Overview
Located in the beautiful mountain countryside of the high Alpujarras, this well-presented cortijo is a perfect place to relax and immerse yourselves in peaceful, natural surroundings and enjoy the views.
The villa is smart and recently built, employing a pleasingly traditional architecture and style. It's very private and has plenty of outdoor space, including gardens and a filtered swimming pool.
Access is up a track from a road that joins the main local village of Pitres with the quaint old hamlet of Atalbeitar. Pitres or Portugos (2 km by car) are the places for all your shopping needs and there is good fare to be had at inexpensive country restaurants nearby.
There’s also a short-cut to Portugos village via a path (but take a torch and mind the brambles at night) that takes just 10 minutes.
It’s so beautifully quiet up here and the views reach far and wide, especially to the southern coastal mountain range.
The villa was designed with holiday comfort in mind. It offers self-catering accommodation for six guests in three bedrooms with two bathrooms, a large (55 m²) living room and a neat kitchen.
It's a well cared for property and we were pleased to see the local architectural style tastefully reproduced in the striking ceilings of oiled slate and chestnut beams, and smooth tiling underfoot.
Outside, a wide porch is furnished for dining in the shade and the gardens are arranged in two levels, with a swimming pool gated and fenced off in the lower garden.
The swimming pool, which has deep and shallow ends, is fenced and gated off for added safety. There’s plenty of garden space and loungers to lie back and soak up the sun, the views and the country peacefulness.
The place is beautifully secluded and private. To ensure that it stays that way, the owner has now bought the land above and to the rear of the villa, which is gradually being planted with fruit trees.
A network of paths enables you to enjoy some marvellous walks all year. They take you past well-tended market gardens, apple and cherry orchards, isolated farmhouses and the all-important system of acequias (irrigation channels), that keep market gardens and arable land watered and alive.
Only during the hottest hours of the afternoon in high summer, which as everyone knows here in Andalucia is what siestas were invented for, do we suggest you plan only short hikes and cool off instead, rest and enjoy a dip.
The villa’s position, however, on the rise of a hill, means that a gentle breeze often comes to allay the heat.
If you come in the beautiful walking months of early spring and late autumn – and the hiking options are terrific here – there’s central heating and a log fire to keep the place toasty warm if the starry nights turn chilly.
You have two good, small supermarkets in the villages of Portugos and Pitres to choose from and all your normal shopping needs will be met here. We’ll send you a detailed local guide with useful information for the area before you travel.
The guide will tell you about local attractions such as the Poqueira Gorge, give you tips for restaurants, and booking information for the Alhambra if you plan to visit Granada.
You have private parking in the driveway, with room for up to 4 cars.
Location
South-facing Mediterranean mountain valley. Las Alpujarras region (southern slopes of Sierra Nevada).
In a private location at the end of an 800-metre track, 2 km from Pitres or Portugos (most facilities). Ten-minute walk to Portugos as long as the path is clear.

A lovely secluded villa in a beautiful area. Lots of places to explore nearby though you need a decent car to manage the road/track down to the villa! Would definitely return. Rustical Travel and Alberto were really helpful and on hand for any questions."
+ Read moreWe had such a wonderful time at this lovely house! Initially when we arrived at the marketplace in the village we could not get a hold of Alberto to drive us to the property but a quick phone call to the travel agency sorted things in no time - Alberto's phone had no connection and we were earlier than expected! The house is absolutely wonderful, quiet and tranquil with all things needed present - even the fresh veg and fruit and eggs from the chickens which Alberto allowed us to take from the garden and the chicken house just in the terrace below the house. The pool is sensational and super clean and a delight to jump into anytime you get too hot! There is no air conditioning in the house so it gets hot particularly in the upstairs bedroom but we had no problems with that. Towels even for the pool are provided which is perfect! Driving on the mountain roads particularly off road to the house is tricky but with a bit of training no problem at all as long as you go slow. The supermarket in Pitres is small but stocks most things needed - stop in Granada on the way to the house and buy basic foods for the first night otherwise you go to bed hungry! Other than some olive oil and salt there was nothing else in the house but Alberto gave us a bottle of self made wine which was delicious. We aboslutely loved our stay in the house - we will return !"
