The castle’s location is the Empurda region of north-east Spain, in Catalonia, roughly midway between the beautiful small city of Girona and Dali’s home town of Figueres, where his surrealist Museum is a major attraction. Sandy beaches and fishing villages on the Costa Brava coast are a 15-minute drive.

The castle, more palatial residence than fortress, has been in the same family since the 15th century and its Gothic-Renaissance character sets the scene for a suite of rooms and facilities that have been tastefully brought up to date to provide accommodation in grand style. We offer the castle in its entirety for private hire.

As befits its noble status, the palace has pride of place on the village square and its entrance by the church, under an archway to a garden patio. This interior courtyard is furnished with easy chairs, sunshade and equipped with is a pergola for shaded meals al fresco and a swimming pool for refreshing swims.

The ground floor holds magnificent banquet hall, an uplifting setting for the grandest of occasions under the original panelled ceiling. You might enjoy a hand of cards or backgammon in the games room, or play a game of pool. A spacious apartment on the same floor consists of a Master bedroom (the bed is King size), bathroom and sitting room. A summer kitchen with convenient access to the pool area has all the amenities you need to prepare simple meals.

The first floor represents a more intimate, if still rather grand environment. The sitting room is generously dimensioned and there are two dining rooms, the main one with seating for fourteen guests and another for eight. These are served by a large, fully equipped kitchen. On the same floor are three bedrooms, all en suite, including “Queen Joanna’s room,” where the Spanish queen stayed with her son, Fernando, in 1466. Later King Fernando of Spain would lead the reconquest of Spain from the Moors with his Queen Isabel and sponsor a sea captain by the name of Christopher Columbus on his voyage to the Americas. The Queen’s room has twin beds, dressing room and bathroom. Only its fireplace is no longer in use, for safety reasons.

The remainder of the accommodation, distributed over the upper two floors and attic of the castle, is detailed below. All bedrooms feature unique furnishings and décor inspired by the castle’s history. There is additional living space and even an extra kitchen on the top floor.

Facilities feature telephone, broadband internet and wifi, flat screen TV in most of the bedrooms, central heating and air conditioning in all but one of the bedrooms.

Each week’s rental includes a maximum 4 hours cleaning a day (excluding kitchens) from Monday to Friday, and extra services, from cleaning and catering to babysitting, chauffeur, guide, car or boat rental, can all be arranged on request.

The Emporda district, where the castle is situated, is an area of gentle, green plains with a backdrop of the snowcapped Pyrenees. Activities both cultural and sporting are available in a natural environment that extends from the medieval village where the castle stands to the coast and picture postcard seaside towns such as Sant Marti del Pescador, built solely from local stone, a local ordinance outlawing discordant building and apartment blocks. World class Catalonia restaurants here will satisfy the most discerning palates.

We are pleased to give full information at no charge to our clients on the possibilities for golf, horse riding (and ponies for children), hot air balloon rides, parachute jumps, karting, cycling routes, water parks, kayaks and yacht or speedboat hire. We also have recommendations for beaches, gastronomical experiences, open air markets and cultural visits.

Among the latter, highlights include the Dali Museum in Figueres (25 km), the ancient Jewish quarter of Girona (38 km), the Greco-Roman archeological site at Empuries (near beaches) and outstandingly preserved medieval villages such as Besalu.

The wooded, volcanic area of La Garrotxa is nearby and the French border just over 30 minutes away.

On four floors

First floor: spacious sitting room, dining room with round table seating 14 people; second dining room seating 8 people. Large kitchen. Three bedrooms: one Master bedroom with two individual beds, dressing room and en suite bathroom with Jacuzzi; one twin-bedded room with dressing room and en suite bathroom (shower); one twin-bedded room with dressing room and en suite bathroom (bathtub); additional WC.

Second floor: four bedrooms: one double-bedded with Queen size bed; one twin-bedded with en suite bathroom (shower); two twin-bedded rooms; two bathrooms (with bathtubs); utility room with washing machine and dryer.

Third floor: spacious twin-bedded room with en suite bathroom (tub); sitting room and kitchen; apartment with one twin-bedded room; bathroom (shower), dressing room, small living room and small room with a single bed, ideal for a child.

Notes:
- The booking deposit for this property is 30% and the balance must be paid 40 days before arrival. Special cancellation conditions, slightly more rigorous than Rustical Travel’s general conditions, also apply (details on request).

-A security deposit of 2,500 euros is required at the same time as the balance payment. This will be reimbursed in full with three weeks of the holiday finish date, subject to deductions for breakages and damage.

-The rental price includes a cleaning service of living areas, bedrooms and exterior spaces four hours per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Kitchens are not included in this service.

-Additional cleaning can be contracted at 15 € per hour.

-Catalan breakfasts with cold meat platters with juices, croissants etc. can be provided and served at 10 € per person.

-Additional services, babysitting, cooking etc can be arranged on request.

-For safety reasons, the castle fireplaces are no longer in use.

-In high season the castle is available for parties of up to 6 pax under request.
