Overview

The mountain world of Las Alpujarras has a sunny enclave just ten minutes beyond the Poqueira Gorge.

La Taha is as quiet and bucolic an Andalucia holiday destination as you can find, while providing local hostelries with good food and tapas.

In a very relaxed estate even by local standards, surrounded by hills, olive groves and farmland, this is the largest of three independent garden apartments.

It’s just the place to sit back and soak up the mountain energy, when you’re not out walking the paths and byways that link La Taha’s seven little white villages.

As you can see from the pictures, the decoration is playfully colourful and imaginative. And yet the building has typical local elements, being structured with old chestnut beams and a slate stone floor.

You have two comfortable sofas in a living room, which is divided by a curtained archway from a double-bedded room.

There’s a good-sized kitchen and equally spacious dining area.

Two outdoor areas with a shaded porch make this a very pleasant option. It’s close to the huge swimming pool, yet screened from it by bamboo. Trees populate the land, affording more shade in the hotter months.

Both pool and gardens are shared, but they’re impressively large and shared only with two other couples.

The gardens are well-kept and fed by freshwater springs, one of which tumbles down rocks into a very large swimming pool.

Both pool and gardens are shared with the other two one-bedroom apartments. There are also barbecues and sunloungers for your holiday enjoyment.

The Spanish owners, who live on site, are unintrusive and likely only to appear to offer fresh fruit juice on the house. They speak a little English if you have no Spanish and are pleased to help out with local information.

There are two small villages within walking distance of the country estate. Each has a café-bar/restaurant with outdoor terraces where good, well-priced food is to be had.

Walking is wonderful here, with paths linking up to other villages in the Taha. It’s all very tranquil, and the climate is milder than the nearby Poqueira Gorge, where the villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira can be visited.

Pitres, the capital of the Taha area, although it musters only 600 inhabitants, has a supermarket, bakery, bank, arts centre, health clinic and simple bar-restaurants. It’s just 3 km from your accommodation.

The Alpujarra location is ideal for getting away from it all in the mountains, but day trips to Granada for the Alhambra, and the Costa Tropical, are also possible.
