A nicely put-together, light-filled villa with a peaceful atmosphere awaits guests at this comfortably furnished and completely private villa near Colmenar in La Axarquia.

Secluded and enjoying views far and wide, the villa is well finished and fitted out with some with Moroccan-style touches and ample, south-facing windows that ensure day-long natural illumination. Outside, a solid, roofed verandah looks out over a picturesque landscape in which Maroma mountain serves as backdrop and the pretty village of Comares sits perched on the top of its own high hill.

The main room, with living, kitchen and dining areas, is both spacious and attractive. Sofas are comfortable, the kitchen well equipped with a particularly good cooker. French windows open to let air circulate and to erase any imaginary barrier between indoor and outdoor worlds in this warm, sunny region of Andalusia. Like the rest of the house, bedrooms are very neat and clean. Beds are large and good quality.

Holidays at this villa are easy-going thanks to good facilities, a pleasing design and the way different terraces and the pool area have been arranged. Outdoors, there is total privacy whether you taking in the view from the porch, the shaded area by the pool or the sun terrace a few steps down. The pool is irregular and not particularly large, but still a decent 5 by 5 metres.
 
For nature lovers, this particular villa is located in one of the richest, unspoiled spots we have come across in La Axarquia. Unlike the greater part of the region, which is dominated by olive and almond groves, the hill onto which the house backs is thickly forested and wild. Locals claim the hill holds onto water to give it green life. What it means for the house is a fresh, natural sensation. A walk to the top of the hill through the Mediterranean forest will reward you with a fully spectacular 360º panorama.

Considering the mild climate in the area and the number of hours of sun, winter is also a perfectly good season at this location. In case it gets cold at night, there is central heating and a wood burning stove.

The village of Colmenar 5 minutes away has most facilities and plenty of places to dine. Malaga and the Mediterranean coast are about 45 minutes away. Driving around visiting pretty villages like Comares is a popular option that can be combined with local treks.
