Overview

Here you are ensconced in one of the prettiest village neighbourhoods of the mountain world of La Alpujarra.

Just down from the village church, in the oldest and quietest neighbourhood of Bubión (population 300), this is one of the last houses in the village. The street then comes to an end and becomes a country path which meanders down the gorge to neighbouring Pampaneira. It's very pretty, with spectacular mountain views on all sides and complete peace and quiet.

Reached through a private,  tree-shaded garden, planted with shrubs and flowers, is a stone-built cottage built on one floor: a very special, rustic-style studio apartment. It's south-facing, so sunlight fills the open-plan design and views sweep through the mountains and down to the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.

The sunsets, particularly in winter when they are deep and red, are a joy, often lighting up the sea and even outlining the Rif Mountains in Morocco.

The house has an eclectic mix of good quality rustic and chunky furniture, with Moroccan rugs and modest antique pieces lending a sense of understated class.

The living area has comfortable sofas, and there is a larger than average double bed (the bedroom is curtained-off fom the living area), and a compact but perfectly functional kitchen.

A dining room branches off  from the kitchen, with plenty of seating.

French windows from the cottage give on to a small, private terrace, where views are uninterrupted and the mountain air is alive and fresh.

Especially nice is the private, fenced-off and lawned garden and its superb views.

The hikes in this quiet mountain world are terrific and Bubión has at least two bar-restaurants open all year round to restore the hungriest of ramblers after a long trek. One of them has a large drinks and dining terrace with cherry trees that provide welcome shade from late spring onwards.

You have a local supermarket for self-catering, and fruit-and-veg market trucks sell in the village once a week.

In winter months, when the Alpujarran landscape is otherworldly, from the cottage you garden can see thick snow high up on the Sierra Nevada mountains, although it's very rare for snow to settle in the village. Inside, there's central heating and a hearth for log fires.

Free parking is nearby on the church square. It's a winding drive down from the main road but everybody manages it! You can also leave the car in free parking up by the road (the only road there is and which links the high villages).

For days out, as a change to the walks and relaxation, within easy reach you have Granada and one of the wonders of the world in the Alhambra.

Beaches of the Costa Tropical are just over an hour's drive.

Beautiful house, enough space for the two of us. Fully equiped kitchen. It is a pity that the key holder doesn't speak English at all. When the gas bottle was empty it was very difficult to explain to her that we needen a new one."

A wonderful location in a quiet part of the village. Our second visit there and it did not disappoint. Very well equipped and extremely spacious (for 2) with exceptional views down the Poqueira gorge to the coast. The service and support from Rustical Travel is of the highest standard, we cannot recommend them highly enough, and we are using them again in 2018."

We really enjoyed our stay. The property exceeded our expectations - location, comfort, beautiful views. We were made very welcome and had everything we needed. The walks in the area are excellent and we also enjoyed eating at La Tiede which is 5 minutes' walk away. We would heartily recommend this property and hope to return one day."

We had a really wonderful holiday in cottage AP11 in Bubion. The customer service we received from Rustical Travel throughout the booking process and in terms of the information they provided us once we'd booked (directions from the airport to the cottage including suggested lunch stops and convenient supermakets en route!) was absolutely fantastic. Rustical Travel were always quick to respond to any queries we had and were always very courteous in their replies - a pleasure to deal with! The cottage itself was even nicer than in the pictures, and also a bit bigger than it looks. It is a lovely quiet place to relax as it's in the lower part of the village and you feel almost as if you're in the middle of nowhere - it's very private. The garden is the perfect place to lie in the sun and enjoy the view of the beautiful gorge. It's only a short (slightly steep, but perfectly manageable) walk up to the main road where the small but nice collection of (non-touristy!) restaurants, bars and shops are. The cottage is very well equipped and we didn't feel that anything was missing. The bedroom was very comfortable and it was lovely having a peaceful night's sleep (no traffic noise!) and waking up to those stunning views. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace for our meals and watching the sun go down. We loved it so much that we hardly ventured anywhere else for the whole week. We were in need of a week of relaxation and this was the perfect place for that. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering holidaying here. Thank you for a lovely holiday! Helen and Ben"

