This new addition to our Andalucia villas sums up what a lot of people ask us for in southern Spain: a countryside location not far from a pretty village, yet also close to a beach, very private, with a nice swimming pool – and the best possible Spanish weather.

The villa meets all these requirements. The facilities are very satisfactory, too, and if the style is somewhat modest, the location and value for money are terrific.

Neat, clean, summery, this is a very practical holiday home, with all the comforts and conveniences needed for your holidays in Andalucia. It comes priced for families or couples.

There’s plenty of space indoors and outdoors, all very well presented and maintained. The look and feel is of modernity: there aren’t the rustic elements we tend to like at Rustical Travel, but the elements of style are sometimes secondary and the property has so much going for it – and such a persuasive location – that we couldn’t resist it.

There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a main room comprising lounge, dining area and kitchen. The lay-out is typically Andalusian open-plan, to suit the sunny climate.

Once you step outside, the villa really comes into its own. The views range far and wide over the Frigiliana countryside, the foothills of the protected Natural Park of Almijara and out to the blue Mediterranean Sea. There’s another house but at a considerable distance, so the villa and its exterior spaces are very private to all intents and purposes.

The main terrace is very large and shaded for al fresco dining. Even the barbecue area is roofed so that the cook doesn’t get roasted as well. It’s all very nicely tiled and impeccably kept.

From here, a few steps lead conveniently down to the pool area. The mosaic-tiled swimming pool is extremely inviting: we really did feel like a dip when we were there, looking out over the pretty seaside area. It is so relaxing here.

The Axarquia location, not far from the boundaries of Granada province, is very rural; behind the house there are only mountains. This spot is known by the locals as “Four Ways” for the tracks and paths going to nearby villages: there’s lots to discover here. A particularly charming little village called Acebuchal is 1.5 km away, located in the depths of a green valley, where it is ranged around by impressive mountains. It’s a lovely place for walks and also for eating out, especially for non-vegetarians, as there is a good restaurant specializing in locally hunted game.

Another walk called Cuesta del Cielo takes you to up a mountain top where the views are superb: you even see the the snow on the distant Sierra Nevada.

The sea, of course, is always there in the background, and beaches at Nerja are just 8 km away. Less frequented and more natural beaches are only another 20 minutes’ drive. In addition to its popular beaches, Nerja has a remarkable cave complex well worth the visit. On certain nights of the year, orchestras play concerts in the caves.

Above all, the villa is a very quiet place, amidst scenery of pine forest together with exotic mango and avocado groves.

The principal local village of Frigiliana (see map) is home to a significant expatriate community, has several good bars and restaurants to choose from, as well as providing all the shopping and other services you might require.

All on one floor: open-plan living room / dining room/ kitchen; three bedrooms: two double-bedded (one with en suite shower/WC); one twin-bedded; full bathroom (bathtub and shower, WC).
Exterior: large parking space; terraces with barbecue area and steps down to pool area with sun terrace.

Notes:
-The swimming pool is maintained and open throughout the year, weather permitting
-We consider this house as suitable for families with children as terraces are protected, the pool has a shallow end and it is easily observed from the upper terrace. Please note, however, that the pool is not gated.
-There is some flexibility on which day of the week bookings start and finish
