It's hard to believe that a local shepherd once spent the summers here with his animals. Nowadays, the old building is transformed into a charming two-bedroomed holiday villa, yet it is still blessed with the very large original estate planted with olive and almond trees where goats used to roam. The setting – amid rolling hills – is gorgeous.

The restored house retains the original terracotta floor and beamed ceilings. Thick stone walls remind you of the age and solidity of the house and maintain excellent temperatures all year round.

All on one floor, the house is comfortable and guest-friendly. It is very well-equipped with dishwasher, satellite TV, central heating, good size beds – and both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Outside, there is plenty of terrace space and a porch from which to enjoy the delightful scenery and the mature gardens.

It is outdoors that one appreciates what a fabulous location this is. The grounds rest within an area that feels like genuine working farmland and the views are truly wonderful. Beginning at nearby hills, they encompass the high rocky mountains of the Sierra de Las Nieves and the forest-covered Montes de Malaga with the Mediterranean sea in the distance: you are looking south over a significant area of the province of Malaga.

With the added attraction of a beautiful large (8.5 metres) swimming pool, this holiday home is a perfect spot for relaxing outdoor living.

Nature lovers will be drawn here by the fact that the property is located on the southern slopes of El Torcal, an area of outstanding beauty, with endless options for walking and enjoying its unique, rugged scenery, lakes and rivers.

A significant extra offered at this property is the opportunity to make use of the facilities at an associated spa hotel little more than 5 minutes' drive away. By paying for what you wish, as if you were a hotel guest, you can play tennis, arrange horse riding and enjoy the spa baths and treatments. They sometimes have bicycles for hire, too, and there's a restaurant. The reception staff speak English and can help answer any questions you may have about the area.

Banks and restaurants are 8 minutes away in Villanueva de la Concepcion with simple shopping and a bar closer still at just 2 km in La Higuera.

The Antequera area is very centrally located within Andalusia, making day trips to Seville, Malaga, Granada and Cordoba all possible. Antequera town itself and its historical sights are a short 20-minute drive from the house.
