Overview

This lovely little Asturian cottage is situated in the Sierra del Sueve, the pretty range of misty hills that rises up almost directly from the Atlantic coastline. It’s walking distance to the village bar and restaurant and 40 minutes’ drive from beaches.

The views tell the story.

It’s not just a gorgeous location: it’s a great base for holiday options, too. There’s walking in the Sueve itself, in the Picos de Europa, swimming at well cared-for beaches, visits to fishing villages (Lastres and Tazones are especially recommended), strolls round tiny, ancient hamlets like Espinaredo, not to mention the justly famed local cuisine and sampling different sorts of cider and cheese… there’s even a top quality Japanese restaurant nearby.

The accommodation is traditional on the outside and modern on the inside. It’s very neat, uncomplicated and sunny. The large windows that wrap round the upstairs living area like a gallery mean that fabulous views are ever present: you can open the windows and really breathe in Asturias.

The upstairs room is a bright, wood-floored and open-plan living/dining room and kitchen. The kitchen has built-in appliances that keep it tidy and a large worktop for food preparation. The views are of a grand, evergreen valley that sweeps down from the Sierra del Sueve with the Picos de Europa in the distance (40 minutes by car: not far). All you see are cows, hillsides, forests and the rugged scenery of the Picos – looking more alpine Swiss than Spanish – daubed with snow patches.

A staircase takes you down to a double bedroom and a small hallway off which the shower room/WC leads. Doors open from the bedroom to a 20 m² terrace with two garden chairs. The upper gallery is supported by wooden pillars to provide a measure of shade, but most people prefer to sit out in the sun. Alongside is a small garden area.

The cottage is located 13 km from Infiesto on the edge of the pretty hamlet of Anayo, along a lane that takes you into deep tranquillity and privacy, with very few houses nearby and not disturbing your independence and peace and quiet.

About 150 metres from the house is a traditional bar-restaurant whose set meal of the day promises a generous serving of tasty home-cooked food. It’s the kind of place where old men play cards and other local games. Well off the beaten track. There’s no written menu, instead the cook will tell you – or show you – what’s cooking. Food can also be ordered to be taken away.

For a touch of sophistication, the Japanese restaurant in Robledo de Anayo (just 10 minutes from the cottage) is regarded by many as the best in Asturias. It’s pretty special and needs to be booked in advance. Once again, the views are wonderful.

Holidays here place you in a traditional culture, where people maintain many customs including the celebration of fairs: do ask when you’re there if there’s a feria on somewhere, as it’s not something to be missed or readily forgotten.

Otherwise, the Sueve hills and majestic Picos mountains have trails and vistas to keep you rambling almost endlessly, and if you long for the sea, it’s only a short drive.

The well preserved fishing village of Lastres, for example, is only 40 minutes away. Right by Lastres and overlooking the sea (you can make it out in the distance in one of the photos) is the Jurassic Museum, which celebrates the major find of dinosaur remains here. On the sandy beach below you can see fossilized dinosaur footprints.

The string of beaches along the cliff-lined coast range from the barely discovered and semi-wild to quite busy (but only by Northern Spain standards) little coves.

We had a wonderful 12 nights in Anayo - the property is very comfortable and has everything you need- the location is brilliant with views that constantly change and easy access to the mountains and beaches. The information provided by Rustical Travel was comprehensive and we followed many of the suggestions for days out. Communication was easy from good directions to the property and WhatsApp messaging with our local contact. Can’t find anything negative to say! We had a great holiday and everything felt easy and well organised! Thanks Rustical Travel- we’re organising next year’s trip already!"

Rusticated travel are awesome! Good and fast communication. They even made a pdf of things to see and do. Before we went to Anayo I was afraid that everything was too far. But, 30 minutes in car goed by so fast. We loved ruta del oso. Easy bike trail. 1 hour from the home. The views are stunning. My partner told me this is the first time she wants to revisit a home. Nice big kitchen. Everything is spacious, except for the bed! If it was my own house, I would get rid of the closet and have a slightly bigger bed. But it was good, pillows as well. Other recommendations is see the dinosaur print fossil at the beach (also our favorite beach), covadonga lakes and ascent river sella was so much fun! Some days we didn’t want to hike closely because the best views are already in front on the house. In a week only one day we had bad weather but even on those days, go shopping in Oviedo shopping mall and or wait , because the sun will always shine if you wait long enough. 10/10 recommend."

