The area is one of the most desirable in Galicia, the Rias Baixas (lower estuaries) region benefitting from a milder climate than the northern coast, close to the picturesque town of Tui, Monte Aloia Natural Park and pretty beaches.

The cottage with its pillared porch, stone-built and finished with plenty of wood, is typically Galician. It’s an attractive place to spend a holiday in the natural setting of a hamlet with the comforts and facilities of a proper holiday home, together with a garden, barbecue and large swimming pool, backing onto woods.

The interior is smarter than it is rustic, very neatly presented and cared-for without being ostentatious. One enters via the main porch to a corridor off which lead two bedrooms and a living room with open fireplace and several large windows which fill the room with natural light and views of the garden. There is a door out to the lawn where garden furniture provides opportunities for taking in the countryside air over a quiet lunch or a barbecue.

A few steps go up to a small landing from which doors lead to an open-plan kitchen / dining room, a bathroom and a double bedroom. The kitchen also has a door leading outside.

Beyond the lawned garden, separated by a wall, is a fenced-off swimming pool with a well-sized pool area and sunloungers. There are a couple of houses nearby but there is plenty of privacy and the property is bordered more by woods than neighbours.

The rural location is perfect for those seeking a well put-together house in a quiet spot yet near clear attractions, such as the briefly named Tui, a delightful town not unlike a miniature version of Santiago de Compostela. Tui is 11 km away, similarly the Natural Park of Mont Aloia, where paths and streams criss-cross the pine forests and the mares are said to be made pregnant by the wind (the Galicians are Spain’s most superstitious inhabitants).

At 17 km is the port of La Guardia, whose fish restaurants are worth the trip alone. A great chance to sample Galicia seafood. La Guardia dock also has a fish auction at four in the morning: not that we expect you’ll be wanting to miss out on sleep to be there, but as a long-standing, traditional event it is of definite interest.

The border with Portugal is only 12 km away and the beaches are very pretty spots to spend a day, or perhaps several...
