The dignified 17th century residence is situated on the edge of the pretty hamlet of Anayo, along a lane that takes you into deep tranquillity and privacy, with just one other house nearby.
 
Some holiday homes are a joy to offer and this is one of them. It promises enjoyment both in and out of doors.

At the front of the house, a huge garden invites children young and old to run, play and have fun. A grand living room opens to a formidable terrace and a wooden balcony than runs along the front of the house: the views from both these terraces are of deep green fields and valleys, with the rocky, snow-capped Picos de Europa rising dramatically up to the sky. Beyond the private lawns and gardens are 5 acres used as pasture land, which also belongs to the house. The docile cows with relaxing music of their bells provide a picture that might easily be found on a Swiss alpine postcard.

 
The main room’s furnishings and decoration have a style to complement its impressive size. High ceilings, quality materials, judicious lighting and a thoughtful design create a variety of very pleasant sitting areas. The property has been brought up-to-date with taste as well as expense.
 
The rooms have character and a homely feel; they are spaces to sit back and admire the wooden flooring, beamed ceilings and the decoration, which includes some contemporary paintings. Little old windows have been restored here and there, adding to the charm to this historical building which even has its very own little chapel right next to it: an unrestored curiosity that harks back to another age, when the family made provision for its spiritual care.
 
The villa is situated on the Sierra del Sueve, a pretty mountain range that divides the sea inland Asturias. Its lower slopes spread out to evergreen fields, which culminate in a rocky coast line interspersed with unspoilt sandy beaches on the zesty Atlantic Ocean.
 
What a great base for holiday options! From walking in the Picos de Europa to swimming at gorgeous well cared-for beaches, enjoying local food and sampling different sorts of cider and cheese… there’s even a quality Japanese restaurant nearby.

In half an hour you can be at the coast. Lastres (see photo) is perfect for a day out, savouring the fresh seafood, good beaches and also has the nearby Jurassic Museum; or try little Tazones fishing village. Also highly recommended is a stroll around medieval Espinaredo and its natural environs.

A week flies by very fast here.

If you need to connect to Internet during your stay, the forward-thinking local townhall in Infiesto (11 km) provides free internet with computers provided at a municipal centre. There's also WiFi at certain café-bars if you bring a laptop.
