Overview

This extensive property has a personality marked by aristocratic grandeur, truly marvellous gardens, and one of the finest swimming pools among our Andalucia villas.

The villa is divided by a cobbled patio into two separate buildings, down whose centre runs a rose-planted water feature.

The Main building, mostly ground floor, is home to the principal accommodation.

Terracotta-floored and wood-ceilinged rooms range from a supremely reposeful lounge to the Master bedroom and bathroom, from a fully equipped kitchen to its dining area. Antique items, deeply comfy sofas, a chaise longue, are matched by tasteful artwork and rugs.

Directly outside, the covered dining terrace is framed by vistas of the luxuriant gardens and provided with chunky, cushioned, wooden furnishings. Tables and seating are provided so that you can dine together either indoors or out.

We suggested earlier that the villa’s lay-out bore a certain idiosyncrasy and you’ll find it right here in the bathroom facilities.

The upstairs room has a gentleman’s urinal only, and the main bathroom it shares is opposite the foot of the stairs, next to the Master bedroom. And this is fantastic: a luxurious place to sink into the large bathtub or step into the Tardis-like sea-green shower reflected in a gigantic mirror.

The Annexe wing across the patio has three more ground-floor bedrooms distributed along the courtyard patio, from which they are accessed.

The villa's particular lay-out makes it especially well suited to a single family, by which we mean that couples shouldn’t expect to have identical sleeping arrangements, the Master bedroom being distinctly superior to the others.

Outside the estate really comes into its own.

A furnished arbour, breakfast patio (there's a brick-built barbecue, too), and the dining terrace are most agreeable and yet even they seem small beer compared to the glorious gardens and pool.

The mosaic swimming pool is illuminated by night.

A ramp leads gently down into the water and, at the far end, the pool culminates in a Moroccan-influenced pagoda.

If you wish, the pool can be heated to raise the temperature by up to 4⁰C, achieving a balmy 25⁰C or more in June and September. In winter, the heating takes the edge off the cold, but no more than that.

The gardens are magnificent, lawned and landscaped, gaily coloured in spring, richly planted with shrubs, bushes and trees, and they just keep on going as you stroll and explore. They are normally tended along with the pool on Thursdays.

Explore to the perimeter of the property, where it merges into the valley countryside, and you’ll find that it is completely fenced round. The ambience is utterly reposeful, but all the same, a security gate is installed to close off up to 3 cars within private parking.

The entire valley where the villa lies hidden away is not manicured Costa del Sol interior but genuine countryside, unusually lush and green thanks to streams and aquifers.

A significant plus to staying here is the choice of individually different country restaurants along the road that joins this Casares valley to the coast. We’ll send you our recommendations in the Casares Guide which goes out to all our clients booked here, well before you travel.

The villa also has 24-hour support from a property manager who can arrange catering if requested in advance, as well as other services such as extra cleaning.

Casares itself is a delightful village, with all manner of local shops and a pleasure to stroll around. Its position, perched on a promontory with impressive views, adds to its charms.

The Mediterranean coast is only 20 minutes away and its beaches are sandy and long. Venture further west and within an hour you can be in Tarifa, where beaches take on a completely different, more natural, Atlantic character and conditions are perfect for windsurfing.

Local golf courses among the best in Europe. Nearby Finca Cortesin held the 2012 World Match Play Championship.

The climate allows for a round of golf, or horse riding, easily arranged locally, at any time of the year.

YOUR REVIEWS

John | June | 2015

I had a most enjoyable week at RD66. It was perfect for the quiet, retreat-style break that I was looking for and the burden of self-catering was much reduced by the presence of a number of excellent nearby restaurants. Three of them were English speaking and that helped reduce the demands of foreign travel too! Jim the caretaker was most helpful. To summarise, RD66 is the best of the three self catering cottages I have stayed at in Andalucía and I may well revisit."

Mike | May | 2015

Completely happy with the service received from Rustical Travel, and the villa was absolutely superb, just what we were hoping for, very rustic and set in a peaceful environment. Jim, the villa manager, was so friendly and helpful too. Has to be said we fell in love with the villa from the moment we arrived, and leaving was a huge wrench. Thumbs up, totally recommend it!"

Antoinette | May | 2014

Villa was as described, very comfortable and well appointed. The garden and pool were fantastic. We had a relaxing time there. The spaciousness allowed for comfortable communal living and privacy when required. A big plus was Jim ( didn't get surname , sorry ). He was invaluable help, information, meeting us, helping with booking passes etc. In fact his contributation to our experience was a major factor in our enjoyment. Nothing was too much trouble. The villa is not within walking distance to any bar or restaurant ,which is something we had hoped for. Bedrooms were good. The main one in big house very pretty but a bit stuffy. Barbecue and open fireplace worked beautifully, great. All in all a lovely comfortable home, everything you need and more and with Jim to help a wonderful place to stay. Antoinette."

Rustical Update

The property manager will ensure in future that bedrooms are properly aired beforre arrival. We don't suggest this villa to anyone who wants to walk to a bar or restaurant, as the nearest one is very good but 4 minutes'drive by car.
