Overview

This intimate one-bedroomed cortijo in the warm and fertile river valley in Orgiva is a great opportunity for a couple who want their own pool and a good standard of accommodation without unnecessary frills.

The villa is quiet, sunny and inviting, with its own swimming pool and garden. It is private and not overlooked, with only the owners’ house as a very discrete neighbour, and otherwise surrounded by olive and orange trees and market gardens. It's a very genuine corner of the Alpujarra, where you will find the typically eclectic Orgiva mix of people, from local farmers to British retirees to alternative travellers. In a patch of land neighbouring the villa there is usually a donkey or a horse.

Orgiva town is a 10-minute walk away. It manages to be somehow busy yet unhurried at the same time. There are supermarkets, a health food shop, café-bars with terraces, restaurants and a lively Thursday open air market.

The villa is built within its own small plot of land with a garden that offers a lawn, a swing chair for two, simple shaded furniture for eating outdoors, and a filtered swimming pool. Steps go up a flat roof that doubles as sun terrace by day and a place to view the stars by night.

The accommodation's 50 m² are well designed to take advantage of the space and cheerfully decorated, as well as being very adequately equipped for holiday stays.

The living room acts also as dining room, with just a low table for meals, served by a well put-together kitchen with some winning decorative touches.

The double bedroom is bright and upbeat, with french windows out to the garden and swimming pool. The bathroom is very attractively tiled and has a walk-in shower.

Parking is close-by and shaded and one then enters to a private patio and porched front door. Alongside is a nice little lawned garden, part shaded by an old olive tree. The pool has comfortable sunbeds and views of surrounding mountains -- and a nothing-if-not-original sculpture you can see in the photos...

The location is very interesting, too. If Orgiva is an easy walk for all your needs, the excursions are varied and fascinating. We know the area well and will send you our personal recommendations on where to eat out, what to do and day trips.

The Costa Tropical is an easy 40-minute drive from Orgiva. Don’t expect sandy beaches, but do look for the occasional pretty spots along the coast, beach restaurants and their fish barbecues.

Granada and the magnificent Alhambra palaces are 45 minutes away and the picturesque and increasingly quaint, ancient villages of the High Alpujarra (Capileira, Bubion, Pampaneira) with great walking, are less than half an hour away up the inviting mountain road.

It was great!"

David | June | 2017

Our second stay in this wonderful villa, and we hardly ever visit the same place twice. All the arrangements worked fine, from helpful joining information from Rustical Travel to meeting Paco the owner. The villa was clean and comfortable, everything as expected. Paco was very helpful and discrete, even with a gift of fresh produce from his land. He invited us to help ourselves to oranges from the trees, which we did: fresh orange juice every morning! The pool was wonderful and warm in early June when we visited. Orgiva is a ten minute walk away along a track with little traffic. It is not a resort, but an interesting working Spanish town with plenty of bars and restaurants. We may return for an unheard of third visit..."

Ceejay | June | 2017

We spent a very relaxing fortnight here and had fun trying to use our basic Spanish with Paco. We felt the cortijo was incredibly well equipped, the place was clean and they provided fresh towels and linen each week. The kitchen had everything you needed and the BBQ was great, Paco even left charcoal and fire lighters for us. It was nice that Paco was on hand when needed, but apart from leaving us tomatoes and cucumbers he was very discreet. Apart from the last night, when he brought round jamon, melon, wine, and his 2 lovely sons Javier (who's English was amazing) and Sebastian. It was such a touching and lovely way to complete our stay. One of our favourite bits was playing with the kittens and cats on the property. Certainly here and in Orgiva, I would say basic Spanish is a necessity. I also used the Rustical travel basic spanish guide, as I needed to ask Paco where to put the rubbish, when the bin was full. All in all I would recommend the place, as I nice little getaway and very authentic experience for getting to know Spain."

Linda | September | 2016

We were very pleased with this accommodation. We liked it because it was situated in a very interesting part of town that gave us a true slice of Spanish life. Orgiva is not too touristy, has everything provided and it is very easy to access the villages in the mountains, the coast and Granada. We were lucky to be in Orgiva for the annual fiesta weekend which was very colourful. The villa was perfect. It was extremely well kept and private. The garden and pool were lovely and we had a large area to call our own. There is a fabulous warm outdoor shower and clay oven for BBQs. We could pick grapes, herbs, fresh chiles and pomegranetes from the garden. Paco, our host was very discrete and a perfect gentleman. He even got up early on the last day to see us off! It was nice to have him on hand if we needed him. For example, when the pilot light blew out on the boiler, he was there immediately to fix it. However, he never once intruded and left us to enjoy the property. We are animal lovers and very much enjoyed his cats and dogs being around. It gave the place a homely feel. I do not agree with other reviews that the kitchen is not good enough to cook in. We found it small but we'll equipped and cooked many times. The information and directions provided were clear and excellent. The guide to the area and suggestions were very good and formed the itinerary for our holiday. Overall, we had a splendid time and this choice of property for us made a great holiday."

