Overview

It's refreshing to find a triple measure of outdoor space at a village house. Here there's a lovely, plant-filled patio and viewing terraces on both the upper floors.

The colour scheme is sky blue-and-white and furnishings including well chosen items –dressers, seating, beds and rugs– make it into a delicious home with a cheerful atmosphere.

The first thing that strikes you on entering the house is the country-style kitchen, just right for cooking meals for four. You may want to enjoy them at the dining table in the pleasantly illuminated open plan living/dining room, or to carry them out to the patio, furnished for the occasion. It’s perfectly cool even during the hottest months, filled with exuberant plants that create an intimate atmosphere.

The living area is bright and inviting.

There are two upper floors, each semi-independent with its own bedroom, bathroom and terrace, ensuring a significant measure of privacy on each floor.

Bedroom 1 has a terrace with seating for two and views over the rear garden patio and village. It is a lovely spot for reading and relaxing. It also has a spectacularly tiled blue bathroom.

Bedroom is a sun-filled room with a small balcony and sun terrace. There are superb views of the village and castle and Gaucin's valley.

It's bright, nicely decorated and located on a street with no traffic. The only sounds previous guests have mentioned here are country ones, such as cocks crowing, which can be a nuisance to some people. They used to have some at the adjacent property but on August 2016 we are told the cocks and chickes have been removed.

Almost next door to the house is a very good restaurant with one of the best viewing terraces in Gaucin. More details on this and other places to have tapas and enjoy Mediterranean cuisine in the village will be sent to you as one of your holiday documents, together with ideas for days trips and a sample walk. Rambling in the local environs is very popular and for day trips you are spoilt for choice.

Historic Ronda is just 40 minutes away, the Costa beaches even less, and Gibraltar is only one hour.

Nearer at hand are traditional villages such as Genalguacil (we'll send you our suggested itinerary for a great day out here) and charming Jimena de la Frontera: well worth a visit.

The house is on a street that is very difficult to turn into and our advice is to park nearby and walk the short distance there. The property manager will be on hand to guide you and answer any queries you may have.

I don't usually use email unless absolutely necessary... but can say that my friend and I had a brilliant experience with Rustical travel. You were so helpful with putting us in touch with an independent taxi possibility. Thank-you so much for that!! The house in Gaucin was a delight and totally comfortable. I would definitely look to Rustical to find accommodation in future. With best wishes for a good year ahead.

Brilliant place and very friendly greeting. The village is great, lots of nice tapas bars and restaurants - very accommodating for my wife who is a celiac. The house is very eclectic and quirky which makes for a great holiday. I would heartly recommend both rustical travel who were excellent, the house and the gaucin for a stay and we will be returning at some point in the future."

RD 17 Booking process & trip information excellent ( best we have ever had ). This is our second trip in a year to Gaucin. Its' a super little town, amazing views, very relaxing with really friendly people in shops & bars, plus great Tapas. The cottage is better than the pictures, spotlessly clean, fantastic views from the front door. The outdoor space is great, balconies lovely, and the garden pretty and cool. The key holders was extremely nice, friendly and so ,so helpful. Close by there is great general store that sold everything we needed. Overall great time and experience, brilliant value . We will be planning another trip."

Super well equipped house with amazing views from roof terrace. Would definitely recommend but be warned the local cockerels wake early so if you are a light sleeper, so do you! The journey from Malaga airport took around 1hr 45 mins not 1hr 15 as stated in Rustical's literature. Gaucin is a charming village not yet tainted by tourism. Certainly hope to return."

Angharad | September | 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at RD17 and in Gaucin and the local area. The property is lovely, real rustic charm. We loved the outside spaces, the garden and the balconies. The location of the property is great also. It is so quiet (apart from the cockerels first thing in the morning, but this was part of the charm for us). We loved how the morning sunlight flooded the upstairs bedroom. We also loved the artwork on the walls and the eclectic rustic style of the interior. There was plenty of space for hanging clothes and it was great to have the washing machine, ironing board etc etc. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone staying with children as the staircase has quite high steps. Also not being able to park outside the property would not be ideal for families. There was one problem though which we feel needs to be addressed. Every time we had a shower the water was coming up the plughole in the kitchen sink. This was leaving a bad scum in the sink and a very bad smell. We would have to rinse the kitchen sink after each shower. We think there may be a blockage in the drainage or insufficient plumbing? We understand that plumbing in a rural Spanish village won't be as sophisticated as ours at home in the UK, but this is a problem that really needs to be resolved. The owner of the property is just lovely and we wouldn't want this to spoil for her what is a stunning little villa. We would stay there again and recommend to others as long as this problem is fixed."

Rustical Update

Thanks to this feedback, the plumbing was examined, pipes were changed and a new septic tank installed, which solved everything. We agree about the unsuitability of the steps for young children and the comment coincides with what is already published in the Booking information for RD17. The nearest parking (free and on the street) is usually two minutes from the house.

Isabel | April | 2014

We had a very enjoyable time at this quirky and charming little house. The keyholders were extremely helpful and generous with their time and advice. The information provided by Rustical Travel about the village, travel directions, etc. was very useful and thorough. We would suggest providing new arrivals with a route from their car to the property that does not involve walking down steps while laden with heavy suitcases. As the car has to be parked some distance away, it is a bit of an effort to walk to the house encumbered with luggage down all the steps of the direct route. It is possible to avoid steps by going round the block, and it would be useful to point this out."

Very comfortable and well-appointed property, convenient for the town. We found the cockerels in the yard next door very intrusive both early morning and during the day which prevented us from having a relaxed and quiet time in the outdoor areas. Iñes was very welcoming and helpful and overall organisation excellent."

Delightful base for our summer holiday in Andalucia. Rustically furnished, well appointed and comfortable house in a very attractive village. Ideal for anyone with an interest in wildlife, there are plenty of interesting walks. We were very impressed with Rustical Travel's arrangements. The start date was flexible, the key holder was easy to find, the directions were brilliant (even guiding us to a parking space) and the shopping and eating out guide up to date and accurate. My only reservation was the state of the roads- but that's hardly Rustical's fault! I'm already planning my next trip."

Alison | July | 2013

We had a wonderful time in Gaucin. The property was absolutely magical. It had absolutely everything you could want. The interior were like something from a magazine and we loved the village atmosphere and the chickens next door! The village was lovely, and while we only saw one eagle we did see lots of other birds and decorative lizards! The sunset from the houses' terraces were wonderful and at night we could see the lights from North Africa. The village has a lovely and very old cemetery at the base of the castle and the village swimming pool was a delightful place to wile away the afternoons. We also did plenty of day trips to the beach, Tangiers, Ronda etc. We would highly recommend this house and the village it's located in. We really didn't want to leave. Thank you.