AP11 is a lovely property and is actually bigger than appears in the photographs, there is everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. The kitchen is well equipped, there are plenty of places to sit and relax in the garden - both in shade and in the sun, the lounge has comfortable sofas and there is also a large dining table (although we never used it as we always ate outdoors). The garden is beautiful and well maintained. Doors from every room open out onto the garden or terrace and the views are stunning. Bubion is a very pretty and peaceful village. The locals are all very friendly. We ate a couple of times at El Teide Restaurant and would definitely recommend it. The staff there are very friendly and helpful and the food is very good value for money, the menu is traditional and portions are large! The cottage itself is at the bottom of the village, below the church, and so if you choose not to drive down through the narrow streets, you can park at the top of the village at El Teide. We did park there a couple of times, but as the walk back up was very steep and it was extremely hot (during July), we decided that the drive down was worth it. The only "problem" we encountered with this was that one evening, a truck had parked half way down, blocking the road, and so we had to reverse back down the narrow streets to the small parking area by the church and then walk up into the village to find somewhere for dinner. Fortunately my husband wasn't fazed by the drive through the narrow streets (in fact, I think he enjoyed it), but I am not sure I would have been able to do it. So anyone who is a little nervous at driving, or struggles to climb steep hills, may prefer a property at the top of the village instead. It is very quiet at the cottage and most of the time all you can hear are the birds singing and the occasional dog barking. The information provided by Rustical Travel prior to travel was outstanding! We have never had such detailed, useful information before - thank you! Thanks also to the caretaker and her husband for making sure we were settled in on our first day, and especially to her husband who drove down to the property in front of us to show us the way. On our last day, we had an evening flight home and asked Rustical Travel if we might be allowed a slightly later check out time as the cottage was not booked the following day. They kindly obliged and we were able to have a more relaxed last day - for which we were very grateful. We would not hesitate in recommending this property (or in fact, any other Rustical Travel property in Bubion) to anyone else. We would also be more than happy to book through Rustical Travel again."

Absolutely loved the cottage, the pueblo, the views, the food and everything. Luisa was lovely, friendly and punctual. The cottage was clean and perfect for the four of us. There was an issue with the towels (we only had three for four of us and they were old beach towels, but nothing so bad that spoilt the holiday) You definately need to test your driving skills to drive around the village but there is always the option to park and walk and all is easily accessible. The nearest village is worth a visit and is lively and the rugs are beautiful. An hours drive away you have the beach for a nice day out. Loved the whole area and would love to go back. If you want any photos we took you are very welcome. thankyou"

We have just returned from a week's holiday staying at AP11 in Bubion. This is just to say thankyou for the service you have provided - your website is outstanding, information is excellent and replies to my various emails rapid and positive. We really enjoyed the property. Although the bathroom and kitchen were small, they were perfectly adequate and the decor and fittings in a Moorish theme were unexpected and of a high quality. The setting of the property was particularly enjoyable, being next to trees and having a small lawn, garden and creepers over the railings etc. We spent some time on the small verandah outside the lounge - it would have been even better if there was some form of shade in the form of a canopy or sunshade/parasol. Otherwise it was fine. The accomodation was very good value for money, especially as the price was quoted in Euros. One of your competitors was also offering the same property but at a fixed price of £530! We will certainly consider using your company again."

We want to let you know that we had a great time in Bubion! (AP11). The house and surroundings are very beautiful. The caretaker was very kind and helpfull. We recieved your text message after the broken boiler. 10 minutes after we called, the caretaker already made arrangements to solve the problem. The next day a new boiler was installed. We really appreciated the fast action that was taken. We hope to book with Rustical Travel again in de future. "
