Overview

This neat little mountain cottage is just the place for a couple who want to be on their own, well away from it all, and spend their holiday exploring some great hiking trails in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

The principal attraction here is the unspoilt location in an utterly tranquil spot in the high Alpujarra. It’s very pretty and very private in nearly two acres of hillside estate.

There’s also a large swimming pool for the summer months in the natural garden grounds.

A short track into the country finca takes you between a few almond trees to the little cottage.

The self-catering villa is newly built and faced with local stone to blend in with the natural surroundings. It’s more than a small, pleasant and functional apartment, it is a lovely cottage. A long terrace runs all the way along the front, and the views are marvellous: from the private hillside terrain that spreads out before you, over treetops to distant mountains.

Entrance is from the terrace, to a limited but neat and wood-beamed living room, with a kitchenette for preparing simple meals.

The bedroom has an excellent king-size double bed (actually 2 beds made up together), in a room with french windows that open onto the terrace. Please note that the wall heater in the bedroom is not connected.

On the other side of the living room is an extra bedroom; it's rather small and we consider it to be suitable for a child only. There’s a bathroom, nicely tiled in traditional Granada style.

Outside, you have a little table and chairs for meals and drinks on the terrace, which is shaded from the strong Andalucia sun by a roof and a covering vine. There’s a light here for sitting out in the evenings.

Separating you from the nearest neighbouring property is a grand expanse of semi-wild garden, planted here and there with fruit trees; off to the right, in an intimate corner, a good-sized swimming pool has been left whiteish in colour to respect the special Natural Park location.

It’s a new property in an old setting and you soon get a feeling for the place.

This area of the high Alpujarra is called La Taha, a nomenclature that survives from the days of the Moorish occupation 400 years ago. It’s fabulous for hiking! Just down the track that goes up to the cottage are signposted walks to neighbouring villages that take you through centuries-old chestnut trees and past the equally old acequias, or irrigation channels, that still bring mountain waters to local market gardens.

The nearest village is Capilerilla (not to be confused with Capileira, the goal of another great walk over the ridge to the Poqueira Gorge). Capilerilla is too small to have a shop: there’s just a little hotel that opens sometimes to serve drinks and meals but at least in 2017 their opening times were not reliable.

But you do all your shopping and try out restaurants in Pitres, which is only 1 km down the road. It takes about 20 minutes to walk down and 25 walking back up. You’ll find the area’s best little supermarket here, tapas bars, arts and crafts centre and Friday open air market.

Nadira | September | 2017

What a fantastic place to stay, we had a great time, excellent hiking and walking. Martin and Tons were brilliant hosts who were very informative without being intrusive. The villa was very well equipped and had all that we needed, the car did not move for a week because we could easily walk into Pitres for supplies or a morning coffee. We would definitely recommend this villa for a getaway in the High Alpujarras."

Wonderful setting and area with lots of interesting villages and walks to explore. Great restaurants around too. Thoroughly enjoyed the pool and views and property was very clean and comfortable. Our only suggestion would be a microwave / possibly combi oven as there is only a hob to cook on. Very impressed with rustical travel information and arrangements."

Rustical Update

In our visit in October 2017 there was a table to oven and a microwave in the utility room adjacent to the back of the cottage.

We had a lovely time at this pretty modern, traditionally finished, house. Great pool where we could relax or, in my case, clock up the lengths! Great walking just outside the door or within a short drive and Pitres is a friendly village with everything we needed. Our hosts Tons and Martina were discreet and helpful. There when we needed them but very aware of the need for privacy and peace. The house had breathtakingly beautiful views and the bed was the most comfortable we've had on our, many, travels. Lots of useful additions, e.g. binoculars with which to look at the spectacular stars. We would certainly go back and look forward to doing so."

Our jaws dropped when we arrived to see the magnificent views and lovely accommodation. The owners Martina and Thon were very welcoming and also respectful of our privacy. They gave us some great tips on exploring the area and we're also greatlfun. The accommodation was well furnished and comfortable. The pool was a bonus when returning from one a the many beatififul walks in the area. We would often come "home" early just to chill out and enjoy our estate. Well done Rustical Travel for having this gem available but don't tell anyone as we want to come back soon. As usual you provided us with good information and directions."

