A terrific house and gardens, especially for families, well-organized and designed to make the most of five hectares of flat lawns and land which slopes gently down towards the hamlet. The swimming pool and house have views of the valley and forested hills. It's an easy drive from all three regional airports in Galicia and a good location to explore the Galicia coast and its rias.

The 4-bed villa has the stone walls of a traditional local construction, while furniture is rustic Provençal and fixtures and finishing more modern in style.

An entrance gate opens to a courtyard (you can park inside here if you wish), from which the accommodation leads off on three sides. To the left is a full kitchen with a large dining table; to the right an independent triple bedroom; straight ahead is the main building which comprises living room, an extra shower room, and three en suite double bedrooms.

The living room has plenty of sitting space and an open fireplace for log fires. The entire property also has oil-fired central heating. The three bedrooms in the main house are all double-bedded, each with its own bathroom (and TV) and something special to offer. One has pretty views, one is larger in boutique hotel style, and one has direct access to the gardens.

The garden areas, to the rear of the villa, are also accessed from the living room, from where they spread out magnificently. Here you will find an ancient hórreo, or stone grain store and, dotted around, a fountain and old stone basins – and, of course, the fantastic swimming pool which is just 20 metres from the house. It is fenced off in case small children are out playing on their own in the gardens. There are sunloungers, a barbecue and other garden furniture.

The kitchen/diner annexed to the main building. It is fully fitted out, except for a dishwasher, and there is a large dining table where eight people can sit comfortably. There are two cookers and a large fridge-freezer.

On the opposite side of the courtyard (also two metres from the living room door), is a spare or games room which can be converted to an extra bedroom with three single beds, if required. It has its own wood-burning stove, which operates with a closed (glass-fronted) door for safety. Note, however, that this room has no bathroom and guests would need to use the extra shower room/wc off the main living room.

The bedrooms have their own TV (Astra satellite channels) and there is another TV with DVD in the living room.

Two bicycles are available for getting to know the hamlet and surroundings. The Baragan river is nearby and good for rides or walks along its banks. The area in general is higher than the rest of the region, which makes views more satisfying. If you go up Outieiro de Mar hill, you will see the town of Vigo and the estuary.

If you want internet at some point during your holiday, the public library 2 km away in Pazos has free WiFi.

Vigo is only 30 minutes away and a boat trip in summer from here over to the fabulously unspoilt Cies islands, one of Spain's National Parks, is highly recommended.

For a cultural city trip, beautiful Santiago de Compostela is just over an hour away.

-The swimming pool will be open from 07 May - 30 September 2011, weather permitting.
-In high season 2012 the changeover day is Saturday.
-Although the property is particularly suitable for children, note that apart from the spare triple bedroom, bedrooms are double-bedded.
-The spare bedroom does not have its own WC and the occupants have to use the one in the main house.
-Firewood is not included in the rental price, but available at cost price from the owners.
