Overview

This property is just about faultless. It meets and surpasses exacting standards while serving as a base for a holiday going back and forth the delightful landscapes of Cider Country and the fishing villages and beaches along the nearby coast.

The house is deceptively large. Its 250 m² are spread out on one floor. The main room, excellently furnished, divides into different living and dining areas. An important feature here is the huge picture windows, both for the bright and natural illumination and the views that they provide.

The kitchen is fully and impressively equipped and breakfasting comes with a terrific view.

There are four bedrooms. Mattresses and bedding are top quality and there are reading lamps. The first three rooms have wood flooring and the bunk bedroom is tiled underfoot.

• Double-bedded room (1.50 metre queen size bed) with dressing room and en suite shower room.

• Double-bedded room (1.50 metre queen size bed) with dressing room and en suite shower room and access to jacuzzi terrace.

• Twin-bedded room.

• Bunk-bedded room with single bed for a child above a double bed (2 metre king size bed), with direct access to garden.

These last two bedrooms share another bathroom.

The confident and lavish style sustained throughout the villa continues outside.

Under a timber roof, a jacuzzi hot tub sits in pride of place on one of two large, furnished porch terraces. It can accommodate six people. If you hadn’t already relaxed into the views, you will now...

There are a few other houses in the neighbourhood, but at this elevation you are not overlooked and your intimacy and security are assured.

The 2,000 m² of private gardens, where outdoor furniture, including hammocks and a barbecue, is provided, are safe for children to play in and this property is an ideal choice for families.

There's a DVD with some films, a music system with classical CDs, and a WiFi Internet connection to connected and entertained.

The villa is fresh in summer and warm in winter thanks to a combination of bioclimatic architecture, sea breezes and central heating. The maritime climate is comparatively mild and clement, making the villa very inviting from spring to autumn, although in winter months there can be days of heavy rain.

All your shopping needs are met by nearby Villaviciosa less than 10 minutes away. Villaviciosa is the main town in Cider Country, and you will find not only cider factories but fine restaurants designed to satisfy different tastes and pockets.

Popular with daytrippers, and just 5 minutes from your villa, is tiny seaside Tazones. It has a certain shy, magical tendency to hide behind sea mists when busloads of tourists turn up. The restaurants cater to the latter and we don’t recommend eating out here in terms of quality for price, as there are other better options nearby. But if you come here when the fishing boats come in, you can buy you own seafood direct from the dockside to cook at home.

Tazones has its own small beach but there’s a better one called El Puntal closer to the villa, less than 2 km away in fact, where the estuary meets the sea. It's not large and has an area planted with trees.

For especially impressive, broad sandy beaches we would point you towards Rodiles, 20 minutes away and La Ñora less than 30 minutes from the villa.

Rodiles is a one-kilometre long Blue Flag beach, with facilities that include a lifeguard in the summer season and disabled access. It’s opposite El Puntal, across the water, and so you need to drive round through Villaviciosa to get there, except for July and August, when a little boat operates as a ferry between Rodiles and El Puntal. Rodiles is popular with surfers and you’ll spot windsurfers plying down the estuary from the villa’s terraces.

La Ñora beach, another beauty, is on "your" side of the estuary, along the coast to the west.

There are some lovely walks here. A path from the house leads up to a spot where views are fabulous and you can also walk through meadows to Tazones and its cliff top lighthouse on the coast.

Birdwatchers will have a fine time here, especially in migratory seasons, and the area extending from the estuary shore up past the villa is a protected zone for its aquatic birdlife. We can also put you in touch with an Asturias birding project that offers spotting trips.

West on the coast, Gijón town offers relaxing strolls along its beachfront promenade, harbour, old town and Botanical Gardens.

East takes you to Lastres, a small, pretty town with a real seaside feel, and the Jurassic Museum.

South takes you inland into Cider Country, which we think is even more interesting than the coast. Its green, bucolic scenes are many and varied and stay with you long after you’ve been here. Discover the Piloña shire and the Sierra del Sueve on some lovely walks and drives.

Cider itself is elemental to Asturian culture and you’ll certainly have plenty of opportunities to sample it, as well as the region’s cheeses. Your local town of Villaviciosa is a major centre for cider production and there are factories that open to visitors. In Nava, you can visit the Cider Museum.

When it comes to eating out, you’ll find your inner being very well catered for in the area. We have recommendations for some special restaurants that we will be happy to pass on to you before you travel.

Bob | August | 2016

We liked the house - very comfortable, and good views. Well located, close to Villaviciosa and the motorway. Very interesting area, with a lot to do, spectacular scenery and good beaches. A few small niggles like a few light bulbs not working, also only one chopping board for bread/other food which didn't seem very hygienic, and no grater for cheese/vegetables but nothing major. Overall, very enjoyable, we were very lucky with the weather, too (and saw La Vuelta as it passed nearby!)"

