Overview

This very private villa has four en suite bedrooms, an irresistible circular pool, beautiful Mediterranean gardens and uninterrupted views.

Celebrated architect Aubrey David knew just how to put together a property to make it light-filled, expansive and enjoyable.

He also had an eye for location. This rich, green and sunny valley now has protected status and the handful of villas that daub it with white here and there cannot be added to. Streams run through the hillside, generating healthy woodlands and exuberant vegetation. Golfers might want to practise their puts on sloping lawns before going for a round at local courses.

The gardens deserve a special mention even before we go into the villa itself.

The garden entrance alone is deep and lawned, screened by a line of tall trees.

There are also some stone paths which are not completely stable for people with reduced mobility. But then, as the photos show, there’s a main lawn that runs far and wide from the villa’s upper level, to boomerang round a palm-treed centrepiece before sweeping all the way back to the lower floor accommodation and the double circle of mother-and-daughter swimming pools.

It gives a dynamic feel to a perfectly peaceful property.

Indoors has a quirky, old-world feel to it. What once could have been a luxury home for wealthy owners, is now a house that mixes fantastic architectural design albeit with some dated and other modern features, in an eccentric combination.

Expect both new and outdated furniture mixed together; air conditioning and Wifi, yet quite a basic kitchen; some new and some downgraded beddings...

It has a huge, vaulted living and dining room, flanked in a split-level arrangement by a study and the kitchen.

The living area is flooded with natural light from an array of French windows and skylights. Long pink sofas, scattered deliberately with old-fashioned cushions, are an open invitation to repose and, off to one side, a study sitting room provides a writing desk.

The accommodation has large and very comfortable spaces, and the equipment is good: some people expect brand new facilities these days but this villa, with its remarkably vintage vibe, isn’t your typical Spanish villa.

The dining table seats six very comfortably and we estimated it sufficient for eight people to enjoy meals together.

Outside, looking out onto the gardens, there’s a covered, furnished dining space and a large sitting area, as well.

Downstairs on the lower level are three en suite bedrooms. A feature to note is that the baths and showers are designed to be open-plan with the sleeping areas, an arrangement that works nicely in the warm climate of this Mediterranean valley, but may come as a surprise at first. The WC is always a separate affair, of course.

Windows set high in the bedroom walls invite natural light to illuminate the interiors, which might affect late risers as they are not curtained like the lower windows.

We especially liked the privacy of this villa in its exuberant gardens and valley location. And the way you step down from the upper terrace to the lower garden, for example, under a perfect arch described by palm fronds.

The swimming pool is as big as it looks, and the adjoining children’s pool, also circular, is about 3 metres across.

There’s a hypermarket en route from the airport where you can stock up on shopping, and local shops 5 km away in Casares village. Even closer are a choice of country restaurants opening lunchtime and evenings.

The seaside is only 20 minutes away. Sandy beaches and Mediterranean marinas line up along coast at Estepona, while those who venture further west past Tarifa are rewarded with some of the very best beaches inSpain and the exciting Atlantic.

The area is a paradise for golfing enthusiasts. There are two dozen golf courses including the nearby Finca Cortesin, which is one the best in Europe. In 2012 it held the World Match Play Championship.

We had a lovely stay at this gorgeous house and really enjoyed the beautiful garden. Pool amazing 3 bedrooms were amazing, the 4th was just adequate- if you had four couples staying it could be problematic We loved all the flora snd fauna especially the peacock but not the snakes Loved all the outdoor spaces Kitchen - oven poor, kept fusing, not fitted level so door swung shut when hot and rather dangerous.the kitchen is a bit outdated but we really liked it - there loads of lovely crockery etc Need to check that all bedside lamps in place and working Not all sockets worked with some dodgy looking electrics and an ancient extension lead. Agustin very helpful and as we had elderly people with us helpfully let us arrive early and leave late. The showers were fantastic- so often poor, these were really good. The maintenance lady is very nice but I don’t like her turning up with no notice which she did 2-3 times to garden, poor privacy

The property was amazing. Fabulous views. Great gardens. Lovely pool with enough shade to be able to escape the midday sun. A quiet location but in easy each of mode built up areas for supplies and dining out. It was clean and had lots of hot water for showering. The BBQ was Great. Things to consider would be the intrusive unscheduled house keeper who although tried to stay out of the way,was around gardenening on several occasions. She also arrived around 8 on our day of departure and cleaned the pool so although we intended to use it before check out at 10 we didn't like to. We also left earlier than 10 as it was obvious she was keen to get on and clean indoors. It would be good to know that the lawn was to be mowed one evening as again this was noisy and intrusive. However, easily worked around if we knew and we could plan around it to be out. The rear door from the kitchen does not lock and we relied on using the shutters for securing the property. The option of a cleaning pack would be good. Staying only a week meant buying large packs of cleaning products and laundry items that were not available at the property. This was wasteful and the option of being given enough for the week would have been welcomed. If not then I recommend a holiday maker to pack a couple of laundry and dishwasher tabs in their case! Critical travel were fantastic in communication, directions and local area information. Well done and thanks. Hope this is useful."

Rustical Update

The property manager informed us that he normally notifies clients 24 hours in advance of when the caretakers are going to the house to maintain the gardens and pool, but we have suggested him to set a regular, fixed date for these tasks and inform clients on their arrival so they are aware. We have also been informed that the rear door from the kitchen has already been fixed.

September-October 2016 we spend 9 days in RD45 with our two children, son- and daughter-in-law and 4 grandchildren aged 5½, 2, 1½ years and a newborn only 10 weeks old. The house is well equipped for 12 persons, including high chairs, cods and plastic plates and cups for little children. There is plenty of room for relaxing and playing both indside the house and in the beautyful garden. Birdwatchers will appreciate watching the raptors (e.g. many Griffon Vultures) in the sky and the wild birds living in the garden (e.g. Black Caps, Longtailed Tits and a couple of Peacocks). The large pool was clean and a little cold this time of year, but we used it every day - and the little children enjoyed the little pool. The housekeeper was a nice and very helpfull lady. Beware of the door to the main oven in the kitchen, it was hard to close properly."

Lovely villa and owner was very helpful. The directions needed to have the villa name as when we followed the directions given we were turned away by the housekeeper and this added an hour to our journey as we continued to search having found the villa in the first place!"

Rustical Update

We have already included the name of the villa in our directions to avoid this type of misunderstanding in the future.

Rustical Travel, We loved the villa and you were very helpful to make the booking process very easy and efficient. We would definitely use you again!! Everything we requested was provided. The villas was so spacious and beautiful with a great sized pool. We found the kitchen needed more equipment (decent over trays, a bread knife and other knives) and a bit of updating but other than this we were happy with everything. The grass could also have been a bit shorter in the lawn as this would be better for children to play on. Thanks again, Will"