Gateway to the Picos it isn’t. It’s a long drive down twisting mountain roads to get to the National Park. Anoyo is the sort of place you have to pass through to get somewhere else. Having said that the views from the house down the valley are inspiring and the weather constantly changing - it’s a compelling view. The bedroom is cramped and the wardrobe impossible. It would really help the property if there was more detailed info on walking in the immediate area. There is nada at the moment, tho we discovered some walks so they do exist (the local people walk on the roads). If you want to look out the window, it’s great. If you want to walk out from the house, not good. If you want to walk in the Picos add two/three hours driving each day to your planned itinerary."

Aunque no pasa casi nadie.

We enjoyed a great week in this lovely little house in Anayo. The property is perfect for 2 people. It is very thoughtfully designed, is spotless and modern. The property has good WiFi and central heating. It's located in the village less than 5 mins walk from the local bar. There are a couple of houses nearby but we felt nicely secluded. The best thing, though, is the view from the property down the valley and across to the Picos. We spent hours sitting watching the view change depending on the different light and weather. Belen, who met us was very helpful and the information and organisation from Rustical Travel was superb. Highly, highly recommended."

One of the best places we have ever stayed - charming, well-equipped for two and with stunning views. We loved the big picture windows and spent hours just sitting watching buzzards and eagles, reading our books and I generally chilling. The local bar was great for a quick meal and a game of cards. We especially liked their cider, stuffed mushrooms and the landlord’s generosity with the liqueur bottles! The booking service was very good indeed and I can honestly say they gave us the most comprehensive information I’ve ever seen on places to visit. Favourite places for us were Arriondas - lively without being touristy and where we had our best meal, Lastres and Tazones great for walking around and Rodiles beach. Covadonga Lakes in the mountains were amazing - take the coach up to the top, it’s worth it. If you want shops and bright lights don’t come here but if you’re looking for a cosy hide away in the hills with walks, small towns and beaches not too far away, this is perfect."

This is a wonderful little place for 2 of us exploring the region and had everything that we needed for a motorcycle trip: washing machine etc. We absolutely loved it here but the only point that was not excellent was the damp bedroom with a wardrobe that could not be fully used as the drawers would not open. Try as we might we could not get rid of the damp feeling and smell (only in the bedroom) despite heating and airing. If this could be dealt with then the place would be perfect!"

Rustical Update

The property manager informed us that the severely wet and humid winter (and spring) that took place this year affected the drawers, which they will fix. Likewise, she said that the house needs to be aired properly and regularly to prevent dampness. In any case, she has a dehumidifier that she can use to prevent it.

We (Dutch "middle-aged" couple) had a wonderful time in this cottage in Asturias. The cottage is small, but exactly big enough for two, in our opinion. It has everything you might need for a holiday: bed, shower, toilet, kitchen, refrigerator, washing machine (clothes), living space, outdoor space (terrace) and the most wonderful everchanging views you can imagine. When we were in the cottage (June 2018) it had been raining a lot in Asturias, but we had mostly dry weather and beautifully changing skies. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Picos the Europa (with snow on it's peaks!), but we loved the misterious misty views as well. If your looking for peace and quiet, this is the place to be. There is 1 bar, where you can eat as well (closed on Monday night and Tuesday). Other than that there is green sceneries. Full stop there. When we where there, the Fiestas de San Antonio ("celebration of Saint Anthony") were celebrated. Nice to go and have a look on either Friday and/or Saturday night. Except for the fireworks anouncing mass, there was nothing disturbing the peace of the cottage though, during this celebration. We wanted some activity as well as peace and quiet, so we went hiking in the Picos and in Ponga, we went kayaking down the river Sella, we went cycling form Arriondas to Ribadesella, we had a dip in the ocean... Lot's of stuff to do, if you're prepared to drive. We loved to combination of the mountains and the ocean, both nearby. Asturias is lovely, people are friendly and the cottage is lovely as well."

