One of five high class, self catering apartments hidden amidst pine forests in an impressive mountain estate. It’s private, tranquil and the views reach to the Mediterranean. These are some of the most elegant holiday apartments in La Alpujarra. Amongst the first accommodation to be built locally for quality lets, they have a certain grandeur and offer a taste of the very best in Alpujarra architecture in a spectacular setting.
The estate is situated at an altitude of 1,500 metres and easily accessed from a maintained forestry track between the villages of Pitres and Capileira. Built entirely of local stone and incorporating a significant element of carpentry in chestnut work by the master craftsman owner, the individual apartments are distributed over an extensive area and look out onto mature gardens planted with flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns.
Beyond and all around the estate spread pine forests in designated Natural Parkland. The relaxing sound of spring water around the farmhouse underlines the tranquillity of this high mountain spot.
Each apartment is designed to enjoy a measure of privacy with its own patio or courtyard, and despite being part of a complex, each serves as a romantic retreat thanks to the way the property is laid out. In fact, the word “complex” hardly does justice to these superb country farmhouse apartments. They were designed by an expert on Moorish architecture and built by pioneers in quality restorations in La Alpujarra: you can expect the very best.
All apartments have the same proud, distinctive and refined style. Although varying a little in size, capacity and facilities, they are all very attractively presented and well finished.
AP17(5) s the largest and most complete of all the apartments. Beautifully beamed, tiled and fitted out and with direct access to gardens at ground level, it is one of the best choices for a high Alpujarra holiday.
Entrance is from a private furnished porch to a breakfast/dining room set for four. A spacious and stylish country kitchen then leads to the apartment’s highlight: the vast main room is that accounts for nearly half of the apartment’s 100 m², with sofas, armchairs, an open fireplace and a dining table that can seat eight people.
The apartment sleeps 4 people very comfortably in two en suite bedrooms.
WiFi internet and satellite TV come as standard extras here, and underfloor heating keeps the apartment warm during the cool or cold winter months, in addition to the log fire.
Entrance is via a furnished, shady porch area, opposite which summer sunbeds are placed in the lawned garden, with views through the trees.
The swimming pool area is situated to one side of the farmhouse, where it cannot disturb any of the guests. It is a large circular affair sitting neatly within a rugged landscape and backing onto pine forest. Although there are solar panels that begin to warm the water from early spring, in our opinion swims can be bracing in April and May, but after then it is a real treat. The sun is strong this high up and, especially in the hotter months, swims are very refreshing.
Pool towels are provided, so that's less packing (and weight if you're coming by plane). A hairdryer is also available on request.
There are sunloungers set around the pool and despite being shared, the pool area remains intimate and inviting. At the back of the pool, a short track connects to the famed European GR7 footpath which crosses the Alpujarras before continuing all the way to Greece.
A long walk or short drive along the forestry track brings you to Capileira, the most attractive of all the villages in the high Alpujarra in terms of location, facilities, atmosphere and architecture. The same road that leads down to the village goes up to Sierra Nevada National Park. There is excellent hiking along tracks and mule paths, with the summit of Mulhacén (3,481 m) very reachable outside winter months, when the snows are usually too deep.
Before you travel, we’ll send you a detailed Local information file with our recommendations for restaurants, tapas bars and activities, such as walks, horseriding, pottery courses and a visit to a high altitude Buddist centre founded by the Dalai Lama.
Car access is easiest from the other end of the forestry track, which joins the high Alpujarra road just short of Pitres: head of La Taha district and your most convenient shopping point. We'll send you a map with detailed directions for all these places.
Trips to Granada and the Alhambra palaces, or the beaches of the Costa Tropical, make for great days out if you want a change of scene, some cultural excitement, or a day by the Mediterranean.
