The cottage is in a pretty area of Catalonia farmhouses distributed over green, wooded territory: a little under a mile from Saint Miquel de Campmajor.
 
Saint Miquel’s services are few but curious: a bar-restaurant where you can also buy basic provisions, two other good restaurants, a small but excellent cheese-maker’s and a company dedicated to outdoor pursuits, including mind-blowing hot-air balloon rides.

Just 6 km away is the area's main attraction, Banyoles lake, which is safe for bathing and has its own beach. By the lake there is also a large open-air swimming public pool.

Around the house is plenty of space to sit and relax and even more for nature lovers and children to explore: no less than the 30,000 m² of woods and rolling fields belong to the property. There is a barbecue area, sunloungers, and views to the Pyrenees at the rear. Sunsets are a real treat from here.
 
A few steps lead from the gardens up to the house, which is all on one floor. It is comfortable and spacious, furnishings and decoration kept simple and unfussy. A reception hall leads to an open-plan kitchen/living/dining area with open fireplace and French windows, whose balcony looks out onto dramatic scenery. There are two bedrooms, one double with a king-size bed and one twin-bedded.
 
Those planning to delve into the delightful and remarkable local scenery and landscapes of La Garrotxa will find the cottage strategically located in the heart of this area of extinguished volcanoes. The hiking is fantastic. Take the climb up to Puigsacalm, meander Sant Joan de las Abadesse, or go on a longer trek to Puig de Bassegoda with extraordinary sea and mountain views. Don´t miss Castellfollit de la Roca either: a narrow medieval village built on the cliffs left by volcanic lava flows thousands of years ago. One of Catalunya's high points.

And there’s more. The Camprodon and Ripolles area, at the foot of the Spanish Pyrenees, offer mountain splendour just 45 minutes away; and a little further on is the high altitude Vall de Nuria, which offers an unforgettable alpine experience.
 
Discovering the Vall d´en Bas and its little pretty villages and landscapes is another great draw. Medieval Besalu is regarded one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.
 
If you still have a day free, or the holiday seems incomplete without a trip to the sea, you won’t be disappointed either. At less than an hour’s drive are isolated beaches and the inspiring views along the Empuria Brava coast.

The villa is reached along a private track, a little bumpy in places but perfectly negotiable in a normal car.

-Access via 300-metre track, a little rough, but negotiable in a normal car.
