Overview

We've been coming to this area for many years, and yet even so, driving through the river basin landscape so rich in vegetation and fertile land for market gardens, between the folded mountain ranges, we felt a renewed buzz of pleasure.

The property is perfectly positioned above the banks of the Guadalfeo River to present the best views.

We took particularly note of how practical, easy and convenient it is. You can park right by the door, there are no steps (except those down into the pool), and the gardens are flat and even, making them ideal for children to run about and play, or someone with reduced mobility to walk around.

The house looks out to Sierra Lujar rising one mile high to the south, before it slopes down to the sea on the other side. The vegetation is suitably Mediterranean, the gardens colourful and scented, lemon blossom and mandarin ripening alongside pomegranate and oranges.

The private gardens and grounds are extensive (some 7,000 m²) and organically healthy, tended according to scrupulously ecological principles by the owner, who lives 5 minutes walk away: here you are completely on your own.

The pool and area have similar plus points. Beautifully clear and inviting thanks to ultraviolet filtering which means no chlorine or other chemicals are required, it is a good 8 by 4 metres and, like the rest of the property, private and not overlooked.

A convenient 5 minutes' drive from Orgiva market town along a country lane, the last 300 m down a decent track, and you're here.

The single-storey house has been designed to make the most of the views and the relaxing setting.

Especially attractive is the spacious living room; as you can see, those large windows make it lovely and bright and give you some wonderful views.

If the sun is strong, you can wind down the stripy awning or pull down interior blinds. If you need it, the living room also has air conditioning for the hottest days of summer, although generally just keeping windows open (they all have insect netting) to the country breezes is enough.

The house is very summery but also suitable for winter holidays. It’s never really cold in the Orgiva area and the house is equipped with an air heater and a wood burning stove.

Furnishing throughout is neat and elegant. The kitchen comes perfectly equipped to provide home cooking for 4 people. It's open plan with dining table and a sitting area with comfortably cushioned chairs.

The two bedrooms are set at the back, where the house is at its freshest.

Just outside the kitchen is a shaded, furnished area for outdoor breakfasts or dining. And there's another shady corner with garden chairs under an ancient olive tree: and then there's the pool...

Winters here are mild and the pool season nice and long: usually from April to October. The pool has steps down into the water and a slim overflow ledge running round it that small children can hold onto easily. There’s another shaded zone by the pool.

It's all set within organic gardens that have producing fruit trees almost all year round. Pear and apricot, mandarin and orange, mulberry and lemon... You can pick and eat the fruit, or just enjoy the colourful blossom and the scents.

It is the peace-and-quiet below the mountains that sets the scene and makes this place what it is. It's just right for a pleasing experience of the Low Alpujarra, discovering sleepy Puerto Juviley, or the rushing cascades of the river at El Duque further upstream.

It's also practical for shopping and café-bars and restaurants in local Orgiva. Rustical Travel knows the area very well and we will be sure to send you our latest recommendations on where to eat out and things to do here, before you travel here.

High on the list are:

Drive up the good mountain road from Orgiva to the villages and walks of the High Alpujarra: another world altogether.

Mediterranean beaches: Salobreña, for example, just 30 mins from Orgiva is a good option for families. Right on the beach itself are fish restaurants offering well-priced lunches, and there's also a chill-out beach bar where you can lounge around with cold drinks.

Visit the Alhambra in Granada: one of the world's architectural wonders is 45 minutes from the villa.

YOUR REVIEWS

Martin | September | 2016

The location of this villa was very restful with great views across the valley. The place is spacious, easy to live in with a well equipped kitchen. We liked the twin bed room as it had views through the lounge to the valley via an internal shuttered window. Very neat that and also allows aircon to work into bedroom. Good shabby chic arty feel. Driveway to property is a bit rough in places and needs care not to ground car, but still OK. Owner was a delight, speaking to us in a mix of French and Spanish, which I could get! Generally left us alone, which was how we wanted it. Pool was big enough to swim in, and very fresh with UV filter and no chlorine. Local shops were OK, did not try local bars/ restaurants as we were out of season really. Liked the region and will go again with Rustical but to a different area to see from a different angle. We enjoyed our trip, Rustical were very good, prices good for what you get. Note: there is a good CARREFOUR on the way to Orgiva from Malaga which is open on Sunday if you arrive then, no shops open in Orgiva on Sunday. Rustical should pass that on in future. 9 out of 10 Thanks Martin and Julie"

Rustical Update

Carrefour supermarkets in Andalucia open only certain Sundays, but not all.

Thank you for recommending the Orgiva villa which was everything we could have asked for. The wood burning stove gave off a wonderful heat and at no time did we feel cold even though the mornings and evenings were quite chilly! We loved the rural setting and the abundance of oranges was a bonus. The owner was extremely helpful and although she did not speak English at all we got by on French. I would highly recommend this villa to country loving couples in the winter but I am sure that in the summer it is very attractive to families. Thank you also for being so helpful on the detail, you can rest assured that should we wish to rent in Spain another year we would certainly contact Rustical Travel.

AP45 was a real find! Set amongst an orange and pomegranate grove with stunning views out to the hills, it is the perfect place to unwind for a week. The house itself was very comfortable and well-equipped and we particularly appreciated the airy living room with it's amazing picture windows. The pool was well-used and it was lovely not to have to swallow chlorine, thanks to the natural filtration system. Orgiva is a delightful little town with a very authentic feel and some lovely places to eat out, while Granada is an easy 45 minutes away. My review would not be complete without mentioning Elisabet, the delightful owner of the property who lives up the hill. We received a warm welcome with a little tour round Orgiva and a delicious chocolate cake. She could not have done more to make our stay a comfortable and pleasant one. I look forward to returning one day and would not hesitate to recommend this property to others."

The description "private holiday villa in semi-tropical organic gardens" says it all. The villa and its location lived up to expectations and the pictures provided on Rustical's website. The villa and its well fitted amenities are acurately described and all were working, including the outdoor pool and the wi-fi. The panoramic views across the valley towards the town are spectacular. Elisabet, the owner, is very friendly and helpful, although a knowledge of Spanish is required. Rustical's preparation notes, guidance to get to the villa and its guide to Low Alpujarra are excellent and allowed us to make the most of our visit."

If you are looking for a peaceful holday in beautiful surroundings near a pleasant town and with a spacious accommodation equipped with everything you want, but no clutter, and an accommodating unfussy landlady who lives nearby, speaks fluent French with the agreeable twang of the Midi, and whose son speaks perfect English and will fix anything which may go wrong, well we found it all here, and the sun is quite warm enough in October. But, surely, there must be something to criticise. Well there’s one unfenced bend in the road to the town, and at the end of the season we did not manage find one of those superlative restaurants you do come across in Spain, but we did not try very hard. Nor did we have the energy to revisit the splendour of Granada, and visit the mountain viliages."