+ Read moreGreat location and excellent property. Alberto was most helpful and the people in the area are very friendly. Pitres is a very nice village with every thing you can want."
+ Read moreA wonderful peaceful property with a fabulous pool and gorgeous rural surrounds. The house was scrupulously clean, spacious and cool and the gardens and trees laden with flowers and fruit. Alberto was a wonderful host and we would visit again in a heartbeat."
+ Read moreWe loved the farmhouse, the view is spectacular and you are right in the middle of the mountain countryside. The property is not overlooked or close to any other so you are very free. The road/track to the house is steep and not for the faint hearted, walking to the nearby villages/towns was our preferred option. The towns nearby have all the shops/restaurants that you need, but this is rural Spain so speaking some Spanish is very useful. Overall we loved being in the Mountains, steep walks, great views, welcoming hosts, and GTs in the evening."
+ Read moreWe had a lovely two weeks here. The facilities are excellent and the Villa is really comfortable. The pool is great, Alberto uses a saline system that makes it very fresh and lovely to relax in. Alberto the owner is very helpful, he provides fresh veg and there is fruit to pick around the Villa. Alberto's English is better than he thinks and he is an excellent host. If you want to get away from it all and have a completely relaxing week this is the Villa for you. A few tips: 1. Get a reasonably well powered car, our little C3 was really underpowered and made it quite a challenge with four adults on the mountain roads. 2. The advertised path to the Village is not a path its a scramble and definitely not for trying in smart clothing. 3. The road to the Villa is very narrow and winding be ready for this. 4. The village shops are well stocked and reasonably priced , though stocking up before you get there with staples might help."
+ Read moreWe had a glorious stay. The house is well kept and has everything you need. The pool and views were tremendous and perfectly isolated. The only possible issue is the interesting drive there but it added to the remoteness for us. Our little boy loved the toys and pool. Alberto was super helpful and kind. Reassuring to know he was nearby if needed. I recommended Rustical to my sister who also stayed this summer in a property in Antequera with her 3 kids and loved it. We will be going again with this company. Thank you."
+ Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in the AP42. The drive up into the mountains is breath taking but not for the faint hearted, especially when arriving at night with one car sick child! However, once there, it is glorious, a calming, mindful, uninterrupted spot to unwind. We stopped in Granada to do a big supermarket shop before heading up which I highly recommend as there are only smaller food shops in the local villages. We were there in the summer period, and the fruit was in abundance. I sent the children out picking a wide variety for breakfast every morning. The ground is quite dry and therefore very scratchy outside of the cultivated garden area, so trainers and socks is recommended to have with you for 'off piste' areas. The villa was a great size, , clean, well stocked and comfortable. The kitchen was on the smaller size, but functional, with a great coffee pot and juicer + with a little window that looked out across the valley. The property is gated and therefore very safe. The pool was great with enough space for diving, leaping, a unicorn and do-nut inflatables (!) and plenty of fun. We loved the patio area, barbequing every evening and playing cards late. We were fortunate to be there during the Red Moon and had probably one of the best views of it in Europe. Swimming under a red moon has been a memory maker for us all. The host was very kind and attentive, we required extra bedding at one point and his brother arrived late at night armed with supplies. The pool was kept clean and we never had our privacy interrupted. We recommend the trip up there to reach this little oasis."
