Notes on layout

Although this property may be consider by people with reduce mobility as it is all mainly arranged on one floor and the pool has a gentle ramp to get in, please note that there is still the ocassional steps like for instance to walk into the master bedroom which is a slightly lower level than the rest of the house.

There are 2 bathrooms and the master bedroom has an additional bathtub.

Overview

After having visited villas in Las Alpujarras for over 15 years, we are pleased to find new and attractive holiday properties which are, simply put, homes we would love to stay in ourselves.

The house looks simple from the outside as the owners intentionally maintained its traditional shepherd’s cottage facade. But it is now a wonderfully renovated home in an olive grove, with its past stamped on the outside and a real liveliness on the inside.

Its modest facade contrasts with what it actually offers: facilities and comfort you would expect in a luxury house... we really like the understated way this property shows its own sophistication.

It is an easy-going, relaxing and comfortable home; easy to get to and easy to stay in. With the entire property spread out on one level, moving around is natural and pleasant. The pool even has a gentle ramp that slowly invites you in.

The long, 12 metre pool was thoughtfully built for both fitness laps and relaxing or cooling off.

The view is stunning and the spot is ideal for holidays as the surroundings have a very rural feel to it (think goat bells jingling in the distance) yet a lively town is very close by.

Great beaches are only 30 minutes away, where you can find good, fairly-priced fish bars. But there are other excellent day-out options as well. Visit the magic of La Alhambra Palace or the higher, little villages in Alpujarras for some of the most fascinating Mediterranean, high-mountain scenery you´ve ever seen.

All details have been designed with quality holidays in mind, both indoors and outdoors. The decor used delightfully mixes modern and rustic styles, and its large windows invite plenty of light through. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and the small isle is great for meal preps or pre-meal conversations.

On our visit and evaluation of the property, the house ticked all the boxes, presenting itself as a good bet for your holidays: good kitchenware, quality mattresses and bedding, an additional fridge for cooling lots of drinks, a great dossier with local information which seems to be pretty up-to-date.

The standards are kept to good levels and it truly felt like a home made with love, not a soulless rental property.

The master bedroom is superior in standard, slightly bigger than the others, and benefits from a bathtub in the room which gives a romantic feel to it.

Being child-friendly has also been taken into consideration when creating this country home. Generally speaking, and as long as little ones are properly supervised, we consider this property to be fairly safe for children. The pool is gated, there is an ample shallow end (4x4 metres) and the grounds are flat without sheer drops, something relatively uncommon for some villas in this area.

For the nature-minded, take your kids to the nearby river and help them create small river dips surrounded by stones... an all exciting adventure!

The pool cabin is also a great addition the outdoor space. Prepared with mosquito nets, chill out on its comfortable pillows, pick up a mat and practice some yoga or simply take a relaxing siesta, Spanish-style.

Although you are not completely on your own as this is a neighbourhood villa, you are not directly overlooked by other properties which means you can enjoy the privacy many take pleasure in when holidaying.

We must also describe the view: if you look to the south the dramatic Sierra Lujar rises up, to the north you spot the picture-book whitewashed villages of Alpujarras scattered over massive Sierra Nevada over 3,000 metres.

Most months you see snow pockets in the distance up the mountains; the scenery is unbeatable and what makes it even more exciting is that down here at this valley, the climate is semi tropical. Orange trees and avocados thrive and the Mediterranean Sea is almost round the corner from you, guaranteeing good temperatures for longer periods during the year.

Orgiva town is close by; if you are a walker, take a country lane straight up to this lively town in about 25 minutes.

For shopping or dinners out its best to take your car, but walking up is certainly a great idea for a day-time stroll. Other walks from your door step take you deeper into the valley where the river gets wilder before it meets a massive lake / reservoir.