We had a really enjoyable stay. The instructions on how to find the house were very useful, and so was the information on the area. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the local bar on our first evening. We were also able to buy bread and milk there. The house was very well designed and organised. The views were breath-taking, and it was awesome to see the mist rise from the valley in the mornings. We were lucky with the weather, and at times it felt like paradise. Our only suggestion for improvement is internet access."

We had a lovely time at this property. The views are amazing (when the fog isn't heavy). We thought the views were even more fantastic than on the website picture. There was a constant lovely chime of bells from the animals in the fields nearby ,which reminded me of my time as a mountain cattle herder in the Alps. The kitchen had all the necessities even basics like coffee and oil was there. The sofa was very comfortable even to sleep on. Books to read and lots of walks and day tours by car nearby possible. Shower was good. We felt very safe there and secluded. We loved it . There were only 2 little things I cld not get the iron to work, but I did not expect there to be an iron in the first place anyway so no big deal. The bedroom stayed nice and cool during day when hot but I found it too foisty to sleep in at night so I slept upstairs, did not affect my partner though."

We have informed the property manager about the iron not working.

A stunningly situated cottage. Inside though: - there were lots of info leaflets but unfortunately most were quite elderly! It would be nice if you could stock with info about things happening in the current year - especially since there's no wifi to check up on events. We were only there a week and a "head Start" would have been useful. - bedding - yes the room was 'bijou' but that would be improved with some modern fresh bedding - especially some decent, comfortable pillows."

We absolutely loved the place. Very quiet. Practically the only thing you can hear is the odd cowbell. The view is utterly spectacular and can change hourly. The place itself was perfectly comfortable, well equipped and clean. We were met by the key holder who showed us round and then said just shut the door when you leave at the end of the week. So simple. The neighbours very kindly allowed us to park our bike under their grain store for the week which was welcome protection from the rain - which only happened once! With regards the weather, it was much cooler in the mountains, and quite changeable - much like an English summer - but the hot days were glorious! We never actually made it to the bar. We were too busy exploring the mountains on our motorbike. This place is not for somebody who wants a beach holiday as it's about 45 minutes from the sea although the nearest beaches are all stunning. For driving or motorcycling the whole area is magnificent but you have to be comfortable on very tight and twisty hilly and mountainous roads. Our only glitch was that the supermarket in Colunga was closed on the evening we arrived even though the details said it would be open. We think this was an irregular occurrence however. We raided the local garage for a nights worth of snacks! Our experience with Rustical was superb all along and will definitely look there first for our next holiday."

Hello. We had a wonderful holiday thank you. The property was fab. The views amazing and such a lovely room on the first floor - very well equipped. Modern and stylish. We really enjoyed being there. The only suggestions we have are that you provide a small table for the outside so we could eat on the patio; and a corkscrew in the kitchen to open a bottle of wine! We made good use of the information you sent us about the area. That was really useful. The only disappointment was that the local bar in the village was closed for their holidays. We had specifically picked a property within walking distance of a bar as we didn't want to drive at night - so it was disappointing to find it closed We would be very happy to use you again and to recommend your to our friends."

A small folding table and two chairs are now available for sitting outside. The local bar remains closed during the month of September and this is now reflected in the property page (location tab) and in the document we send to clients.

The local bar remains closed during the month of September and this is now reflected in the property page (location tab) and in the document we send to clients.

The location and views from this property are stunning and if at all possible we will be booking another holiday here next year. We have also been very impressed with the service from Rustical and all the additional information provided. The only comment we have about the property is that the bedroom downstairs is far too small and claustrophobic. Fortunately we brought our own camp bed which we had with us for use later in our holiday so were able to use this upstairs. All in all though we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would go again."

Overall I was very happy with both the holiday property and the high level of service provided by rustical travel. All communications were polite, efficient and clear. Rustical travel provided a great service to enhance the holiday experience. The property itself was very charming, clean and in a wonderful location with the best view you could ask for. It made a great base for exploring the Picos and nearby coast. Re the property I would highlight 4 minor things for consideration. It would benefit from a little outside furniture (table and proper chairs) so that meals can be enjoyed overlooking the great views. Finally it would have been great to have had a couple of wine glasses. I will definately use rustical travel again and would also like to stay in the same property\area in the future too"

Rustical Update

A small folding table and two chairs are now available for sitting outside.