Steve | June | 2016

We found the property to be as described. It was ideal for two and to have your own secluded pool and gardens was a massive bonus, the surrounding mountain ranges were a fantastic back drop. Non English speaking Paco the owner was lovely, we managed to converse with him using our basic Spanish and his "charades based" visual demonstration of what he was talking about. On arrival we met Paco at the pre arranged meeting point and followed him to the property, its a good job this arrangement was in place as the property would not be easy to find the first time, after that there was not a problem. To walk from the property to the town for bars restaurants etc is around a 15 minutes walk, we did not fancy it in our glad rags, so what we did was eat properly in the town at lunchtime, when you could walk up in more casual attire and then had a lighter bite later at the property. Orgiva has everything you could need, we did find it a little run down looking in places, which is a shame. It appears to be on a route for all the people "trying to find themselves" or still living in the 60's/flower power days. It looked like a place you, to quote the Eagles Hotel California "check out but never leave" There are some walks from the centre of Orgiva , but we found it was better to drive to Pampaneira, park up and you can then walk, off road mainly, to Bubion and then to Capileira, a great walk taking in all three villages, returning by the same path, we would definitely recommend this walk because as well as the views, all villages on the route offer resting places, food and drink etc. Would we come here again? probably, but having seen the three villages mentioned on the walk, we would definitely like to base our selves in one of them next time."

Excellent all round. The weather superb - we went mid May for a month. The area is beautiful with plenty of lovely villages to go to in Sierra Nevada. Food in the area is magnificent. The property itself is ideal for a couple. The house has all you need and we particularly liked lazing in the hammocks late afternoon. We are going back next year"

The perfect holiday. Rustical Travels information pack was excellent and told us all we needed to know about the area ,shops and restaurants. Paco, was a good host and there if you needed him, although we do not speak Spanish and he not English we managed to understand each other quite well. The villa, garden and pool were stunning and we hope to return. Alan & Ann"

Wow! An amazing place to unwind and relax. Very twee with a lovely garden ample room and a fab pool and BBQ. A little home in the sun. The owners were also really nice. 2 downsides to the overall experience. 1) There were so many dogs in the vicinity - our property alone had 3 - and with the constant barking and howling it really spoilt the day/night on some occasions. 2) If there was air con in the bedroom it would be paradise - reason being is all doors and windows need to be left open and because of the above it was hard to sleep most nights. Orgiva itself was a little tired and underwhelming but we knew that prior to the visit. The villages/towns in the mountains were lovely, especially Lanjaron and Pampaniera. All in all a great place to visit the mountains and despite the above we really enjoyed doing something different. Would travel with Rustical again but perhaps not back to this little gem."

We spent 7 days in AP35 at the foot of the Siërra Nevada. It was a very special place to be: romantic, private, quiet, a great view. The cottage has everything a couple can wish for: a garden to relax in (two hammocks), the pool, several terraces. This is really paradise. Erik"

We enjoyed very warm weather here during the first week of June, and used the pool several times a day - it was warm enough to spend a lot of time in. We were met as planned by Paco on our arrival, and our limited Spanish was not a problem. The villa, grounds and pool were fantastic: just as described on the website with many nice touches to make our holiday special. Orgiva is within easy walking distance with its many bars and restaurants, also with a working town feel about it. There are walks from the villa - we walked over the hills to Lanjaron for lunch and caught the local bus back. We have fond memories of this villa and look forward to returning."

Hello all at Rustical Travel My husband and I enjoyed a week of paradise at your Villa in Orgiva! Despite failing to get the exact address & name of our hosts ( our fault not yours!) your representative tracked us down, and our host picked us up and we followed him to the Villa. The soroundings were beautiful. A mature garden with Olive and Orange trees, between which were two well appointed hammocks! The garden was full of flowers and other fruit trees. Norrie offered us freshly picked figs and chilli peppers. There was plenty of places to eat outside. And a great charcoal oven/BBQ to cook outdoors. The Villa was small but quaint and very comfortable. Imaginatly decorated with lovely coulorful tiles in the bathroom and kitchen. It was basic enough but had everything we needed. Our Hosts Paco and Norrie couldn't do enough for us, the welcome gifts of wine beer water and tea ect were a lovely surprise. Best of all was the well kept pool complete with sun loungers and parasols. We highly recomend this location for a complete get away holiday. Orgiva itself is an ordinary town, you have to travel further up to see the really beautiful villages. We stayed with Rustical travel in Boubion last year, and enjoyed some spectacular hill walks. This year we hung up our boots and settled in our little Villa, relaxed, read books ate and enjoyed the joys of nature in the foothills of the Alpujarras. Kind Regards to all at Rustical Travel and our kind Hosts."

My Husband and I had a wonderful stay. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable for 2 with an abundant garden (with herbs and fruit) and pool area. Very peaceful and private with beautiful surroundings, the perfect place for rest and relaxation. Although we did experience a language barrier we could communicate enough to get the basic messages across, but our hosts were very helpful and accommodating when we needed, and with no intrusion on our privacy. I would have no hesitation in staying here again, in fact I'm missing it already."

We had a wonderful time in Orgiva. The rustic travel property was well presented, with everything we needed for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The setting was very relaxing and the cottage and garden have been well-designed and maintained. Our hosts were warm and welcoming and provided a thorough overview of the property upon our arrival. It was well situated with respect to Granada, the Sierra Nevada and the coast. We would most certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking to holiday in southern Spain."

The property is fantastic, the garden is filled with fruit trees and is a great space to be in. The owners are great, they were always on hand to help if we needed it. Paco met me in the town after a phone call, so worth recommending folks going to the property to take a mobile. The pool is great, well kept. Same inside the house too. The house doesn't have air conditioning but having stayed over a warm week I can confirm that it didn't make a difference to the stay as the house is easy to keep cool. All you have to remember is it is in the hills. Once the power went out in the area but it didn't make much difference to the holiday at all. The property is gated and so provides a great area for you to park the car without worrying about it. All considered, a great place to holiday. Louis"