My boyfriend and I stayed in this beautiful rustic cortijo at the end of May and it was superb!! The villa had everything you could need, was clean and in a great location complete with private gardens overlooking the mountains. It was idyllic. We met the estate owners who were really lovely. Highly recommended. We hope we can come back next year. We received a very professional service from Rustical Travel and will definitely be using their services again."

We are just finishing our time at AP39 near Capilerilla after a wonderful week. The property is a paradise in the mountains, everything about the place is just perfect and Martina and Thon are great hosts. Rustical Travel make planning a holiday so easy, with more than enough information to help us with our trip, always ensuring we have everything we need. We will certainly be recommending Rustical travel, and will travel with you again.

David | August | 2015

Rustical travel were excellent - very well organised, and you felt secure in knowing they would sort any problems out if they occurred. The property was just as described - simple and clean. beautifully set in fairly remote countryside. The owners who live behind the property were very helpful but left you in peace if you wanted it. The road leading up to the property is very rough. I would advise a car with good ground clearance! We had a wonderful holiday!"

William | July | 2015

Yet again a fantastic stay at Capilerilla, with two weeks of beautiful sunshine, in such a lovely setting. The cottage is near Pitres, which is the place to do your shopping (the supermarket even had a small "British" selection of goods, although not required by ourselves, as it has everything you would normally need), for local entertainment and is about 15 minutes walk from the property. The owners are a fantastic couple and will help you any way they can, and allow you your privacy, although as is to be expected, they do need to check the lovely pool at times to maintain it in it's pristine condition for swimming. The cottage is just a very short drive from the Sierra Nevada National Park, and well worth visiting, plus the villages of Capileira, Bubiob and Pampaneira. There are numerous walks that can be made direct from the cottage, with the distance to walk, down to the individual. This year we again saw the eagles, plus a red squirrel most afternoons/evenings, and a fox occasionally at dusk on the perimeter as it did it's rounds (it runs away if it sees you). I again got some great photos of the abundant bees and butterflies that visit the garden, particularly the Lavender. I would highly recommend this holiday cottage to anyone who wants a relaxing and private holiday, but with the opportunity to see rustic Spain and all it's beauty.""

Absolute a great stay. The house is perfect for a couple with a spare bedroom for a child/adolescent. We ate every meal on the deck and the pool provided a very nice way to cool off. The views are fantastic and hiking trails nearby. Pitres, the small village, has a grocery store, bakery, bank machine and restaurants for all your needs. Really an ideal location. The best part of the trip was Martina and Ton, the owners. They are very discreet and will be invisible, if you like, but we initiated contact with them, and they are great: friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and just delightful to be with. They gave us books and advice on trails, where to find the open markets, advice on food and restaurants. They made an already perfect location even better. Many thanks! Chris and Paul"

This is a great cottage near Pitres, with superb views across the valley. If you like secluded holidays, then this place is for you. The owners are a wonderful couple and will help you any way they can. The cottage is just a very short drive from the Sierra Nevada National Park, and well worth visiting. If you like walking and wildlife, there are numerous footpaths, both major and off the beaten track, with which to explore the area. The locals in Pitres are very friendly, even if you do not speak Spanish, and the local supermarket will provide most things you would wish for. This is our second time here, and we have already booked up for next year. I would recommend this holiday cottage to anyone."

William | July | 2013

This is a lovely place to relax, or if you are more energetic, then there is plenty of walking that can be done on the numerous footpaths. If you wish for a quiet and secluded holiday, then this place is for you. The owners have a much larger property further up the hill, which is hidden by the many oak and chestnut trees. The accommodation and surroundings were lovely, complimented by the pool, which made our holiday such a memorable one. The owners made our holiday very special, and are so friendly, always wishing to help, but also maintaining the privacy that we wanted. For those people who may be wondering about mosquitoes, we did not see any all the time we were there at the end of July. The local supermarket in Pitres can supply generally all you will need. The local Alpujara people are very friendly, and although most do not speak much English, and we did not speak any Spanish, there was no issue in communicating to get what you wanted. We loved this place so much, that my wife insisted on checking it's availability this coming year the day after we got back, and we have subsequently booked it for another two weeks for 2014. We would highly recommend this accommodation, particularly to those who love the outdoors and want something secluded and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the owners for allowing us the privilege of using their cottage."