Beautiful site! Very cozy and comfortable. The views down the valley in the mornings were stunning beyond belief. We had a wonderful time just taking some of the farm roads for long walks out back.It was easy as pie to get to Majada de Espineres for an entertaining and breathtaking day hike. The people of the town of Anayo were pleasant and welcoming. One possible area to explore. Perhaps we're the only ones to ever have this problem, but our cell phone didn't work. This would have caused us considerable problem if it hadn't been for a kind bartender at La Bolera (Patri or Patricia) who spoke a bit of English and was willing to call the key person from the bar phone. Would it be so bad to have the key holders meet the clients at the property, and provide directions all the way there? As it turned out, the house was about 1 minute from La Bolera. It would have saved us a little worry. Otherwise, the stay was magnificent. Well done!"

We have just returned from our holiday in Asturias and wouyld like to say how impressed we were by the property we stayed at re its location and settng which was magical, being so peaceful and with such amazing views. The decor and layout were also just to our taste and the view from the living area meant that TV was not needed. If there were any issue with the proprty at all it was the lack of ventilation in the downstairs as there was no way to have an open window at night and we were advised to shut the outside doors. We had a superb time and enjoyed the walking especially the local walk from the property to the nearby hills which were in a Spanish walking guide we found at the house. We also went further afield to the Picos and the coast. We spent all our evenings at the house as unfortunately the village bar owners had decided to go on holiday for 3 weeks and the Japanese restaurant was also fully booked for the weeek. Those bendy roads were just too much of a risk at night to venture any further, but local shops provided all we needed for some magical meals, as we watched the twinkling street lights across the valley. All in all a wonderful holiday in a region we had never visited before and we hope to try another of your potperties in the future. Many thanks"

We want to let you know that we spent a wonderful time in Anayo, Asturias (1/8 - 10/8). Our holiday home was well equipped and had all the necessary things a home should have. But above all a splendid and stunning view over the Picos. This panorama and the quietness around Anayo were enough to stay at home and not to travel around. If you have an holiday address with a comparable view elsewhere, please let us know. We have two remarks and one suggestion for visitors in the future (we hope we will be one of them :-)). The remarks: 1. The exit for Colunga (N-632) is not Exit 344 but Exit 337; 2. The super market (Casa Vallin - friendly personel) is not on the right hand side but on the left hand side on the roundabout in the centre of the city. The suggestion: May be it's a good idea to put 'a guestbook' in the house where visitors can exchange useful practical information (places to visit, walks, ...) to future visitors. And a last tip, the Japanse restaurant Fuente de Lloba is so near the holiday property that you can go on foot (2 km - follow Robledo). You 've reached the place before you know it. So, thanks again for the preparation and organisation of our holiday. Kind regards"

Excellent communication from company. Excellent accommodation . We locked ourselves out however because we didn't realise that when you shut the door it locked automatically. This might be worth mentioning. We weren't sure what garden was ours and where we could turn round the car? Otherwise all fabulous and we had a lovely time thank you."

Just to say how much we enjoyed our stay in your little house. Belen was excellent - very professional and pleasant. Deserves commendation. We spent 7 weeks travelling around Spain this year and have done so for the last 8 years and Belen was definitely the best caretaker we have come across yet. Will in all probability stay with you next year - at the larger house in Anayo."

A stunning, romantic retreat ideal for a couple who want to get away from it all and enjoy the seclusion of surrounding Sueve hills. There's a bar/restaurant round the corner which sells essentials like milk etc otherwise it's an 11km drive to the nearest town, Infiesto. Highly recommend this beautiful retreat for couples who love hiking and nature."

The cottage was wonderful and the area was glorious, we will definitely be returning. Thank you very much for your assistance. Could you send our thanks to the caretaker. If possible could you satisfy my curiosity and tell me the history of the houses history, was it an old chapel or connected to the pilgrims in some way?
