Espinaredo holds the accolade of one of the most charming villages of Spain, set amidst unforgettable scenery.

Located on one edge of the village, this property looks out onto formidable mountains that ring Espinaredo and the forests that hem it in.

Inside, the house is equipped to a high standard. Well-decorated rooms with furnishings made from local chestnut are pleasantly illuminated. Unlike many other holiday homes, The kitchen is especially well-equipped (including dishwasher), making meal preparation into a pleasure. To make the cook’s life even easier, there’s a double window via which you can serve directly onto the dining table.

The dining room follows round to the living room in an L-shape. It's a well-appointed space,  just right for relaxing evenings around the fireplace (no need to look for firewood, it’s provided).

You may end up tossing up for the two bedrooms on the first floor. They’re quite similar, each twin-bedded and sharing a bathroom, but one has an adjoining dressing room (always nice), while the other has access to a lovely terrace, with views that will make waking up in the morning a luxury.

The top floor is a spacious, open-plan loft with sloping ceilings. It consists in a sitting room and an en-suite double bedroom (not for tall people: it has low ceilings) with its own woodburning stove. In our opinion, it's quite a little love nest.

The property is located at the end of a sleepy street, even by Asturian standards, and children can play happily outside as if it was theirs. There's no garden as such, instead the countryside is almost on your doorstep. it's all very relaxed. And you normally park just round the corner from the house (parking spaces in rural areas are not designated!).  The neighbouring house is generally unoccupied, belonging a gentleman who occasionally comes back to Espinaredo to spend a quiet time in his old village.

It's a lovely old village, marvellous for children to explore, noted for its high number of listed grain storehouses (hórreos), preserved from the 17th century.

The natural splendour in which the village sits makes exploring irresistible. The owners know their area – called Piloña – very well and will be happy to point you in the right direction. They can tell you the way to Espinaredo’s recreational forests with its picnic areas, easy walks, cycle trails, challenging treks or simply how to get down from the house to the river in a couple of minutes. Not even the nearby Picos de Europa excel this part of Asturias for beauty. A library with plenty of information about the area is also made available to guests.

If trout-fishing is your game, there are plenty of fish in the local river and we'll do our best to arrange permission for you.

As for eating out and socializing in this region, well, it’s a real pleasure. Be prepared for substantial home-made meals at very reasonable prices, downed with plenty of local cider (for example) and good, honest (if somewhat reserved) Asturian folk to share it with. If you like cooking, fresh fish and meat are delivered to the village twice a week. A baker calls by daily.
