Overview

We came across this delightful rural villa in a hamlet in unspoilt countryside 45 minutes south of the pilgrimage town of Santiago de Compostela.

The hamlet captures the rural essence of Galicia and the property is one of very few dotted around here, and set in five acres of private gardens and grounds.

There are some wonderful walks in the local area of Codesda and Botos, and picnic spots by the riverside at Vilatuxe, where sunbathing areas have been created and wild swimming in the river is possible.

The house, with its stone walls and wood ceilings, is typical of the region. It's spacious and well-appointed and equipped for self-catering.

You have a choice of dining areas. One is a large dining room, arched over a by a wood ceiling and full of the light invited in by a wall of windows. Ferns and other healthy plants climb up the stone walls, emphasizing the natural feel of the place and there’s a door out to the back garden.

You can also dine in the more intimate atmosphere at the old wooden table in the kitchen, which has marble work surfaces and a wood stove for indoor barbecuing, in addition to normal cooking facilities.

On the same floor are four bedrooms, two of which are en suite and two sharing a bathroom. Down a few stairs is a cozy living room, furnished in a classically rustic style, with an open fireplace for log fires.

On the lower level, the house has a studio apartment with two large sofa-beds, shower room and kitchenette that opens onto its own garden area with a covered barbecue.

There are plenty of safe, fenced gardens for children to play, complete with a stone-built grain store: a historical local curiosity.

Your local hamlet is as quiet as can be, no shops or bars, just a bread delivery van. But there are shopping and other facilities just 6 kms away in Vilatuxe and the area is well served by restaurants: some of the best beef in the whole of Spain, and excellent seafood in Meson O Cruce restaurant.

Santiago de Compostela will undoubtedly be high on your excursion list, and beaches are just under an hour away.

YOUR REVIEWS

Alison | August | 2015

We recently stayed at property AG15 in Galicia. We enjoyed our holiday and the accommodation was of a good standard but I would like to make a few observations as follows:On the plus side the house was clean, the owner was helpful and eager to please and the beds were all very comfortable. Unfortunately, the kitchen lacked a few basics such as a kettle and some oven proof dishes. This proved to be a challenge at times. For a property that accommodates 8 people it would have been nice to have had more garden furniture - there were just 4 sun loungers and no table or chairs. In the mornings and evenings it was very cold in the house so it would have been nice to eat on the front lawn but a lack of furniture made this difficult.Whilst there was a lot of tourist info at the house most of it was considerably out of date and none of it was helpful - there were too many leaflets stuffed into various drawers and cupboards. Some up to date info and a local map would have been useful, as would some more detailed info and maps concerning the walks that were recommended in the Rustical Travel pack which you sent out. We tried one of the walks but it wasn't easy to find or follow. My final comment concerns the description of the property on your website which says the river beach is 5 minutes away. We were particulalry disappointed to find that it was actually 15 minutes by car; too far for our teenage children to be able to walk to as and when they felt like it, which is what we had been led to believe.I hope these comments are helpful.

Rustical Update

Distance from this property to river beaches (Vilatuxe) has been updated on the property page to 6kms.

Other constructive notes (together with our list of things kitchens should have) were passed to property manager who confirms can provide outdoor tables and chairs and a kettle.

We do our best to provide better local information but cannot guarantee a proper guide at this stage (January 2016).
