Overview

One of five high class, self catering apartments hidden amidst pine forests in an impressive mountain estate. It’s private, tranquil and the views reach to the Mediterranean on clear days.

These are some of the most elegant holiday apartments in La Alpujarra. Amongst the first accommodation to be built locally for quality lets, they have a certain grandeur and offer a taste of the very best in Alpujarra architecture in a spectacular setting.

The estate is situated at an altitude of 1,500 metres and easily accessed from a maintained forestry track between the villages of Pitres and Capileira. Built entirely of local stone and incorporating a significant element of carpentry in chestnut work by the master craftsman owner, the individual apartments are distributed over an extensive area and look out onto mature gardens planted with flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns.

Each apartment is designed to enjoy a measure of privacy with its own patio, terrace, or courtyard, and despite being part of a complex, each serves as a romantic retreat thanks to the way the property is laid out. In fact, the word "complex" hardly does justice to these superb country farmhouse apartments. They were designed by an expert on Moorish architecture and built by pioneers in quality restorations in La Alpujarra: you can expect the very best in local architecture preservation.

All apartments have the same proud, distinctive and refined style. Although varying a little in size, capacity and facilities, they are all very attractively presented and well finished.

AP17(1) is an excellent, ground floor apartment of 50 m², although one of its outstanding features is in fact outside: a private, furnished patio, planted with climbing roses and passion flowers.

Entrance to the apartment is via this patio. The accommodation is very comfortable. An open-plan living-dining room with open fireplace, where a double sofa-bed can sleep 2 children, continues via an attractive archway to a small yet well-equipped and prettily tiled kitchen.

The swimming pool area is situated on one side of the farmhouse, where it cannot disturb any of the guests. It is a large circular affair sitting neatly within a rugged landscape. Although there are solar panels that begin to warm the water from early spring, in our opinion swims are bracing in April and May, but after then it is a real treat. The sun is strong this high up and, especially in the hotter months, swims are very refreshing.

Despite being shared, the pool area remains intimate and inviting. At the back of the pool, a short track connects to the famed European GR-7 footpath which traverses Las Alpujarras, before continuing all the way to Greece.

Beyond and all around the estate spread pine forests in designated Natural Parkland. The relaxing sound of spring water around the farmhouse underlines the tranquillity of this high mountain spot.

A long walk or short drive along the forestry track brings you to Capileira, the most attractive of all the villages in the high Alpujarra in terms of location, facilities, atmosphere and architecture. The same road that leads down to the village goes up to Sierra Nevada National Park. There is excellent hiking along tracks and mule paths, with the summit of Mulhacén (3,481 m) very reachable outside winter months, when the snows are usually too deep.

Trips to Granada and the Alhambra palaces or the beaches of the Costa Tropical make for great days out if you want a change of scene, some cultural excitement, or a day by the Mediterranean.

YOUR REVIEWS

Jane | September | 2019

We really enjoyed having access to wonderful walking trails. The famous GR7 passes right behind the property. The local villages are stunning as is the landscape. If you want to get off the beaten track and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Alpujrarra mountains this is the place. It feels timeless. The apartment was well equipped, the host helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Although there are several apartments here it was very private. The nearest shop for supplies is only 15/20 minutes away (by car) so it was easy to stock up, sit back and enjoy the lovely garden and spectacular views."

Amazing place. Apartment was roomy, towels and linen came regular as clockwork. The walks around were fantastic and we had a relaxing time even with two small kids as there was space outside for them to play. We loved the swimming pool and watching the eagles circling in the updrafts. Would thoroughly recommend it."

We recently booked our 2 week holiday in Andalusia through Rustical Travel. The staff there were very helpful, especially Javier, who answered so many of our email questions.Their holiday documents, which contained information about the area, shops, restaurants, culture and walks were very informative and helpful. The apartment was in a complex of other apartments and although close by there was a high degree of privacy. Our apartment was relaxing, clean and very well equipped. The grounds were stunning, well cared for and with fabulous views. The forest road access to the properties was well maintained. The owner was the perfect host, helpful but not intrusive. He also gave us local information and his knowledge of local walks was fantastic. For us it was the perfect location. There were lovely walks from the complex and in the area.We had some delicious meals at local restaurants and enjoyed sitting in the lovely gardens reading our books or enjoying the views. We have been to Andalusia before so we decided to visit new areas to us,these included Jaen, Baeza and Ubida which were a joy to visit. We would use this apartment again and we would recommend Rustical Travel."

We had a lovely time. It is entirely wonderful. As one of a few very lovely places, this has to be one of the loveliest - fabulous for relaxation and recreation. This outstripped our expectations, even with the great description. All facilities are kept very clean and fresh. The cortijo is very peaceful and the setting and elegant buildings have been lovingly and tastefully designed affording almost total privacy and unenforced encounters with other guests (very limited numbers) so that you feel that you have free run of the pool, gardens. there is also easy mountain walking with fabulous views. We all enjoyed it as an adult family of four and without being disturbed by younger families or other, single guests. It is easily reached, nestling in its own valley and water sources and providing an excellent base to visit villages nearby, cultural sites as well as beaches. Every effort is made by the owner to provide a warm and generous welcome. It would be hard to recommend this place more highly. Really wonderful. And thanks for your efficient and cooperative handling of our booking. We hope we'll find more. Very best wishes and thanks.
