Rustical´s review                                                     See prices

This old house has been beautifully restored and decorated to create, quite simply, one of the best holiday homes we have seen in the Asturias region. Marta, the owner, devotes herself to making sure the house is in good order and looking just right: the result is a very successful country holiday home.

If you a nature lover, this is the place for you. The tended areas reach from a barbecue area and extensive flat lawn, down to fruit trees and gardens, and then wilder nature takes over. Don´t worry about not having a pool, the river is even more fun for a swim or a splash around.

It's not as utterly tranquil as other holiday homes we offer, but it's such a fine old house, superior in style and character to the common run of rural accommodation in the area. The house is positioned in a dip below the roadway,so anyone staying in the back bedroom, and perhaps the attic, who sleeps light may well note any traffic that happens to pass by in the night. There's also a train stop three minutes’ walk from the house, which means lovely rides through the natural setting to the sea, or on to the main towns, but also means that you will hear trains.

One of them is an old train with just a couple of wagons. There is something charismatic about this small, old-fashioned train trundling past (children love it), but if it's complete peace and quiet you need, we'll advise against this option and suggest alternatives.

On balance, we consider its qualities to be very persuasive. Inside the house, lamps placed here and there provide gentle lighting and the stone walls of the house create a rustic atmosphere that is complemented by antiques and quality furniture. The rooms are very comfortable with solid wooden floors and some original beamed ceilings, rugs and cushions providing colour and warmth. A gorgeous kitchen makes meal preparation that much more enjoyable.

The top floor has lots of character with its sloping wooden beams, slightly low at some points, a great spot for kids who like to feel on their adventurous own and enjoy some independence in their “attic”.

Even if you do not want to use the car, there are plenty of possibilities for activities starting from the house. Hop aboard a train or a bus (both less than 5 minutes’ walk from the house) to explore other areas of Asturias, or stroll to the pretty nearby village of Ceceda and enjoy a substantial meal in one of its two fine restaurants. You can explore treks around the area and visit the wonderful Redes Natural Park.

A 40-minute drive takes you to the Picos de Europa; if you like fishing villages and fancy some seafood, Lastres is only 30 minutes away and our guide to the 10 best beaches in Asturias will help plan your day. Fishing is another favourite: the river by the house is well-known for its trout.

Although it's the kind of house where one is quite happy just to stay in.