Sandie | September | 2015

We were very pleased with the villa and its location. The house itself was comfortable and clean with excellent patios which offered sun or shade. The views from the villa are wonderful and it was good to be close to Villaviciosa which is a very pleasant town. The villa was cleaned extremely well and the linen changed on the two Saturdays we were there - it is a pity Raquel did not speak English so that we could tell her how well the villa was cleaned but I hope we managed to express our thanks adequately. Also, the kitchen was very well equipped although some of the pots and pans are in need of replacement. Otherwise, a great kitchen to cook in with its panoramic window. To summarise, an excellent villa and a great holiday. Sandie and Ken."

Rustical Update

We have corrected and updated the directions to the villa. We have also been confirmed by property manager (Dec.15) that there are good quality / new pans and pots in the kitchen.

Roger | July | 2015

Overall we felt (five adults, all early 60s) that the house was good; it was well equipped, spacious, and had good views. There was plenty of space outside the house to sit and relax, as well as a large living area inside when the weather was not so good. We were disappointed that there were no basic food items eg salt and pepper, sugar, maybe some herbs etc. we have stayed in similar houses in France and Spain in recent years and they were well equipped with these sorts of items which makes self-catering so much easier, rather than having to buy everything for a short stay. In the general information about the house distances to the nearest shop, bar and restaurant could have been made clearer. We were not expecting a village with a shop, that was clear from the information, but really the only facility within walking distance was a bar about 30 minutes walk along a fairly narrow road. We did not see any basic information in the house about emergency services(the nearest doctor for example). It may have been there but was not pointed out to us when we arrived. As far as we could see there was no information about the local area, and places to visit, again something we have become used to in our stays in similar houses both with this group of friends in recent years, and with our own children when we were younger. We thought the area around Villaviciosa and along the coast was fantastic, and really enjoyed out first visit to this area of Spain."

Rustical Update

Property manager confirms that there will be now basic food items provided at this villa. This property does have local information in the house and the owner is going to show future clients where to find this. Rustical Travel is also going to contribute to improve local info. It's true that the nearest bar is the 30-minute walk stated here.

Beautiful house, great location, views & gardens. We had the problem with all the electricity going off the night we arrived possibly due to water from the hot tub. It was very good that Racquel came over to try & help sort it out so late at night. But if this is a known problem it might be worth leaving some instructions in the house for visitors. When we have stayed at cottages previously with hot tub they often have a list of instructions about the tub, but there were none - at least none in English we were aware of. The hot tub was also only 30 degrees when we arrived so a bit too cold for adults that first day. Then the next day we were asked not to use it so it was the 3rd day of our holiday before we could. We were very grateful as I say that Racquel came to help but it is also worth noting that though the information says she speaks a little English she really doesn't."

Rustical Update

We have helped the property manager to create simple hot tub instructions in English and these should be now provided.

Annette | June | 2015

We had a very good stay at this property in early June which was before the holiday/tourist season got under way, so surrounding areas were quiet and some local facilities were not open. However, this suited us but meant travelling to find restaurants etc that were not shut for holidays. This is Green Spain, not a tourist area as most would imagine, it is well away from the tourist hubs and we did not meet any other English people during the whole of our stay, so school Spanish was well used, very little English was spoken which was fun and made for some interesting menu choices, we often didn't get what we thought we had ordered! The house was well equipped and comfortable and immaculately clean. Raquel did a fabulous job with the presentation of the house and gardens which had several different sitting out areas. Language communication was a bit of a problem but sign language and smiling goes a long way! Our only suggestion would be for a book of notes/guides to be left in the house indicating local facilities, i.e. doctors, emergency numbers, guide to shops and so on. This is usual in other properties we have stayed in, but apart from some tourist leaflets (in English) found on the bookshelves, there was no other information. The local town Villaviciosa has everything you need including a really good pastelaria! You need a car for this property, it is not possible to walk from the house, it is hilly terrain and the roads are narrow. There are no accessible walks from the house, but it is not far to either El Puntal, Tazones or LLastres by car. Car is essential for trips to the mountains which are spectacular and trips here are recommended. Overall a lovely house, be prepared to use the car every day and practice your Spanish before you go!"

We don’t like spam ourselves and we restrict our own promotional mailings to two typically non-aggressive instances:

  1. When a new user actively requests that we send details of special offers, or similar.
  2. Occasional promotional mailings to former clients that they can opt out of at any time.

Otherwise, we never use your  personal information for any purpose other than arranging your holiday booking.

You are entitled to a copy of your information held by us. If you would like to see this, please ask us. (We may make a small charge for providing this to you).