+ Read moreSpent a wonderful week here in June. The villa is quite remote which we loved. Everything we needed was available. Very comfortable and homely. Short drive to nearest village lots of lovely places to visit nearby. Try it you will love it we will certainly be back"
+ Read moreWe had the most wonderful stay in this villa, the views are stunning and if you like being in the mountains it doesn't get better than this. The pool area is ideal for chilling out. The villa itself was perfect and although a new build with the comforts that come with that it also maintains a very authentic traditional feel this was a house built with great care and attention. Alberto the owner was fantastic he is always available if needed and is such a lovely person to deal with. Pitres the nearest village has a good little supermarket just off the main square and an excellent pharmacy. On Fridays they have a market. For the best butcher in the region you should travel to Capileira the village above Bubion a 10 min drive. The butcher is on the main road on the left as you drive up the hill. Here you will also find a great selection of craft shops and restaurants we returned on several occasions to shop eat and enjoy the views. Access to the national park is at the top of the road through this village. We definitely would stay here again."
+ Read moreAn excellent week in the Alpujarras with plenty to keep us occupied. A comfortable cottage, lovely pool and fantastic views across the mountains. The owner couldn't have been more helpful. But, it was very, very hot in mid August."
+ Read moreLovely villa and alberto is very helpfull, and it is very quiet a car is needed to go any where, but a fantastic place to spend some time..."
+ Read moreMy family stayed in this villa for 8 nights in September 2016. There were 5 adults and 2 children. .We had a marvelous time . The beds are comfortable, the pool is great, the countryside is fantastic for walking and sightseeing and the house is lovely . There are beautiful views over the countryside and the surrounding garden /farm was abundant with fruit and vegetables. The owner was very welcoming and helpful and told us to help ourselves to the fruit and vegetables. The kitchen was a bit short of cutlery and crockery but I`m sure the owner would have provided more if we had asked. The location is remote and the access "road"/lane is difficult and not for the feint-hearted. But we all loved it."
+ Read moreWe really enjoyed our time near Pitres. The peaceful and picturesque setting helped to create a relaxing environment. The children ultimately fell in love the pool that had a mountainside view and the numerous plants and fruit trees made for some tasty snacks. Alberto was a welcoming and helpful host and we could not have asked for a better location to spend the week - thank you!"
+ Read moreWe loved everything about this Villa. It was quite lovely to be at the top of the mountains and although very warm in the sun, a calming breeze kept the villa and the garden at an comfortable temperature. The mountain villages that surrounded the area were charming, lovely bars and restaurants and plenty of them to see. We didn't have to venture very far to keep ourselves happy and entertained. Prior to our departure we thought we would have to travel far and wide for stimulation, however we only made one real trip of any distance to the fabulous city of Granada, which was fantastic. Alberto the owner was on hand by phone for anything needed, and was to us, an excellent villa proprietor. 5 stars!!!"
+ Read moreWe had a wonderful two week holiday in this cortijo. Alberto, the owner, was extremely helpful. When we asked for extra mugs and towels at the start of the holiday, he came around with them immediately. The accommodation was spacious, clean and modern. We particularly enjoyed eating outside on the covered patio as well as spending time in the pool which was a perfect temperature in the late afternoon. The only issue that we had with the cortijo was that the beds were a bit too hard for our backs. Also the final part of the road from Pitres to the house was rather rough and as a result it is worth taking this into consideration when hiring a car!"
+ Read moreDelightful cortijo and a perfect base for our walking holiday in the Spring. Central heating with the added pleasure of an open fire occasionally added to our holiday experience."
+ Read moreA fabulous villa for an away from it all experience, the views were amazing! The owner Alberto was really lovely and was available if you needed him, he also brought some fresh aubergine that he had picked from his home! We suffered with ants one morning in the kitchen and he brought a strong solution to get rid of them, which worked first time. The only disappointment was the lane which led up to the village had become overgrown through lack of use although Alberto had cleared it earlier on in the season, so we had to use the car all the time, which hadn't been our plan. The villa is extremely remote and takes a good car and good driving to get to. The pool is lovely! A great place to spend quality time with friends! Overall we had a lovely holiday in a fantastic rustic retreat! 8/10."
Rustical Update
Alberto is going to clear tthe path more regularly so that guests can use it to walk up to the village.
Fabulous house in beautiful setting. Exceeded our expectations. Really useful information pack."
