pool admiring the views. Even saw a hoopoe flying passed! Would highly recommend this villa if you want seclusion and rest. Rustical Travel very helpful in all preparations etc."
